    By the way, re: caches

they make a noise when you get near them. I dunno how to describe it, but it's pretty distinctive.

It's how i look for them in plains bounties and other missions.

    So I played Warframe back in 2015 / 2016, but got distracted by Dark Souls 3 and never quite made it back. Well, last week I finally got the game reinstalled and have been playing around a bit and finding my feet again. Unfortunatly when I look at my equipment I can't help but feel I am lacking - I think all my gear is pretty good, and I have looked up various builds... but I just keep thinking that I am being a bit sub-par. Would be great if someone has the time to take a look and throw me any pointers;

    Warframe (Frost Prime)
The first Prime I ever got, the Frost just sits right for me. I know I can mod this for less duration and more efficiency to spam out Icy Avalanche (take out Continuity, replace with Streamline), but personally I perfer the longer duration. This gives me 740 Health, 525 Shields, 630 Armour (+Arcane Guardian Rk3), 145% PwrStr, 160% PwrEff, 145% PwrRng, and 85% PwrDur
    FrostPrime1_zps9bvtlrwp.png

    Primary (Braton Prime)"
This was one I had modded up back from 2016, and I have just stuck with it as it was there. Previous to this I ran a Boltor Prime, Sobek and Dread all at various points. I keep looking at the Corrinth and leveled it up to 30... but Rifles keep pulling me back! This is however probably where I have the most issues I think... it has damage mods and a decent status chance (I assume Corrosive is still the go-to if you don't mod out for each enemy). However when I can build the Corrinth or Dread to have 6-8K per shot this just feels lacking. Is the Braton just outclassed, and if so are rifles viable endgame or do you have to go Shotgun / Bow?
    BratonPrime_zps4izfqhpo.png
Also, I previously ran Carrier and ammo was never an issue but I since switched to Taxon and and finding myself running low and actually having to switch to the secondary. Is a mutation mod worth putting in at the cost of some damage?

    Secondary (Lex Prime)
The Lex just seems to be my go-to secondary.. nothing to flashy. I never used it before thanks to Carrier, but now the Braton is running low I find myself switching out on long defend / survivals etc
    LexPrime_zpsykyzu3hi.png

    Melee
Nothing I have feels right here. I like the Dakra Prime asthetics but it's damage is apauling. I have the Nikana Prime and it can do amazing damage but it just doesn't sit right with Frost (I can throw it on Nyx or Excalibur any day of the week, but just not Frost). Had a look at the Fang, Orthos, Scindo and Reaper and non of them have the "this is it" feeling. Any suggestions on a good melee to pair with Frost (I rarely use the melee mode, so it's use is mostly relegated to tapping "E")

    Sentinel (Taxon / Artax)
So as mentioned above, I previously ran the go-to standard Carrier / Sweeper - however when leveling up the Taxon for mastery, I found I just liked its character. Between the overshields and the freeze ray it just seems useful and i notice it doing stuff, where as with Carrier it was "just there". Taxon I went with a survivability build, but I have no idea what to do with Artax... no point modding for damage, crit, or status... so I just went with fire rate, target range (zoom), and blast (for the rare occasion it procs). It works and I am happy with how it performs, but not sure how I can push it more.
    Taxon_zpsaojl1zfe.png
    Artax_zpsa8tvg78w.png

Any help for a returning player with all the gear but no idea would be greatfully recieved! I don't have the need to be min-maxed and have the best of the best, but I want to be able to run sorties without feeling like a drain on the team.

