Out of college w/ extended diploma - what kind of wages to expect?

MetcalfeMetcalfe Registered User new member
Hello all

I've recently finished my extended diploma in Computing and now applying for jobs around me - a lot of them are like managing online retail stores and web development/systems management type jobs. I've applied at one company which has come back with a wage if I accept it (is this even normal? have never heard of this before). I'd get around 20000 after tax (live in London). I've looked around and found I could make a lot more (after training, etc) going into the RAF. I'm not 100% sure what I want to do in computing, just want somewhere with opportunity - what would be my best course of action?

Thanks :)

Not sure if it works in the UK, but onetonline.org is a pretty solid dataset for in the states. Here is the web development site for the US: https://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/15-1134.00

There probably is a UK version of this sort of thing.

Just to check, the link you've given seems wrong. £20,000 Net salary is about £25k gross salary.

Secondly, when you say college degree, can we double check you mean a Level 3 BTEC, and not an "American college" degree which is an university undergraduate degree/BTEC Level 4-7?

A lot of answers could change drastically if those two pieces of information aren't correct, so I'll wait for you to reply. :)
