If the opposite was true does that mean wizard of oz was a olden time version of signs

it has probably my favorite visual joke in any of his movies I've seen

say what you will about Shyamalan, he's got an eye for a good sight gag

(this is why I thought he was actually a pretty good choice for the TLA movie but then uh...well I don't think we need to say anything more about that, do we)

Yeah, it's actually a really well-paced movie in that regard. We get some spooks, we get some humor, we get some character drama, we get back to the spooks. And none of it breaks the tone or atmosphere!

It's still, to this day, completely stunning to me that the guy who directed Signs and Unbreakable went on to direct Last Airbender and After Earth

My favorite signs theory is that it's about demons, not aliens. Also the "it's behind" scene spooked me pretty good.

Also good for M. Knight for not plastering the monster over all the preview stuff like every scarry movie does these days.

"it's behind" is simultaneously the best and worst scene. amazingly tense and scary even though you're expecting to be scared, but then the kid suddenly blerts out a phrase in english for no reason except to give you more tension

I’m glad I’m not the only one who liked Signs, and it really is a pretty funny movie

My favorite joke being the reverend’s attempt at sounding threatening when his brother insists he use swear words to scare away what they think are human intruders and all he can muster is something like:

    “Ahh I’m losing my mind!”

    I could relate

the most irritating thing about signs was how in the month after it came out, people couldn't stop themselves from nitpicking, all like "durr hurr how come the aliens turned on exterior lights on their stealth ships at night"

how about you tell me why that matters first

The only thing I feel is truly worthy of nitpicking in Signs is the water thing.

They're wrecked by liquid water being flung on them, but all the water vapor in the air doesn't bother them at all?

I thought the first half of signs was one of the tensest SF-horror films I'd ever seen, but it lost me when it went all-in on the parable because I guess I don't have a lot of time for heavy-handed religious metaphors jamming up my screen.

I was fine with the water thing as I watching it - I could accept the aliens as, like mythical, fairy-tale-esque creatures

I was less fine with the movie revealing itself to be a Christian tract

Well shit. I guess I need to watch Split now. I didn’t pay it much attention when it was out because I had my fill of “villain with multiple personalities” movies back in the ‘00s, plus Shyamalan had been on a downward spiral for a while.

For the parable to work it needed to be only their house that was invaded. It’s unworkable really otherwise.

I find it odd I spent a good 30 minutes arguing with several people in general chat in wow about the aliens movies and how you could cherry pick the dark horse comics of the 90's for better story ideas to reboot it
Aliens Labyrinth in a way is a better way to tie in the story of Prometheus and Aliens films together.

I really have not read any of the aliens comics since the late 90's just that I found out they rebooted various stories pre Prometheus and post.

What in the heck the Apocalypse Now DVD set I got sent from Netflix makes no sense.

It’s two DVDs. As far as I can tell part 1 of both the original and the Redux are on disc 1, and part 2 of both are on disc 2. So no matter which one you watch you have to switch DVDs halfway through.

    This makes no sense!

Pretty close for me, but I'd put Unbreakable higher, and switch The Happening with The Village.

He's made some real dumpster fires, but on balance I'd say his average isn't bad. It's just been rough because it's been more crap that hits in the last 10 years.