    1. It might be better to maximize shields instead of armor on Frost Prime since he has no built in health regen. Ie, you want to take as much damage as possible on the shields before you bubble up. Especially since you have Guardian on your sentinel.
    2. Braton Prime. You need to decide if you want a raw damage build or a status build. If you're going for a raw damage build you should replace Fanged Fusillade for a heat mod and replace the electricity mods for cold (since you only need one viral proc to get a really big effect) and then rejuggle your mods so that you have Viral+Heat. Fanged Fusillade only multiplies the slashing portion of the bratons damage and it doesn't count as base damage, which means that the actual bonus effect is equivalent to a 60%-80% elemental damage mod (something like that). If you're going for a status build you should keep Fanged Fusillade (since it boosts the number of slashing procs and they're really good), replace the toxin mod with a damage/status equivalent and still consider going Viral damage since viral has a really good proc (you need a lot of corrosive procs to equal a viral one).
    3. Remove No Return. No Return used to be a thing when it bypassed armor. Now it's useless. Replace it with something like Quickdraw (faster reload) or Gunslinger (faster shooting).
    4. Might I recommend Atterax. It's a crit whip with massive range. It's really good as just a crit melee weapon, and if you get Blood Rush and one of the Combo mods (like Body count or Drifting Contact. Note that Drifting contact is really easy to get by comparison) you can clear entire high-level missions just using the whip. If you're going "I NEED MORE DAMAGE!" I recommend the Galatine. Both the normal and Prime version deal massive damage with good range. Later on Heliocor is a weapon that everyone should have (since it scans everything it kills), even though it takes a bit of time to get your hands on (you need a fair bit of reputation with Cephalon Simaris).
    5. If you're happy with how the Taxon works, then let it work. As for the artax, you should add Shred (so that it cold procs enemies behind cover) and Continous Misery to increase the proc duration (moar freezy!).

I've entered the long slog of gathering enough Fieldron to build a Helios. I really like the idea of something that will do the scanning for me.

How does Helios interact with Synthesis targets? Do I still need to manually use the Synthesis Scanner to see the trail to the target? Will Helios scan the target when I find it, or do I still need to do that manually?

Finally got lucky last night and had Link Shields drop randomly when I went to kill Vey Hek. I've had a hard time getting the mods I need for my Helminth Charger, but now I've got Link Health and Link Shields. Really need to find Link Armor since Rhino is my primary against challenging content.

Helios can run off of synthesis scanner charges (including infinite charge from the one widget), but it won't show you the trail or do the synthesis targets for you.

Helios cannot scan synthesis targets or track the since it uses the standard scanner and you have to use the special one for the targets.

Hello, I want to start playing Warframe - for unknown reasons I can not write a post on the Warframe main forum - it's possible that I have to wait 24h, and maybe it's some error.
I want to start playing because the game looks great and develops very nicely.
The first question: How to use mods? Which mods are worth investing in at the beginning of the game?
Which frame to choose at the beginning (if I understand how it works).

I will be grateful for your response

Buy Warframe Platinum, it's cheap currency, also you can buy Warframe mods and frames. New MMO with many players, Warframe platinum

When you start, you get to choose between 3 warframes:
Excalibur, a sword wielding somewhat melee-focused frame.
    Volt, an electricty based frame.
    Mag, a magnetism based frame.

You really can't make a 'wrong' choice on starter frame, but it really depends on what you enjoy. This is going to be a theme throughout the whole game, by the way, for warframes, weapons, mods, you name it.

You will be taught about mods as you play, they won't be available right away, so you'll need to unlock them through the story. The biggest piece of advice I can offer is: try them out! They aren't permanently equipped, you can change them between missions. And don't get too invested in 'leveling' up mods that have the word "DAMAGED" below their name. This means they are worse versions of good mods you will find later.

Which frame to choose at the beginning (if I understand how it works).

I will be grateful for your response

    How to use mods:
Step one: Complete the Vor's prize quest. When you start the game you basically have nothing and the Vor's Prize will unlock all the basics one step at a time. It's a tutorial quest.
Step two: Visit the Arsenal. It's the console straight ahead once you go down the first ramp from the lander. From this point you can modify all aspects of your warframe, appearance, loadout, mods etc. Equip a weapon. Press Upgrade.
Step three: Once you have enough Capacity you can start putting mods on the weapon. A weapon can be ranked up to lvl30. For each rank you get a Capacity point (two if you have an Orokin Catalyst installed), and each mod drains a number of capacity points. Each mod has a polarity (the little mark in the upper right corner next to the number). If this mark matches the mark in a warframes/weapons mod slot, then that mod drains -50% capacity (rounded up. So if it drains 9 points normally it will drain 5 if the slot has the proper polarity). If it has a different polarity it will drain 50% more capacity.
Step four: Mods can be upgraded. First press the "Mods" button in the arsenal, or by visiting the mod station. By default only Equipped mods are shown when you click the Mods button, so change the filters if the mod isn't equipped. By clicking the mod you want to upgrade and then press Fusion you can use Credits and Endo to rank up a mod. Each rank costs exponentially more Credits/endo.

