1) solid hook
2) approachable, not too bloody, could bring in non-genre fans on word of mouth
3) no real competition for 4 weeks until infinity war dropped
#4: people were ready for an actual good reason to love John Krasinski again
There’s a whole generation where The Office was their first favorite show, and he’s been in a bunch of garbage since then, but now this was something credible
Based on Patrick Dewitt's acclaimed novel of the same name, follows two brothers - Eli and Charlie Sisters - who are hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss. The story, a genre-hybrid with comedic elements, takes place in Oregon in 1851. The film is Jacques Audiard's follow-up to his Palme D'Or Winning DHEEPAN, which premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, John C. Reilly, Jake Gyllenhaal, Riz Ahmed
I'm always down for more John C Reilly. I can't think of a single thing he's bad in. He's even great on Tim and Eric.
I can't stop laughing at this, it's like a parody played straight
Like they have to know what they're doing with lines like "You can take Little Italy out of the girl, but you can't take the girl out of Little Italy"
But
1. I'm actually curious about Christensen, because I haven't seen him in anything since Sith and I have to imagine he's grown as an actor. Maybe he's been taking classes or doing theatre or something
2. I'm kinda down for the return of the rom com, though I'd prefer someone maybe do something new with it

As for the second point, I would suggest a two pronged approach:
1. Make them romantic.
2. Make them funny.
"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!

Having actual queer folks write queer romcoms would rule because there are absolutely a ton of dumb queer tropes to mine for goofs and heart-warming alike. And like, it's highly sustainable because as long as you're actually pulling from a diverse pool you won't have to deal with the problem of every movie recycling the same tired tropes over and over.

Christensen was never actually bad. He was in a couple indie movies around the time the prequels came out and he is fine.
His performance in the prequels were bad but
Y’know

I think there's something to be said for A Quiet Place's ability to make an entire theater full of people refuse to eat popcorn for fear of making a sound. Maybe I'm getting too cranky but it feels like there's a 50% chance that someone will be a jackass and talk during a given movie. And in this case it felt like people were actively suppressing their breathing just to avoid making noise.
To me that speaks of fantastic execution that relies on more skill than just throwing jump scares everywhere a la "any other old horror movie".

Like, yeah, that was good
But tense quiet scenes are absolutely nothing new for horror
I thought Emma Roberts career was going pretty well, I don't know why she's in a dodgy romcom with a version of Hayden Christensen who apparently picked the wrong grail

I thought Hayden Christensen was fine in Jumper, from memory? I liked that movie because while it was wildly stupid it had some of the best escapist power fantasy of any superhero movie, because he used his powers to have a fucking ballin time rather than beat people up.

Sisters Brothers looks pretty damn good. And I'll be very surprised if we don't end up with more DeWitt adaptations down the road.

I couldn't shake the feeling that I've seen Chalamet in something before, so I checked his IMDB page. Turns out I did. In the trailer for Beautiful Boy, just last night. Based on that alone, I'm down. Guess I should watch Call Me By Your Name.
Tau - could have easily been 3 movies. Gary Oldman plays an AI wired into a house. He's pretty good. The second act of the movie was mildly compelling, but the first and third act were bafflingly stupid.
Hey, I also watched this the other day and felt basically the same. It starts profoundly stupid, gets really interesting, and then ends kind of weakly.

He's very good in Lady Bird - He plays a very specific type of shithead really, really well, there.

The howling 2

Teen Wolf with only James Hampton as the human
Really I would not do all as it gets really unfunny silly when you do that
