I'm starting chapter 5 now. I've only been able to upgrade one weapon attribute per character. It appears that each upgrade increases the cost of the other upgrades on that tier. If I assume that going to continue, the game better start dropping a lot more resources and money. Hoping this is just an early game restriction before the flood gates open.
Yes and no. Extra resources and cash are easy to get... if you don't mind grinding skirmishes ad nauseam. They do pick up in drop rate but it doesn't feel like enough.
The real limiting factors are the class/weapon level upgrade mats, though.
Been splitting my time with Elden Ring. (Mostly Elden Ring. Like 89% / 11% Elden Ring to Triangle). So I'm not very far.
I officially beat the demo this morning and migrated my save over to my game cartridge. Save file stats say the demo took me 6 hours.
Like someone else on the previous page said, I will echo the sentiment that I am enjoying the slow burn build-up. The game is definitely taking its time in putting the factions and major players into place. I can feel the metaphorical powder keg becoming more unstable, even in the demo, and I'm eagerly anticipating the explosion. I don't mind the slow pace. I'm finding myself invested in the characters. Especially Seranoa and Frederika. And I'm 100% invested in their relationship.
I had a recent cutscene where the villain was being villainous, but the cool thing was that he has plans that, in his eyes and perhaps for real, would benefit the people of the realm. I like it when the situation may be more complicated than it seems, and characters are realistically the heroes of their own story.
I think so far, honestly, the thing I'm liking best about the story is that they are very clearly making the effort to paint all 3 nations as sympathetic. All of them are different, and all of them have their own cultural oddities, but none of them are outright "the evil empire."

I didn't visit Hyzante, and so for me about halfway through the game I think, I know nearly nothing about Hyzante. It's kind of odd. Feels like I went the unintended route.
I specifically wanted to go to Hyzante. Mild spoilers for early game stuff. Chapters 1-3. Demo stuff.
The main reason I wanted to go to Hyzante was because Frederika is from Aesfrost. It seems like good relations with them are already falling into place. The entire reason for the arranged marriage was to strengthen the bond between Aesfrost and Glenbrook. Since the marriage is already intending to strengthen that bond, I figured the wiser course of action would be to go to Hyzante, since there isn't anything explicitly in place to strengthen that bond.
My other reasons include my interest in the Rosellan people. As I said previously, I am invested in the story of Seranoa and Frederika, and so naturally I was drawn to the story where her people and her ancestral home are from.
I was also curious about their holy-state society and their supposed healing power. So I had some curiosities and other reasons to go there as well.
Truth be told, the game did not give me much reason to want to visit Aesfrost at all. Nothing in the lore or first two chapters of the game made me want to go there and see what's up. Not like it did with Hyzante.

That sort of sucks. I like maxing out characters. Oh well, guess I'll treat it like the first Fire Emblem game on the GBA and make a small group of killers and focus on different folks the next time around.

I've been fine spreading the love around. Like, if someone gets a class upgrade they move to the back of the line for a weapon upgrade and vice versa. Other than a small handful of niche players* I like everyone I can use so rotating them based on the needs of the scenario isn't much of a hardship.
*Can't stand Lionel, Jens doesn't bring much to the table (unless he really does, as above), and Medicia is too expensive to properly utilize although I like her gimmick a lot. The juggler is similarly too expensive for her primary use but I really like her other main trick so she sees a lot of skirmish action.

Then 10 is the magic number , some fights will allow more but I think 99% of the time you are allowed 10 unit at minimum.

