The comparison I would make would be the SS. You don’t reform the SS. You obliterate it and treat it as a lesson from history.
I know the general rule is "don't compare things to Nazism"
But listening to the ProPublica audio, where sobbing children are crying out for their parents and a Border Patrol agent jokes about it, I don't know what else you could possibly compare it to
It is a monstrously inhumane institution. It is pure, malignant evil.
Dude it's like.... Almost worse than actual Nazis. The Nazis took longer than A YEAR to start ripping children from their parents and putting them in camps.

it's super frustrating to hear a lot of american immigration rhetoric and arguments, even pro-, because a lot of people don't seem to realize just how far to the right it is
lotta unfamiliar dems thinking it just needs a little nudge to the left
Whereas the Trump administration is literally taking kids away from their parents, deporting the parents, then giving them an 800 number which doesn't work internationally, and telling them they'll try and find the kids.

I blew someone's fucking mind a few weeks ago by describing Obama as center left and I didn't even know that was controversial anymore.

there is a perception in the US that Obama was this radical progressive leftist
it's partially due to the fact that his first campaign presented him as way more left-leaning than he actually wound up being and partially because the media liked to talk about his admin as though it was (especially Fox News, which came just shy of saying he was a communist)
Compared to the rest of the world, the USA is biased towards the conservative side of the metric

I mean, I know a lot of stuff happened, but this E3 was anemic, right? Like, a lot of stuff we already knew about, a lot of stuff delayed to such an extent it may likely not come out until next E3, and then...conspicuous no-shows.
Don’t get me wrong, we got a some good things out of it, but...if I had to say what the biggest surprise was. I’d have to go with the Cyberpunk reveal, which was...great, sure, but also needed to happen. It wasn’t like we didn’t know that was in the works.
It was a very capable E3. Maybe I’m just getting old.
Depends on the conference. I feel like, even with leaks, Bethesda and Microsoft had tons of shit, both on short term and long term scales. Ubisoft was pretty good, but less surprises.
Sony and Nintendo were more focused on smaller amount of known titles. EA and Squeenix just had trash conferences.
Overall, I rate this E3 higher than last year, but I felt last year was probably the most dissapointing E3's since the generation began so it'd be hard to do worse than that.
EDIT: With speculation pinning the next generation launch in 2020, I have to wonder how weird E3 2019 is going to be, as next gen titles will likely still be under wraps and we'll be running out of announced current gen titles at Sony and Xbox (Nintendo will be fine)
Every E3 lives or dies on how much you care about the games that are shown and Nintendo and Sony, especially, by narrowing their focus, made it a much swingier year than usual. If you don't care about Smash or more than 1 of Sony's four major titles, it'd be a real rough year. If you're into those games though it's probably a pretty damn good one.
Nintendo's lessened the focus on E3 as a trade show for a very long time (more recently opting it as a platform for promotion of known titles and fostering community around some games, which isn't something I would have htought them capable of a few years ago) and other companies seem to be follow suit
It's still The Big Week but a lot of companies are starting to realize that they can control their own press cycles as much as they like
Even last year Nintendo went "Yo we got that new Metroid!" I feel like this year was surprisingly light from them. My most anticipated first party title they showed off this year is Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker.
I was into basically everything Sony showed and pretty much every other conference had a couple things I was interested in, so it was a pretty solid E3 for me, I’d say.
Nothing mind-blowing, but plenty of “I’m excited to play that.”
many of the big flashy years are typically predicated on companies showing things that are several years out
Oh yeah good point it's nearly time for the ff7 remake to be finished! I've been on total media blackout with regards to the ff7 remake since that annoucement! So I'm just assuming it's about ready based on normal dev timelines! I'm so excited for square enix to not disappoint me again!
I've been swinging back and forth between theorycrafting the new Smash metagame in my head and trying not to do the same thing for Fire Emblem, and I'm going to be playing Mario Party at least once a week until the end of time
I was definitely the target audience for what Nintendo brought to the table
Now that I have a gaming computer I kind of want to get Battlefield V.
Like, as long as the lack of historical accuracy won't bug you (I know you do reenactment, not of WW2 but other periods, but, some people have an easier or harder time of turning off the history part of their brain) it is shaping up to be a fun time.
Like, hopping on a server with folks from here and just goofing around should be a blast.

Yeah, I'd love to play (in no particular order)...
Overcooked 2
Last of Us 2 (still need to finish the first one)
Super Mario Party
Smash Bros. Ultimate
REmake 2
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Fire Emblem (never played one before)
Sekiro
Ghost of Tsushima
Gears Tactics
Ori 2
Some of those I already knew about, to varying degrees. But regardless, seeing new material for them was good. I enjoyed this E3.

I just really wanted to see something more substantial for Prime 4. It's to Nintendo's credit/curse that they wouldn't even show an unplayable video unless it would be emblematic of what the finished product would turn out to be.
I didn't really care that much for Red Dead Redemption 2 but seeing it would've been nice. Open world games (depending on your definition of open world) are less and less of a revelation, especially when they invariably have so much canned animations, and are still allowing stuff a character is equipped with to clip through their back/jacket/flowing scarf/etc. Hell, even the new God of War you can still die in a field of grass and the grass will poke through your torso.
Also, the lack of any sight of Mortal Kombat 11 stings.

Yes those were ACTUAL unaccompanied minors, though. They were not taken away from their parents. It was bad, but that is a very important distinction.

When MS announced BC back in 2015, it was totally unexpected and awesome.
Valkyria Chronicles 4
New Fire Emblem
Daemon X Machina
Sekiro
Tsushima
Death Stranding
Cyberpunk
Odyssey
Doom Eternal
Anthem
Maybe BFV
Like, easily more games than I will have time to play in the next 2 years.
