Klyka I would like you to know that your not making it any easier for me to put off buying this. It sounds fucking awesome.
Corin, I would like you to know that I am enjoying this game a FUCKING LOT.
And you know that I know my way round them JRPGs.
I know, I know that is why it is soo hard. I completely trust your opionion on the subject. I am trying to power through the rest of Lost Odyssey before I take the plunge on another JRPG but part me of wants to go grab LR today.

You can not "power through" Lost Odyssey. YOu have to savor it, like a fine wine with a great bouquet and terrible hair.
And LR will not only hook you but you can play this game for HOURS and not really progress the story at all. It's crazy. It's like FF12 all over again.
Am I the only one who thought Gamespot's review was complete garbage? Their text didnt match their score at all, and they grossly overstated the slowdown issues as if it made the game unplaybale, which, as anyone who has played the game will know, is rubbish.
I think all review sites have downhill recently, I really don't think I can beleive a word of any of them

The slowdown is bad. Would I like the slowdown to not be present? Yes.
Does the slowdown affect gameplay? No.
Does it keep me from playing the game the way it's meant to be played? No.
Does it take away my enjoyment of the game? No.
Ergo: The game shines, the presentation is great and the technical side is bad.
It is a great JRPG. That's what matters at the end.

Agreed. I was speaking about the same thing on Gamefaqs (before I decided to quit gamefaqs entirely) and I got nothing but stupid answers which sounded like they had come from 10 year old boys. So, Thank you for a good, intelligent answer Klyka, :P
It is interesting that they, and many others, have had so much trouble with UE3. Obviously amazing things can be done with the engine, Gears 2 blows my mind every time I fire it up. But it makes you wonder how much time and money is actually saved by buying an engine vs building it in house. It also seems like SE could have probably taken another 6 months and really tuned it up and had a winner on their hands. It is starting to look like Epic needs to have a team of devs to just fly around and help companies optimize the engine. Stuff like this makes you really appreciate companies like Valve and Blizzard who just won't release a title until it is polished to a sheen.
I am definitely picking this up, though hopefully I will have the self control to wait until I finish up LO.

Given how far you are in LO since release, you'll be done with LO in, oh, 5 years.

Yeah its never a good idea to have two epic storylines going at once. I've tried if before, and got massively confused!

Haha I am actually almost on disc 3. I just picked it back up this weekend and made it most of the way through disc 2. About 2 weeks ago I grabbed up a vga cable for my spare 360 and hooked it up to the pc monitor which has increased my play time 10x. No more negotiating with the wife for tv time.

Disk 3 is mostly cutscenes and story segments so that won't take too long actually. Disk 4 becomes more meaty again with the gameplay though

Maybe they'll fix the massive slowdown on the PS3 version.
This game is interesting enough for at least a rental when it comes out.
Thanks to Klyka, this is now on my to buy list. I just don't have any time to play it. But I WILL buy it eventually. Maybe I'll see how the PS3 version fares, I don't know. Gotta play through the 10 or so games I have sitting here first.

You know I thought of this too but I think you would be better off putting your hopes on the PC version. UE3 has had major problems on the PS3.
I was worried because this game looked like "generic RPG by SE thats NOT FF", and was even more turned off by the "holy crap graphical issues." But if the consensus is that the game storyline and game play rocks and the technical aspects kick it in the balls - well that I can live with.
Ok, the fact that I wanted it anyway and peoples' thoughts in this thread have made me want to get this game. However, I won't be getting it until Christmas at the earliest, and even then I don't know if I'll be playing it right away, so...I guess I won't be saying much about it until then!
Dear god even the GAF thread is loving on this game. I need to see if I can free up 6gb on my hdd as that might decide whether I buy this sooner rather than later.

I’m really interested in playing this. Watching gameplay footage on Gametrailers made me cringe a little with all the slowdown, but it’s nice to know playing off the hard drive helps quite a bit. The fact that you can save anywhere and can tackle as many or as few enemies you like (with a higher reward for being more risky) sounds great. After hearing about how The World Ends With You wasn’t the success Square-Enix were hoping for, it’s nice to hear that another game is using a few similar ideas.
Man. This may seriously tip me into picking up a 360 on Black Friday. I've been craving some kind of good squad/army based RPG something fierce. The lack of Ogre Battle for the last couple generations is killing me.

I've got bad news for you about Rush. :winky:
I watched the gametrailers review right after posting that and found out I was wrong anyway.
I just watched GT's review, too, and I didn't even really notice much slowdown. Sure, it was there, but not to the exaggerated levels of these other reviews. I guess this will be going on my Christmas list!

That was a fine review. They covered most aspects of the game in what seemed like a fair way and largely left it up to the viewer to decide whether they like what they saw, and the scores seemed almost tacked on in that you really should have made up your mind by the time the video was over.
after watching that review I can safely say the pop-in and slowdown will not in any way annoy me and I want this game more than ever.
Didn't bother me at all with Mass Effect, and it was pretty bad on that game.
Indeed. Stuff like pop-in and slowdown doesnt really bother me at all. Like I said before, Ive played games on my PC that were horrendously slow and kept going despite that so I dont really care. And from that review, Im sure the game will slow down but goddamn these reviewers must be exagerating to the max extent of hatred. Im guessing the reason reviewers are bitching about the slow down is because even if its a small amount, its in EVERY battle, and thats not good from a technical view. I still want the game and I dont care about all the slowdown/pop-in bullshit but Im guessing thats why it was bashed on so much, because its not a sometimes thing, its an every single battle thing.

Nothing to really cry about IMO.
AH Renzo you beat me to it! lol. I was going to post the GT Review thismorning too. But anyway, its a much better review than that rubbish from the likes of Gamespot. I'm about 12 or 13 hours in now and I think the game is incredible!

QFT and stuffs.
I've don't even notice the pop-in stuff, unless I'm looking for it.
The only time I really even noticed it was when a character from one of the big races (the rhino-looking guys with fish tales). His body was taking up the entire screen, and loaded as a dull texture.
I guess I've been playing MMOs and other PC games too long. I basically expect that kind of stuff to happen, and it doesn't bother me.
The only loading/slow down I don't really like is the starburst looking thing you have to stare out before each battle. But it's far from horrid.
The Union stuff is very cool, and I haven't even gotten to where I can recruit non-Leaders.
The weapon-upgrade and monster-capture stuff is kind of interesting too.
What I don't quite understand is some of the description stuff for the special attacks. Like Omnistrike says something like "modifier: Godly Maul" . What does that mean? It does Maul/hammer damage? If I use a Maul/hammer it'll do more damage?
I also wish it would let you select what mystic or combat arts you use in battle. It's almost like a random selection. Unless I'm missing something.
But basically, I'm having a lot of fun and am really enjoying the game.

And the PS3 will probably get Japanese audio.
Still I don't regret buying it on 360. I sold my PS3 a month ago and I'd rather play the game now than in half a year.