Do not put too much effort into your Damaged mods (the mod itself has a cracked window) like this one.
These are inferior to their undamaged versions.

    Important mods:
Warframe: At first you want toughness increasing mods, Redirection (shields) and Vitality (health). That gives you the margins to survive as a relatively inexperienced warframe player. +Enemy Radar (like Enemy Radar, Enemy Sense and Vigiliante Pursuit) can also help give you a better sense of your surroundings. Otherwise you want mods that increase your powers, but that depends entirely on the power itself (for example, Stretch is really good when using Rhino Stomp or Excaliburs Blind. Useless for Rhino's Iron Skin).
For weapon mods. Lets take rifles as an example. Serration is the most important one, but you won't be able to get that one right away. Slightly less important, slightly harder to get but same applies for the multishot mod (Split chamber). Elemental mods are also really good (and are relatively quickly acquired). Otherwise it depends on the weapon. If a weapon has a decent Crit chance (20%+, preferably 25%+) and decent crit multiplier (x2.0 or higher unless the crit chance is exceptional. x3.0 is really good) it will like Crit chance and Crit damage mods. Rate of fire mods can be really good (or just empty your magazine super fast), reload mods can make your life easier. etc etc. It's a learning experience.

And if it's a Bow, then you really really really want fire rate mods (Speed Trigger in that case), because the higher your fire rate the faster you draw your bow which both increases your DPS and reduces the delay for getting off a shot.

    Which warframe:
Excalibur is IMHO the most newbie friendly. None of the frames are that hard to get (You need to be in a clan that has Volt research to get your hands on Volt, but almost every clan has volt researched).

P.S: The most important thing to know is that if you want to skip the least enjoyable phase of Warframe (getting the base damage and multishot mods such as Serration, Hornet Strike, Split Chamber and such) PA clan members are quite generous and frequently have extra copies to give you, even if you're not in the clan. But when you ask a clan member, make sure that you have credits in your wallet since there is a trade tax (2000 for a common, 4000 for uncommon, 8000 for a rare. If you want the basic Rifle&Pistol&shotgun trade package you need 36000 credits. Preferably more since clan members might go "But do you have this hard to get dual stat damage/status mod? I better give you that as well" if they have extra copies of those as well).

    1. It might be better to maximize shields instead of armor on Frost Prime since he has no built in health regen. Ie, you want to take as much damage as possible on the shields before you bubble up. Especially since you have Guardian on your sentinel.
Armor boosts snowglobe's health, same as warframe health. You should keep it on.
(note: the correct answer is status build. It's cooler and there are better DPS assault rifles)

I'm partial to the sparring melee weapons, like the Obex and Hirudo. The latter has free lifesteal on crits, so it's really useful, and the the former has a mods that gives it bonus ground finisher damage, corpse explosions on enemies killed with ground finishers, and Sequence.

Note though that different sparring/fist weapons are good at different things, for different reasons.

Hirudo is one of the best quickmelee weapons in the game, with very fast damage, decent crit, life gain, health boost.
Obex has the hilariously powerful Entropy Detonation mod.

All fist weapons have built in knockdown on their charge attack, and the most powerful ground finishers in the game (although only slightly better than Sparring weapons which have the second most powerful ground finishers in the game). Tekko is hilariously powerful for "melee only" using a Berserker/Blood Rush build. They also have some extremely powerful combos.

Obex, Hirudo, Tekko and Kogake Prime are all fun and powerful, although it takes a bit more effort to get used to each of the individual weapons.

I powered through a lot of saved up stuff in my Foundry and now I should hit MR11 after the test unlocks tonight. This means I can finally use Phage, a weapon I've wanted to try for a while!

