Man, why are there no reviews online for this game?

Klyka, did you install the game to the HD? Wondering if that will help with its tech problems at all.

I did, it reduces the load times immensely and you should definitely do it.

it also reduces the texture pop-in to barely noticable.

it does NOT help with the framerate though, that poor thing is AWOL.

They don't mention character development or story at all. That's what I'm mostly interested in reading about. Klyka?

The story,so far, is really good. It starts out as Rush's personal story but then quickly encompasses more and more of the world/politics while not forgetting about the personal struggles of the characters.
Character development so far also seems really good, especially with Rush. When you first have him interact with characters, you think he's that standard stupid Main character who is always stupid and stays that way, but he's more...well... more "casual" and not stupid at all. And he's a bit of a careless kid at heart, but you can tell that he is definitely 18 from the way he talks/acts ect.. Also the bond to his sister is really well done and whenever Rush goes on a "rant" about how his sister was kidnapped, you don't feel like it's forced, but it's how every big brother who failed to protect his sister would feel.

And the character interactions are really well done, especially David and Rush had some cool little scenes up to where I'm at, I would say the motion capture in the cutscenes is amazingly well done.
Oh and something about the cutscenes I really love, they use some kind of movement blur. It's hard to describe, but when the characters do faster movements, like running or fighting or so, they kinda apply a little after blur to it which lots of times make the game actually look like a CG movie. I was really astounded by that the first time and it still amazes me. Also, the lighting in the game is fantastic, don't even think about this being like Lost Odyssey or Infinite Undiscovery, apart from the framerate this game has way better looks/design than both of those. And I loved LO and IU.

Also, this game has fucking ridiculously awesome flame effects. The spell effects in general are cool, but the flames are just retarded awesome. It's like they filmed real fire or something, it has to be seen. I'm a bit of a fire whore when it comes to graphics ;)

I'll now play Reviewer and give this game my score. Actually three scores, cause I always rate games on actual game elements, the technical side and tthe graphical presentation.

Game Score: 8/10 (for the first 8 hours)

Technical Score: 5/10 (framerate where art though? Only in battles though!)

Graphical presentation: 8/10 (It looks great and givs off an FF12 vibeand the character/monster designs are great so far)

Hmm. I was put off by this because of the framerate complaints. I might buy it though now, or ask for it for Christmas. Quite liked Lost Odyssey.

So... other than the terrible framerate and the graphics pop-in, this is a pretty good RPG?

Hmm... sounds like I want to wait and see if the do a patch to fix that, or wait untill if/when they release it on PC, where my monster PC can run it.

I would think frame rate wouldn't be that big of an issue with a turn based RPG. It's not like it's a FPS where an erratic frame rate might mess you up.

It does, yes. It's a slowmo on top of a slowmo. I still miss quite a few though, cause they change speed randomly.

It does not, but the voice acting is very very good.

Rumors say the PS3/PC versions MIGHT get the japanese voices as an extra. MIGHT. Rumors. MIGHT.

Pop-in and loads really aren't too bad at all when installed. I'd take a guess and say that 5-6 seconds was my top load time throughout my entire play session.

I have this game installed and the pop-in is pretty noticeable. Loading isn't horribly long, but it does occur frequently, nothing to kill the experience over though.

I never had Mass Effect installed so the comparison may not be valid but I'd say it's much better.

Also, the music is awesome. The battle themes are cool and I love the music in the desert.
Talking about the desert: It is huge. Like, super huge. And it's all one big screen. Crazy.

Yeah, I think I'll get it too. Those reviews are outdated with what a huge difference the NXE and HD installation can make. I've been craving a new JRPG but can't quite talk myself into getting a PS3 just for Valkyria Chronicles. The Last Remnant will do.

you'll spend a lot of time staring at the five-to-seven-second splash loading screen that pops up every single time you start a fight, finish a fight, go into and out of buildings, encounter a cut-scene or walk more than twenty paces in a town. Even after so much loading, the game suffers from basic technical problems like shocking texture pop-in and juddering frame-rate, even in the tutorial battles.

