It isn't really addressed because they're just meant to be snappy names that quickly give you the gist of their powers and mindsets
So it's superficial? I was expecting more.
it's a shallow shonen that happens to have really good characterizations
this ain't Monster or Berserk dude, enjoy the ride
also most shonen are meant for the 15-25 japanese male crowd, not kids
People outside of the intended age range always consume media of course. But the target market for shonen is 12-18 year old boys.
Of course that didn’t stop Attack on Titan from being hugely popular with my JHS girl students, or One Piece being crazy popular with my elementary students, or like half of the truckers I saw in Japan having One Piexe flags in their cabs.
Speaking of names and the meanings behind them, perhaps the biggest surprise I had with the series was finding out that “Plus Ultra” is an actual saying created half a millennia ago and not, as I had assumed for a long time, just the author putting together some English words that sounded cool.
I heard about the pillars of Hercules before I knew any latin of note.

even if you're a dub-watcher (which is cool! chris sabat is an inspired choice) you should really listen to some of kenta miyake's all might, it's so fucking good
the way his voice changes as he switches between forms, the way he sounds gaunt and haggard and flexes to being 1000% full of bombast and heroism, he knocks it out of the park. easily a top 5 all time anime seiyuu performance for me

i think i got on board with bakugo around the time of his final exam with midoriya. there's something all might says in episode 2 that tracks VERY CLOSELY with a realisation bakugo has during the test
i'm paraphrasing here but it's something like 'pro heroes risk their lives every day' and 'how could i beat you without taking any risks'
and i was like is bakugo.. cool.....?
todoroki remains my fave tho, he's like prince zuko if he had decided he wanted to be a good guy from the start
Bakugo is talking about his gauntlets, they let him fire off the enormous blast with very little risk to himself.
Then All Might smashes the gauntlets.
yeah, just rewatched it
all might destroys the gauntlets first, then bakugo goes all out and his full line is "The gauntlets were so I could use maximum firepower with no risk! I was so stupid... there's no way I could beat you without taking any risks!"
Edit: Ilike it, but also hate it because I don’t want the invisible nudist to also be secretly evil.

all uraraka wants is to be able to afford a nice vacation to hawaii for her overworked parents, if that isn't the most wholesome thing i don't know what is, i will not stand for this slander

According to noted edgelord Stain, that is one of the worst things for a hero to be a hero for.
None of the students are a mole imo . The anime apparently changes some dialouge to make that clear in the training camp arc as well. At this point I doubt there is a mole( well excluding one character) as they've kimda dropped that plot thread
I feel All for one knew about the camp because he had been stalking the pussycats to get ragdoll. The other attacks dont really require a spy to pull off
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

This makes her even better.
One of my favorite ludicorous Stain-adjacent lines was Spinner saying something like "As soon as someone accepts money for hero work, they cease to be worth calling a hero!".
Which, like, dude. Even All Might needs to eat.

All Might is American.
Endeavor even points this out by being outraged that the American is leading the assault on the villain HQ.
But yeah, he's American.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

That was just Endeavor's way of mocking All Might's fanboyishness. He is not literally an American.
I can totally see there being big quote marks around "American" when he yells at All Might.

I like the crackpot theory that lightning kid is the traitor, and his "braindead when overloading" side effect is just a cover, plus there was an official art of him smirking that "when you split it down the middle he looks like a good guy on the left side and a villain on the right".
There's actually more evidence presented, like how his powers could have sabotaged the security to allow the villains to come in during their first exercise, or he could plausibly be the leaker of their location, but it's the picture-split-down-the-middle evidence that gives me the laughs.

There's a pretty dumb traitor-theory for not long ago in the manga.
A new character complains about the way things work, in public, on stage, in front of TV-cameras, to the audience, to the organisers and to the heroes.
Fan, a genius: "I don't trust that guy. I bet he secretly disagrees with the way things work."

That time she wore a truck like a shoe to smash a building was spectacular.

Wait, there’s a movie coming?
I mean, of course there is, but there’s a movie coming?
we live in a society
I believe the same voice actor also does the japanese dub of Kratos in dad of war
and its perfect
yeah, just rewatched it
all might destroys the gauntlets first, then bakugo goes all out and his full line is "The gauntlets were so I could use maximum firepower with no risk! I was so stupid... there's no way I could beat you without taking any risks!"
Those reasons: He's a huge westaboo.
On that note: there’s a much more comprehensive mole theory about one of the other characters.
Here’s the start of the thread about it

She will still be my favorite

One time present mic yelled "THERE'S A MOLE" or something.
The question of a mole becomes a lot more complicated
One of my favorite ludicorous Stain-adjacent lines was Spinner saying something like "As soon as someone accepts money for hero work, they cease to be worth calling a hero!".
Which, like, dude. Even All Might needs to eat.
Endeavor even points this out by being outraged that the American is leading the assault on the villain HQ.
But yeah, he's American.
it was in the last few episodes
the idea being that the league of villains couldn't have known about the summer camp unless someone leaked it to them

That was just Endeavor's way of mocking All Might's fanboyishness. He is not literally an American.
It still bugs me that they never ruled out the possibility of Quirk for clairvoyance or long-range mindreading.
I can totally see there being big quote marks around "American" when he yells at All Might.

if the mole is working for all for one then he would've given them a quirk that's useful for subterfuge

Yup, pretty open-and-shut, actually!

Are you Ahmad Rashad
Then you do not know the identity of the mole
Nomus seem to be built to be braindead
