I feel like I missed something, I was watching EVO pretty on and off though. There was a stall during melee grand finals at evo this year? Or...? Because I don't remember that?
Not Melee, the newer one
Oh, but the finals for that were on Saturday, not Sunday, and therefore were in no way able to delay the start of other grand finals on Sunday such as SFV.
This helps explain why this thread was confusing me quite a bit.

The thing about expecting community leaders to do something is that.. there isn't really such a thing? There's no single place the community is based, no single source of moderation, no group hierarchy. And the the people who are "leaders" in any sense are only leaders because they represent the views of the community at large. If they tried to go against that to effect some positive change, they'd be turned on by the mob instantly.

oh yeah you're right I didn't watch it live so i got goofed up on that
Wait did anything happen after the smash 4 finals on Saturday? Because from what I can tell it was the last event of the night, other than Tekken semi finals that were concurrent with them
I guess the IGN Nintendo editor stole a review wholesale from a small youtube reviewer, and IGN immediately copped to it and let the guy go
Its crazy that someone at a position like that thought that noone would notice, I just don't understand why you'd try doing that
Turns out it wasn't the first time, people found other reviews by that guy that was copied from elsewhere, but it seemed the most egregious. A lot of passages barely touched on.

Honestly I find the serious hand-wringing over the crowd booing pretty weird.
Like, baseball crowds boo if the pitcher checks a runner too many times. Most other sports will get booed for fouls (real or otherwise). Booing is just... part of the thing?
When an unpleasant person is screeching about the power they have, any demonstration that amounts to "No, you do not have power. You do not have power over me, and will not control my actions. Your actions show that you are weak, and do not even have power over yourself." is an act in the interest of the public well-being.

Are you talking about the Smash players stalling in response to the crowd booing? Or the tournament organizers reminding the smash players that stalling is against the rules and forcing them to play?

So, no other player's time got wasted at all
the Tekken top 8 was on Sunday, BBTAG was the only other non-side tournament top 8 on Saturday and they went before Smash 4. Smash 4 was just delaying showing side tournament top 8 streams being run that night like UNIST I think...?

The booing happening was entertaining, and the stalling caused by it was even more entertaining, ergo both were good and the entertainment product was more entertaining

And of course, promoting entertainment value above all else has never turned out to be bad for anyone, ever

"sports fans do it" should never be justification for any sort of behavior
eSports won't be real sports until at least a few stabbings happen at a game and we get at least a couple good riots with appreciable property damage after some match results.

Why isn't the aerial footage after EVO showing all the overturned arcade cabs and fires started because your team won? Let me know when fighting games want to get serious.
I don't know if people remember this, but right before christmas last year, the Atlanta airport's power died, completely, for an entire day
tens of thousands of people were trapped there without ready access to food, water, working bathrooms, or showers
My wife was stuck there, and I was FUCKING TERRIFIED, because when you have a cauldron of upset people concentrated like that, LITERALLY all it takes is one fucking asshole to throw a punch and then one other person to follow up on it and not stop it and then you have a riot
Booing is NOT harmless, and Tube is absolutely correct that its not a huge leap from booing to violence
It's interesting to see this attitude compared to the fighting games thread where people were generally more against the stalling at the time than anything

You get used to the shit you see on the regular. And the FGC has a long and storied history of shitty behavior. (And some really stand out good moments too.)

I'm willing to bet shit like this has happened a lot without or with minimal consequences.

They can run a side tournament in the...well the Melty Blood players already have dibs on the bathroom...

I wonder if the deal is that its not a text review, so it would be harder to just run some kind of crawler to check for plagiarism
apparently they have already reached out to him and are trying to fogure out how to pay him some compensation
by all accounts ign has handled it very well

Going from booing to actual violence is a hell of a jump, and not helpful in any way.

The hell it is, it's that shitty attitude towards football fans that ends up with this