I rotate characters often, especially in skirmishes, because EXP gains rise and fall for a given character based on how far they are from the stage's recommended level. If someone is 2+ levels behind, it's trivial to get them up to speed.
Once you're 2+ past recommendation, exp drops to 1 or 2 points per action.
I got to the second vote in Ch.8, and again it looks like it'll stonewall me into a path. I guess I gave my Serenoa the convictions of a wet noodle. Luckily though it's the path I want so I'm fine with it. That being said, I decided to do some game theory fiddling and experimentation. 'Cause I'm fuckin' weird like that. No real story spoilers, just spoilered for the ramblings of a lunatic.
I made a fresh save without doing a thing. They don't let you walk around the town for this vote, but there are 2 soldiers with !'s that'll give you conviction dialog choices. As for the vote, Frederica and Erador want A, Anna and Hughette want B, and Benedict and Geela are undecided. I personally would want B.
-I first talk to everybody. The text indicates I can fairly reasonably persuade everyone for B, but for A everybody says "I'd have better luck talking to a stone wall" which is apparently game speak saying you'll never convince them. It even says this for Geela and Benedict, which we'll get into in a sec.
-I talk to the guards and pick the dialog I like. I talked to everybody again, and this time it says I'll have a hard time convincing Geela of A. So the conviction points from the dialog had an effect! In reloading and experimenting, indeed choosing some branches pushes her over the edge, and others don't. Only Geela is affected, everybody else stays at stone wall status. Which makes sense that everybody has different thresholds. Erador really does not want to do A for example.
-I talk to everybody and to experiment, I try to convince everybody for A as best I can. I only succeed with Geela, which ties the vote. It said she'd be difficult but possible, and it was possible.
-For shits and giggles, I reload the fresh save where I've talked to nobody. Again, both Geela and Benedict for A is a stone wall, I can reasonably persuade both for B. I don't persuade anybody or talk to anybody for conviction points, I just go right for the vote. Benedict votes for B. Geela... votes for A.
-So on a fundamental level, nothing I do actually matters in this specific instance. I assumed Geela would go for B based on the persuasion difficulty checks, but she doesn't. I had heard some rumors that undecided people will tend to vote based on your conviction stats, which in this case would be for B, but clearly not in this case. Could be something far simpler as the Undecided tag is smoke and mirrors and they'll always vote one way unless persuaded otherwise. I just stumbled into a funny situation where I don't have to waste effort trying to persuade Geela, it'll always be a tie vote. And FYI in a tie, Seranoa mans up and acts like a lord and tells them what they're doing, IE you just get to pick yourself.
To wrap it up, this would be my armchair suggestion for anybody worried about voting and wanting to hopefully get the path they want. Don't do or talk to anybody before you make a fresh save. Talk to your council and take note if they can be persuaded ("a stone wall" means nothing you do will work). Maybe even just do the vote to see what the undecided actually pick. Then go around and talk to all the !'s available and check everybody agian. You might be able to game the system and reach a conviction threshold you need to persuade someone.
Or really... again you're probably better off just going with wherever the story takes you. Especially since apparently the plot isn't actually all that long. But some paths feel like they really suck. Actual spoilers for Ch.8 now.
Giving up Roland is really starting to feel like the bad/sad path. I'm assuming there was no way to save Landroi, unless it was something like defeating him last, which... wasn't realistically happening. As for the actual A and B choices, it's to either side with Aesfrost against... that bald merchant guy, or side with him against Aesfrost. Despite all that gaming the system above, the general tone seems to be "We really don't wanna side with Aesfrost"... and now I'm actually tempted to pick it. If this is going to be the sad path, maybe I should just go all-in.

Has anyone figured out when auto and quick save trigger?
Was just fighting a skirmish, and the last enemy on the map ate some blue spoils.
In the past loading a quick save put me backwards a few turns, but this time the soldier was standing over the spoils, ruining everything, so I shut off the game. When I reloaded, my last save was 60 minutes prior, and I lost a ton of materials I had grinded.
What I don't understand is that when I'm doing the "mental battles" that at the end of those battles, it says "Serenoa's convictions have been strengthened". I don't understand why that would be? Its just a practice battle with no choices attached to it?

All kinds of things influence conviction . Selling items buying items scouring for items in exploration etc
Since mental battles are essentially training battles, I assume you're getting utility points or something for taking the time to train your team. Or something. I've already forgotten what the 3 convictions are since they are needlessly hidden. I know they make them visible for NG+, but that doesn't help me during my first playthrough. I said it before, the system is needlessly obfuscated. If they don't want you to stress about your decisions, they shouldn't show the popups at all. Showing a popup, but not telling me what changed, is worse than not telling me anything at all.

Some people have hacked into the game and figured out the exact numbers of what actions gives you which points.
If I remember right, spending over 10,000 gold gives you freedom points.
fighting an easy battle (where you are over-leveled) gives you freedom points, and fighting an average or hard battle give you points for the other convictions (I forget which).
Wonder if the checks simply are for having at least a certain number of LUM points or if it blocks you if you have too many of a certain LUM, for example you must have at least 20 Liberty and less than 10 Morality in order to do X or recruit Y.

