District 9 was really good, right? I remember liking it when I first saw it but I haven't seen it in a while, or any of his other movies at all
I appreciate that they made the aliens look like gross bug aliens and still crafted a story where the audience is supposed to sympathize and root for them. Though that might be more due to the Avatar coming out six months later with their shitty, uninspired designs for the Navi.
The movie itself is kinda alright, except for the fact they focused on a thoroughly unlikable character, and his core plot is 100% not what I came to that movie for.
Elysium was forgettable. The only thing I really remember is
The main badguy getting his face completely disintegrated, only to come back later because the space medical technology is that damn good.
.
Chappie was okay. I liked the movie enough, though the execution could have used a lot of work. (The Neil Blomkamp signature, I guess.)
What was that RoboCop riffing project where somebody shot five minutes of dudes getting their dicks shot off?
I wanna say it affiliated with Channel 101/Dan Harmon/Rob Schrab in some way, but I can't clearly recall
I love the dick getting shot off bit from this so much, I think about it at least once a week. Just the expression on Robo's face as more and more flopped out dicks show up and he must continue to shoot them off.

I haven't seen it since it came out, and I'm kind of worried it might not hold up, but I cherish the memory of it

I just watched it when you mentioned it because it had been since the first and boy howdy. I'd forgotten how graphic the destroyed dicks look. And the part where he holds the gun like 2 inches from a dick and burst fires directly into it.

It has become a regular part of our bar trivia's video segment.
Maybe it's seeing it in a wildly reacting crowd, but I've seen that video five times now? And it's just the bees knees every time.
@Uriel I think the new RoboCop is worth watching. I enjoyed it but I think it's in an awkward position where it's different enough from RoboCop that it doesn't need the name, but everyone would compare it to RoboCop anyways
Why does RoboCop get made in the original film? I honestly can't remember.

He gets brutally shot to pieces by a gang.
I think there's also a part about OCP owning his body due to a weird police insurance loophole as well, which is why they mod him, but I can't remember that bit clearly.

Is he just a "this would be cool" experiment, or is there a bigger reason for OCP to make a RoboCop in the first place?

The company in the movie basically owns Detroit and after the stop motion metal gear malfunctions and kills anboard member, the up and coming guy in the company gets an opportunity to put his idea into action, which is to make a cop onto a RoboCop. They find a good cop that appears to have good morals and deliberately put him in a dangerous district and wait for him to get fucked up enough to be cyborg'd
That's probably not 100% accurate, it's been a while since I've seen it

Looking at the wikipedia to refresh, Robocop is a pet project of one of a couple of 2 bickering executives, the other being behind ED-209, so Murphy is just raw material for a boardroom dispute on which product to make.

The corporation that basically runs detroit owns the Detroit police department and thus somehow Murphy's corpse and so they turn him into Robocop after he gets a gangland execution.
The corporation was infighting over ways to lower the Detroit crime rate, and Robocop was the proposal that got greenlit after the ED-209 demo failed spectacularly.

Oh no, it had nothing to do with his morals.
He just so happened to be the stiff from the DPD that came in on time that day.

Pretty certain it’s mentioned in the movie that they screened for a strong sense of duty, and transferred the most promising cops to the most dangerous parts of the city like Speed said

The police force was undermanned due to strikes.
Murphy was a 'good cop' and wasn't going join the strikers, out of a sense of duty rather than disagreeing with them.
There's an implication that OCP was deliberately ignoring the cops concerns to force acceptance of the robotic policing initiative.
it's weird hearing how little anime the giant bomb people actually saw walking around the floor at anime expo
I dunno the last time I went to an anime convention, mostly to visit someone I hadn't seen in awhile who was working artist alley, I spent some spare time walking around the rest of the convention going "Huh, there really isn't much to do here"
Then walked around the dealer's hall for awhile, bought some bullshit, and just kind of hung around until AA closed

Halo
Will he say the line “Hi guys, I’m Halo.”?
Have you ever seen the subplot Iron Man 3 had but only in China?
Because it's insane.

In classic elon fashion does this mean people show interest a few days too late
It's a watchable movie that more or less has the same themes
But there's not really any reason to ever watch it when you could watch the original instead

But seeing as how I have big weird shaped feet I've never thought much about shoes beyond "can my foot get in it"
it would never occur to me to want fashionable limited edition shoes.
mostly because I'm lucky to find a pair that actually fit much less look any particular way.

It’s worth going back and rewatching.
Speed’s right that the waivers/high risk areas thing was for prime candidates like Murphy. He just happened to be first of them to go.
I posit that it is great.

Yeah I could not disagree more

It's not actually available for streaming anywhere, without renting/buying on amazon or itunes or something like that.
Only if it's secretly a Western
It was on hulu a few months ago. That sucks.
But I really like the experimental shorts and stuff that he does under Oats Studios. Some of those are extremely cool.