But I can't find any information on whether phage should be status or critical or both. Both stats seem high! My instinct says critical. And I'm not sure whether to use Vicious Spread or just a generic element, since vicious spread only applies to its original spread.

Sparring weapons also have a great ragdoll on their slide attack. Punts dudes into low orbit, can be pretty useful for those targets that you need away from you faster than it'll take to kill them. It's also just hilarious. If you get the Brutal Tide stance for them, it's also great for ragdolling everything within a meter of you.

Yeah you'll be able to collect them, they will add relics with the vaulted parts to the drop tables (usually only in one or two game modes) that you can earn and then use anytime.

Only thing you have to spend real money for is the accessories, but those are cosmetic only.

Last unvaulting they changed all the bounty reward tables to have a heavy emphasis on Vault Relics, as well dispersing them amongst the Endless loot tables, so it was super easy to acquire the necessary relics.

    Both. An Unvaulting event involves
    1. The release of a "UNVAULTED!" package where you can (for platinum) buy all the items involved in the unvaulting.
    2. An event where a number of relics are available for a limited amount of time (where together they can give you the parts of all the various unvaulted thingies, except the cosmetic items). Previously they've been inserted into the normal relic stream, but for the last even you got the special relics through the Plains of Eidolon.

The last unvaulting had Loki Prime (Bo, Wyrm) and Ember Prime (Sicarus, Glaive) along with Return of Frost Prime (Latron and Reaper).

Hopped into this finally this weekend to give it a shot, and after a bit of a curve (and discovering I enjoy playing dramatically more with a controller over kbam, which evoked weird emotions) things started to click and I'm finding it pretty fun.

I'm also finding it almost paralyzingly overwhelming. I know I'm coming into a several year old game but good lord there is so much stuff. I tried checking out some forums, reddit, etc, but the meta stuff people are talking about makes no sense within the context of what I have available in the early game.

It makes me feel like nothing I'm doing now will matter, so I don't know if I should be saving anything (like credits, or the mod currency) for later and not bothering with the basic stuff, or what.

I got a booster for affinity; actually I think I was supposed to get more than one from some of the codes I put in, but I don't see any way of checking that? A video I watched said not to worry because they stack, but I also don't see any indication that's the case? There's also a shopping cart icon that keeps flashing indicating (I think) that I can buy platinum for a discount, but I don't intend on doing that, and I don't see any way to dismiss it, but it's kind of obnoxious.

I don't know how much, if at all, I'll stick around. Seems like, while fun, requires an insane amount of time investment that I don't think I can give, and it seems like playing casually is really limiting to the sheer amount of things to do (and I'm already tired of the tilesets of Earth and Venus). I actively choose to ignore whatever nonsense is going on with the vendors and reputation on the city on Earth. I didn't understand how it was tied to the pvp activities on the ship, but they share a cap, and then there's animals and fish and nah.

But should I bother upgrading, merging, whatever the mods or will they just be completely useless quickly and the currency is more valuable?

Rhino Prime is unvaulting? I gotta get on that for sure considering Rhino is my most-used frame at the moment. Nyx Prime not so much, I have most of his pieces already and he's low on priority list.

    1. Warframe requires a lot of time....spread out over how much time you want. It's however divided into very small portions of effort, so you can play as much or as little as you want. So IMHO it's very casual friendly in terms of time investment. I should know. Stuff like EVE Online and City of Heroes/Villains ate up so much of my life when I played those games, while Warframe just keeps low-key ticking. I can get back into the game whenever I want, and get out of it whenever I want. And with the exception of some overhauls (which have IMHO improved the game so vastly that they were definitely justified) I feel that all my experience piles up.
With 1000+ hours invested into this game there are many portions that I don't bother with at all, or only as a sideeffect, because I don't feel like it. The Operator, Archwing, PvP (I haven't even touched Lunaro. and why would I?). And I feel fine. Just get over the hump ("What am I dooiiiing?") and it's sweet sailing from there.
    2. Feel free to ignore the Plains of Eidolos until you feel ready. Same goes for pretty much everything beyond the basic Run&Gun except it's good to have a basic Archwing setup since so many Easy Cash events involve some archwing stuff.
    3. Mods are a resource like everything else. Personally I'm Endo-positive, so every now and then I sell off the mods where I have more than 15 duplicate. However, if you're short of endo, convert mods into endo. If you're short on credits, convert into credits. Just make sure that you keep (or can get more of) 1 copy of every warframe mod and 2 copies of weapon mods (one for you, one for your Companion sentinel/kubrow/Kavat). You should rank up mods that you put into your warframe/guns. If you can put 3-5 dots into the mod, rank it up fully. If you can put 10 dots into the mod, then it's a VERY longtime project (putting priority on Serration and Hornet Strike, the rifle and pistol base damage mods).