IIRC my vote for that was 4-2 in favor of A, swaying both undecideds. I think I've run the gamut in results, 7-0ing the first (mostly meaningless) vote and a rare 6-1 a couple of votes after the one here. I've had two 4-3s, one in my favor and the other not, and my most recent was 5-2. I've only ever "lost" the one (although again in ch9 I would have largely accepted either outcome).
Morality is associated with honorable and just choices
Liberty is associated with forthright and free-spirited choices
Utility is associated with logical and self-preserving choices
What i wonder is if it is just adding points to one of these when it strengthens or do some go up and others go down? i.e. should i be trying to mix and match answers to remain in the middle or can i safely do several different things to keep clearing thresholds.
Also, here are the what they will say, based on the chances of being persuaded
6- I'd have better luck talking to a stone wall.
5- This one will not easily be swayed
4- They will listen at the very least
3- Negotiation may yet prove fruitful
2- It may take effort, but they can be swayed
1- This one could listen to reason
Not to steer things in a political direction but it's interesting how the three convictions match some models of a political triangle, at least in spirit.
Liberty = Individualism, the freedom to pursue individual desires
Morality = Communism, the goal to reduce harm and create the greatest good for everyone
Utility = Absolutism, ruling in a practical sense, whatever it takes to gain and maintain power
Each of these can be seen to reject their opposites.
Liberty could mean sacrificing Morality, i.e. falling into selfish hedonism, and is absolutely opposed to Utility's control over the lives of the people.
Morality sacrifices some Liberty as what is good for the free individual might not be the greatest good for the collective, and having one man or group at the top via Utility seems to run counter to discovering and maintaining the collective good.
Utility means some will have less Liberty under the protection of the state, and what is mandated by the leader may be practical but can run counter to common Morality.
Additionally, the three convictions match up with the three kingdoms.
Aesfrost is Liberty, their society allows anyone to succeed if they show personal merit
Hyzanthe is Morality, they are ruled by religion and dictating what is best for all
Glenbrook is Utility, they are a traditional kingdom with a standard king/lords/subjects structure
I'm not very far in (ch. 5?) and I've only visited Hyzanthe but I'm happy that:
They've so far played it very "realistically" in that there are good and bad in both Hyzanthe and Glenbrook. To simplify a bit:
Hyzanthe:
Good -- Low to no poverty in the general populace, general happy with little crime. Seems to generally be able to pursue what career you want
Bad -- They have slaves (the Roselles), and strong control over what you do in that career, strong repercussions of going outside the mold
Glenbrook:
Good -- Pretty nice living conditions, if you have a "good lord"
Bad -- Rigid hierarchy, great if you're born a lord, can't do as much as a peasant/commoner, bites if you have a bad lord
I haven't had any interaction with the Aesfrosti except for Jaime and Cersei Lannister, Dragan, and the Mad King. All of which just seem to be using their freedom for eeeeeevil. I hope if I visited Aesfrost there would be some good along with the bad?

I visited Aesfrost.
Everyone there gets to choose to pursue whatever they are most interested in, or whatever they have a knack for. You distinguish yourself through prowess, so a good researcher might be able to work hard and become Head of Science. Their defining trait is freedom for the populace. They also have a massive library and archives, and a focus on accumulating knowledge.
To be honest I can't think of anything on the level of slavery as a downside. I suppose you could call their major downside the events of the main plot.
While you are there you deal with a matter of salt smuggling. The people are suffering due to a lack of salt, due to Hyzante's high taxes, so there is crime.

Wow, I found a non-standard Game Over. Wasn't expecting that, but at least it lets you know to reload your autosave to try again.
Oh hey you that happened to me too , took me quite a bit to find what I needed too.
The choice that followed that was interesting. A bit too easy to steer in your direction, perhaps, but some interesting options.
And the choice to commit another goddamned war crime. Benedict, you have no chill. He was the only one I couldn't sway.
Alas, I have to turn in for the night so I'll have to wait for tomorrow to see this play out...
I know you don’t like that character but at the end I kinda started seeing his logic and reasoning. I actually started choose their side at the end . Was the only logical thing I could agree to, I’m interested in how it goes for you since it sounds we made similar choices .

I like him a lot outside of the voting chamber. He's got a good mind; it's just not always tethered to any compassion.

