What is Anthem?

Anthem is an upcoming third person sci-fi-action-adventure-co-op-shared-world game being developed by Bioware and published by EA. The release date for the game is presently set to be March 2019.

In Anthem you play the role of a Freelancer—the pilots of a set of mecha suits known as Javelin—who protect a hub of humanity that occupy a place known as Fort Tarsis. Freelancers are a splintered remnant of the original order of Javelin pilots known as the Legion of Dawn. The game takes place on a planet known as [Bioware has not released the name of the planet yet], which was forged by a race/"gods" known as the Shapers who have long since vanished. The evidence of their existence, Shaper Relics, can be used to control a force called the "Anthem of Creation." This is what you protect as you explore this world.

The primary enemy of the Freelancers are the Dominion, who are either another faction entirely or the remnant of whatever schism that caused the Freelancers to come to be. They seek to use the Shaper Relics as weapons. There is another faction seeking to use this power known as the Scars and of course local flora and fauna that also wants to kill you.

How does Anthem play?

Other notes:
  • Players of any level will be able to play together, the game will scale. Players will get loot appropriate for their level.
  • You will be able to fully customize both your pilot and your Javelin(s). You are not locked to a specific mech.
  • Custom colors that you acquire will be reusable.

Additional information about the game will be added as it becomes available.

Here are 135 responses to questions about the game as answered by Bioware's executive producer Mark Darrah.