One 12GB hard-disk install later and things have improved, but it's far from perfect. Load times are down to two or three seconds, and the in-battle slowdown restricted to conflicts of more than about thirty combatants. But the texture pop-in is still cringeworthily noticeable

From the review here. On a related note, a 12gb install?! can the standard Xbox hdd even accommodate that?

From reading the various reviews, it sounds like a pretty good game that is seriously let down by technical deficiencies. I think I might wait for a while and see how the PS3 port fares, since playing a jrpg on a PC would just feel blasphemous somehow.

Fair enough, I didn't know it was a 2 disc game, though since DVDs don't run to 12 gig, that should have been fairly obvious.

The idea does worry me a little though, if xbox installs become effectively required for decent performance. It would eliminate one of the big plusses the xbox has over the PS3. hopefully thats just idle paranoia.

Given the slamming that The Last Remnant has been getting in the reviews for its poor performance, I don't think this will become the standard.

You have to wonder whether or not games really benefit from an install or not. I mean, there was an article saying that halo 3 shouldn't be installed because the install actually increased loading times. The reason I chose to install is to simply spare my 360's disc drive, but I would think that it would be up to the developers to take advantage of the feature to make it more efficient, rather than mandatory.

Gives the reasons why Halo 3 shouldn't be installed. Overall, it seems like (most) games benefit from an installing though. There was another article that bookmarked performance loading various aspects of the game and generally it shaved a few seconds here and there off loadtimes and such.

Man,this game can be so super hard.

guys, you can save anytime, DO THAT. Seriously, I save before every quest, before attacking a new monster, before attacking more than 3 monsters ect..

I know I'm doing lots of stuff while the story is still fresh and I'm probably not up to snuff yet,but I'm already battle rank 26 so I guess I'm well on my way.

Still, save all the time, because sometimes you meet unique monsters with green/purple names and they can fuck you up easily.

For people worried about them saying it's a 12GB install, it's a 12GB install, if you want both discs at the same time. It's not required though since, y'know, you can only play one disc at a time.

Try it out. Don't listen to reviewers, because their complaints seem to only revolve around a problem with the UE3 engine and a couple framerate hitches. For extra confidence, go look at the famitsu review numbers.

Yeah teh reviewers say the game is good but then bash on it for framerate/pop-in problems. I can personally easily deal with that having played many games on my PC (my pc SUCKS) where it was horrid graphics and slow so meh to that bullshit. I want to try this game very much. Sadly I have no money and will continue like that for a while. Cant keep buying games...too many already. Ill rent this when able or maybe christmas.

I'm on Disc 1 and I actually haven't done that much of the story.

Your question about playtime is amusing because: The game doesn't have a playtime counter. Yeah, I know. A JRPG without a playtime counter? What madness is that! But really, there's none.
But I bought the game on Friday and I would say I played for at least 10-13 hours. Maybe even a bit more.
I got about 20 Game Over screens already, cause like I said earlier, the game is very open and you can go to lots of places the story doesn't lead you to yet early on and get crushed by crazy strong mobs.
And sometimes I'm just too hotheaded and decide to attack 5 enemies at the same time which usually ends in death, cause I can only have 9 people in my group so far.

I did lots of quests (most of them very long, for good and sometimes worse) and you can pretty much grind all day long if you want to, go and harvest components, ect.
Hell,I must have run around that giant desert for at least an hour, finding three new places for the world map, fighting monsters and finding treasure.

I would recommend the game to anyone how enjoys a good RPG.

Is battle rank like....leveling up? Or....I dont understand that because I remember them saying theres not actual levels in the game but its more like...Final Fantasy 2 I think it was where you get stat ups for what you do in battle. So is battle rank a level that determines what you can do in battles with skills and strategies and stuff like that?

Battle rank basically tells you how strong you are in regards to your stats.

Also, monsters get stronger too,the higher your battle rank is,but they can't get over a certain strength.

So basically, if you fight the very first enemy at battle rank one, he is a a normal fight.
If you fight that guy at battle rank 10, he will have better stats than before but you will be much stronger, making it a pushover.

So,the enemies kinda level up with you, but not in a big way and since you gain new equipment and new skills, you are clearly getting much stronger.

Edit: Oh and battle rank also makes troops you hire stronger, so that you don't hire someone and he's like a total newbie from the start of the game.