In terms of materials, the lesson I just recently learned (circa chapter 3/4) is that when they say a merchant might have rare items, that goes for their upgrade materials as well-- your merchant in the Encampment doesn't seem to restock much (if at all), so if you see Iron, Stone, Timber, or Fiber for sale somewhere other than home, it can be worthwhile to buy as much as you can. Coin is comparatively easier to get in quantity.

Welp, was dealt my 3rd Game Over tonight. Gonna have to think about this one before running it back. Multiple waves of reinforcements is a dirty trick.
Also, the fact that the plan I voted for got fucked up through no input of my own didn't help.
You have covert operatives, Serenoa; fucking use them. There was absolutely no reason to do the recon yourself.

Next time I'll just drown the assholes.
So I have advice for that level if you want it just check the spoiler . What I will warn you is that the fight after that was the hardest in the game for me .
As long as you don’t board the boat the brother and his two healers will not engage in the fight , so what I did was rush the middle where the sister spawned kill her and wait on her reinforcements. After the second wave no more will come the shield guys are slow and will slowly waddle toward you so you can kill them all before engaging the boss himself . The big thing is to thin out the middle as fast as you can that way you can focus on the sister and her reinforcements .
I get the feeling somebody should maybe have looked over the storyline a couple more times. In this game where the story branches and merges all the time, some of the side stories seem to get a little confused about what has actually happened and what hasn't.

I noticed that, although I don't think it's 100% accurate. He definitely gets shots in if the opportunity presents itself but he also spends time charging up. I guess I just hot too close. Also, I wasn't expecting the reinforcements so I was out of position when they showed up and honestly probably made some unit selection mistakes expecting more of a siege than a ground battle.

It was kind of funny, I had played the demo a long time so no doubt had earned a lot of conviction points, so the moment side stories were unlocked I had 6 new recruits waiting for me. But this was the moment things start snowballing into a bigger plot, not really the thick of it, so some of the characters joining are like "bah, this awful WAR, so many good people are suffering" and I'm like well this seems a bit premature.
I just got done with chapter 7 (spoilers for a specific branch)
Two things have bugged me:
1) in defense of wolffort, there was a comment about how I burned the town, when I specifically only used the trap in the market area where I cleared the stalls, and didn't burn any houses. Kinda bummed I didn't seem to get any credit for keeping all the houses intact.
2) With Lord Symon (why the weird pronunciation?) On his presumed deathbed, Benedict saying the healers are doing what they can. Gee wouldn't it be nice if, I dunno, LOOK THERE'S A HEALER I PICKED UP FROM THE PLACE WHERE THEY ARE FAMOUS FOR HEALING!!! Mayhap we could at least ask him for some help?

Like someone else on the previous page said, I will echo the sentiment that I am enjoying the slow burn build-up. The game is definitely taking its time in putting the factions and major players into place. I can feel the metaphorical powder keg becoming more unstable, even in the demo, and I'm eagerly anticipating the explosion. I don't mind the slow pace. I'm finding myself invested in the characters. Especially Seranoa and Frederika. And I'm 100% invested in their relationship.
I didn't visit Hyzante, and so for me about halfway through the game I think, I know nearly nothing about Hyzante. It's kind of odd. Feels like I went the unintended route.

Once you're 2+ past recommendation, exp drops to 1 or 2 points per action.
All kinds of things influence conviction . Selling items buying items scouring for items in exploration etc

5- This one will not easily be swayed
4- They will listen at the very least
3- Negotiation may yet prove fruitful
2- It may take effort, but they can be swayed
1- This one could listen to reason

Each of these can be seen to reject their opposites.
Additionally, the three convictions match up with the three kingdoms.
To be honest I can't think of anything on the level of slavery as a downside. I suppose you could call their major downside the events of the main plot.
While you are there you deal with a matter of salt smuggling. The people are suffering due to a lack of salt, due to Hyzante's high taxes, so there is crime.

That's the spirit. Our magic is different! Our fire will only melt their armour into their flesh and bones! You'll be spared. Anyone who says otherwise is spreading FAKE NEWS.
Oh hey you that happened to me too , took me quite a bit to find what I needed too.
The choice that followed that was interesting. A bit too easy to steer in your direction, perhaps, but some interesting options.

Also, the fact that the plan I voted for got fucked up through no input of my own didn't help.
AC:NH Chris from Glosta SW-5173-3598-2899 DA-4749-1014-4697
So I have advice for that level if you want it just check the spoiler . What I will warn you is that the fight after that was the hardest in the game for me .
