Thunderstorms possible in SoCal tonight through tomorrow night. So long as we get rain that will be great, but if they're mostly dry with lot of thunder and lightning it could mean fire.

The highs I don't care about, it's gonna be hot af during the day for the next 6-7 months; it's the lows that get me. Like, around here if it only barely hits 73F/22C at ~5am, the coldest part of the 24h cycle, that sucks. It means we can't get away from it, no matter what. Especially when the humidity jacks the "feels like" back up to 80F/27C.

so instead of normal monsoon season where it's sunny then 30 minutes later the sky is opening up and dumping buckets for 30ish minutes and then another 30 minutes later it's sunny again
starting yesterday the sky opened up with buckets as per normal, but then the clouds never went away and we've had on and off again light showers since then.

I haven't been to Portland since 2009, but if I remember the humidity in that area, an actual temperate of 116 there would have a heat index in the low 140s, right?
So, how many people died that day? Because that's well past heat stroke territory.

As the temperature goes up, the air’s ability to hold moisture also goes up, reducing the relative humidity. I doubt the as-experienced temperature was quite that high, though I’m sure it did kill people.

There were deaths in Seattle during the heat dome last year, but the surprise impact was bird deaths, as rooftops got so hot that birds started just jumping off and falling to the ground

Oh god, no. It's 105 outside and a tiny popup storm is pouring down rain on my neighborhood in particular for the next ten minutes. It's gonna feel like the inside of a jock strap out there when the sun comes back out.
Didn't they just have a "1000 year flood" last year?

Every time we talk about "1000 year weather" it needs to be asterisked with "during recorded history."
From geological records, we know that earth's weather use to be fucking buckwild.

That just happened to me, it was hot as balls when I went in to get a haircut. When I came out it was wet everywhere from a brief deluge but somehow even hotter and now also humid.
Texas' terrible power grid everyone hates is possibly going to have problems meeting the air conditioning load demand in the hot weather over the next few days, do what you can to prepare
Breaking: ERCOT has issued an alert for possible rolling blackouts Monday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. "A projected reserve capacity shortage with no market solution available." Additionally, ERCOT has issued a call for energy conservation Monday.

My home office here in Austin is probably 84, could still rise to 86, and I'm getting mad that my work office may(it was last Thursday) be freezing cold. I'm going to have to ask if they are at least cranking the temp way up in the face of an ERCOT request

And one day it probably will be again
Looks like we've got the bastard on the run. Keep it up and it'll all be over by Christmas.
I get happier. until after the autumnal equinox.
I work early mornings.
The sooner the sun can fuck right the hell off so it's easier for me to sleep, the better.

We're at 98f here in the valley. It was rainy and 60s last week! Better than last year though. Still a lot of moisture in the soil and not as hot.

Good day to discover the wet bulb temp limit may actually be lower than thought.
This is extremely hateful and I wish to speak to a manager.