A lot of the earlier mods you're likely to have are "damaged" mods and aren't super strong. Not a big investment for those, so it's not a big deal. Players in the clan can probably help you get the standard mods.

There is a lot to take in though. My suggestion is to focus on unlocking the new planets on the star map, which will give you free blueprints and run you through a lot of the game's systems slowly. As far as equipment goes, just try new stuff. You'll want to use your platinum on new slots, so you can try new warframes and weapons. Leveling new stuff boosts your mastery and allows for new weapons. Some popular items for early on are acquiring the Rhino Warframe parts from the boss on Venus and the Hek shotgun which you can buy the blueprints for from Mastery Rank 4 on. Will carry you through a lot of content.

As far as the rep grind on Cetus, no reason to worry about it too hard at the moment. I'm very deep in with all sorts of crazy shit and I just recently bothered hitting their third tier of reputation.

Oh, as far as your boosts go, it should cycle through them and show a timer in the top right corner of the screen when you're on your orbiter.

Valkyr Prime almost ready to come out of the oven and Rhino Prime coming out of the vault makes me happy. My phone going off with alerts for aura mods I want when I am stuck at work not so much. Also I think I still need a PC clan invite. Or it's hidden in the U.I. somewhere and I am to dumb to find it.

Does any activity in the game reward platinum or is it only the cash thing? I just have the 50 that they give you to start with, and haven't used it yet.

I've almost got all the basic gear up to max. I did a couple of those void things? Gave a ton of XP, then realized that I didn't have artifacts or whatever they are called and was worried I was dicking over other players by even being there.

re:the booster, then I must just have the one. It's only got a few hours left on it, so I guess that's that.

I have the twitch prime warframe that I'll probably move to next? Does maxing out weapons or warframes provide any bonus, or is it just for completion/power sake? I'm assuming I'll have to go back to the super low level stuff if I switch?

The main way most of us come by platinum is either the 50%+ discounts or by selling things to other players.

You can shout into the maelstrom of trade chat... or use websites. The main one is warframe.market and it's fairly easy to flip things. Or just pile up stuff from relics and sell in bulk, people are always buying at around 10p for 5 commons (to melt it into ducats for Baro's biweekly shop of goodies)

Leveling anything (warframes, weapons, followers, anything really) for the first time (you can do things a second time to make them better later on) gives you mastery - mastery goes up by ranks, and higher ranks give you access to different gear, and a few other quality of life things. That's the number in the top left. Probably currently a 1 or 2 for you.

When doing the relic things, just pretend you're doing a normal mission and make it a point to grab 10 of those dna-looking symbols that are dropped from the gold enemies. Space mom will tell you when you've "opened the relic". If you don't have 10, kill more gold enemies until you do. You can see the number.. I think in the top left?

You aren't screwing anyone over, by the way. The game is designed to make it hard to hinder other people's experience in any significant way.

If he dosn't have a relic as he said he is kinda screwing people over ;) BUT the good news is relics are easy to comeby, as they drop from any endless mission (interception/excavation/survival/defense) and there are some easy ones on earth!

As for feeling like "nothing you're doing matters", the game is very incremental. Small changes now make big changes later easier to accomplish. If you're having fun, you're playing the game correctly, but I wouldn't spend too much time 'farming' for experience or endo or anything else except maybe specific mods (and as mentioned, people in the guild will often help with that). The thing that will give you the most 'progress' is working your way through the quests and the junctions between worlds.
