I've had Cyrus subbed warrior for a long time and it is actually pretty awesome. He doesn't hit super hard with the weapons but he's basically the all-purpose breaker. In addition to his elemental attacks he can hit all enemies with a sword and break anything weak to spears with that random multi-hit. Plus having the SP to use those abilities.
This makes the Veterans you can hire very strong early on.
For those of you who want to know about post game stuff I have 2 spoilers here. The first is entirely mechanical, but is good to know. The second is the actual spoilers but non-story spoilers.
You want to have all 8 party members leveled to at least 60 for the post game boss. ALL 8.
The final boss sequence is not a dungeon so much as a gauntlet. You fight 8 bosses in a row (you can heal in between) one from each chapter but harder, and then the final boss. this final fight is in 2 parts and the you use a different party of 4 in each party. Gotta gear accordingly.

I'm not going to buy a Switch for this. I'm not going to buy a Switch for this.
So having Cyrus locked into my party I started feeding him some nuts and now he's a damn wrecking ball at level 20. Just annihilating everything with the double hit spells.
Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.
I am still exploring around, trying to find the subclass shrines. I'm in the Flatlands right now, and I just wandered into a dungeon called
The Hollow Throne
Which I was hoping was a Shrine.
My experience with this place, plus a question (side dungeon spoilers)
The enemies in here were brutal. The level requirement is posted as 25. My party is about 22, and thus far I haven't really had any trouble with playing a bit over my head. But hoooo boy. The Lightning Elementals in here were literally one shotting my party. I learned that they were an instant Flee.
Also other enemies were really mean, and I ended up fleeing from quite a few fights that went south pretty bad. I ended up equipping Cyrus's encounter reduction passive, just so I could explore around a bit.
I walked up some stairs and triggered a warning dialog box. I forget the exact wording, but it was paraphrased to something like "You are too weak for this fight, do you wish to turn back." I Chose "No" and it instantly put me in combat with this big boss dude with 30k health, which is WAY more than I've ever fought before.
And he was a real sonofabitch.
I whittled him down though, and was triumphant. It took a long time, and he nearly wiped my party at one point. H'aanit survived with 17 HP and everyone else was dead.
And anyway, the boss is dead and at the top of his stairs was a chest that had a Moonblade sword in it. Of which I already have 1 Moonblade that I believe I stole from somebody in a Chapter 1 town somewhere.
And that seems to have been my only prize.
What am I missing?
There was a throne at the top of the stairs but I was unable to interact with it. I ran around a bit, but couldn't find anything else in there. Afraid of losing my boss kill progress and dying to trash mobs, I ported out. But I will definitely go back in there if I missed a valuable treasure somewhere.
It just seems to me that that was a whole lot of effort for nearly nothing of note. I got a duplicate sword. Woo.

Yeah, a lot of the side dungeons are usually a bit higher level than their counterpart area and they have an optional boss with usually an item chest or something at the end. Nothing crazy exciting.
If you run across a side dungeon with no boss fight at the end but it looks like there should be one? Go check out the nearest town and talk to everyone and come back

It's the only game I own for the Wii and I have about six hours of total time played and I haven't made it out of the starting town because I like beating up rabbits.
I really wish they'd port it to Switch. Being a fairly avid hater of the Wii, due to their extreme reliance on gimmicky motion controls, I missed out on that game. Also missed out on Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 3, and probably a few other gems.

Pretty much all of those world dungeons are quest destinations. Some are empty until you have the quest, though some you can fight the bosses before you even pick up the quest. (killing them completes it)
Shrines are pretty obviously named(Shrine of the <class type>) and have a distinct map icon different from regular dungeons. You'll know it when you come across your first one.

Ha, so Eye for an Eye can trigger off of each hit of a multi-hit attack. So if some jokester decides to shoot a 4-hit Flurry at me, they could be staring down the barrel of four melee retaliations.

I haven't finished Ophilia's intro yet, but I'm finding a lot of interesting parallels between her story and Primrose's, to go along with the way Dancer and Cleric have just about perfectly mirrored roles and abilities.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
Luckily Theiron was my starting dude so in my canon it totally works.
'Just a solitary thief, ah SHIT these orbs are gonna be a pain in the ass, better dupe a buncha rubes to help me get 'em, ah SHIT these rubes are pretty cool and now history is repeating itseeeelf'
The Therion thing doesn't bother me too much because the game already pretends like none of the other characters even exist for the individual stories, so meh
It is admittedly pretty ironic considering Therion is a lone wolf-type and CLEARLY has trust issues, though.
I dunno, I mean, obviously there's some issues when you think about these characters and their individual motivations as well as their supposed motivations for working together (and that it's, er, somewhat flimsy in that regard), not to even mention obvious conflicting moralities (why would someone like Tressa work with a thief? Or with someone who's ENTIRE REASON FOR BEING is to murder 3 people???)
But I can overlook it because it's very obviously done for gameplay reasons and not story reasons. To be honest, I can't possibly think of how that would even work to begin with. How do you get these 8 characters all in different parts of the world with their own motivations and driving factors to suddenly group up and start working together?
You kinda don't.
But because it's a Video James, you need a full party, and there's certain liberties that need to be taken to make things make sense mechanically/game-wise at the expense of the story. SHRUG.
I liked one conversation between Tressa and Therion during one of her chapters.
She needs to get a map from a vendor. And Therion actually straight up asks "Do you want me to just steal it for you?". She obviously refuses, citing merchant honor or something, to which Therion responds "Phh, whatever then".

So two interesting discoveries around Saints Bridge. Fairly minor side quest and equipment spoilers.
One was being able to preemptively be able to finish a quest. Guy on the road to Saintsbridge was threatening people for money, I set Linde on him and a priest shows up afterwards who I suppose was suppose to give me the quest prior to that.
The other was once I actually got to Saintsbridge that same priest was holding the "Forbidden staff". Completely unstealable but for the sum of 75k I was able to buy it and that thing is incredible.

About that weapon:
There are a bunch of forbidden weapons scattered around, each of which has a different drawback. I can think of at least two off of the top of my head, but I know there are others:
One of them that I'm using now is a dagger that gives decent attack and ridiculously high elemental attack, at the cost of making fire and darkness attacks weaker. Another is a bow that has reasonably high attack and elemental attack, but raises the encounter rate.

The dagger's drawback doesn't sound like much of an issue if you're a multi-school caster. You can still use fire to break fire-weak stuff and then something else to nuke it.
For example to gain entrance to the orphanage I had to beat up the person running it. Once inside I stole a toy and a glass marble from the orphans inside. Net profit? About $25.

About that weapon:
It does seem like over you overheal once you can’t be overheated again until your below your actual health though. Still very useful.
For example to gain entrance to the orphanage I had to beat up the person running it. Once inside I stole a toy and a glass marble from the orphans inside. Net profit? About $25.
I'm fairly sure there's no wrong choice.
One thing that is really striking is the perspective/camera position and that there really isn’t a world map that is used for anything but fast travel
The perspective gives this sense of travel/journey since you can never see fat beyond where you are, which seems very Buddhist
I mention this because the title, despite being terrible, seems like a mistranslation if the Eightfold Path
