hey can i just say i really like the videos Trump does where he looks back at his pre-expansion card reviews, and then later goes back and looks back at those lookbacks? i think it's a fun way to look at how the meta changes, even if trump himself does not have the best sense of the meta

I've been playing deathstar's deathrattle/cube hunter for a few weeks, and I continue to be amazed by how it can pull wins out of its ass. Slight misplay on my last turn there by not playing the tracking first (or at all), but I was too busy thinking through the rest of the play.

Wait, August 7th release date? Hearthstone hasn't had a Tuesday expansion release in at least a couple years, right? I think they've been on a Thursday release pace for a good while now. I wonder if this will be an exception or if they're moving toward the Blizzard/industry standard Tuesday release.

I would imagine it's a Tuesday release because the following Tuesday is BFA launch, and that just gives them a bit of extra time to be handling any Hearthstone server issues while prepping the WoW servers. Give the guys a weekend before the hellscape.

It is, but on the other hand dropping oakheart wins games with astonishing frequency. There is just nothing like it as far as powerswings on turn 5-9, and your chances of arranging that can be very good.

it's the sort of card that just shouldn't be printed because either you don't respect it and it breaks, or you do respect it and it warps design space around it

That's how it should work, but this is the exact opposite of how Blizzard thinks. Blizzard just seems to go "Is it cool? Yes? Print it!"

Agreed, and it's entirely possible that finding and playing an Oakheart with the right pieces is simply too easy to execute. But, win-rates for high cost individual cards have to be taken with a grain of salt. If it has a high win rate, and the deck also has a high win rate - or - if the card leads to an "unfun" play pattern then it can certainly be a problem. But win rate alone isn't enough to tell the whole story.

I prefer the model of printing high power cards with the risk of them being 'broken' as opposed to being too timid to print anything good at all. I've played games that have cycled through the two models and I much prefer having shiny new toys to do cool things with, which is much, much easier to do when you can create powerful cards.

if you're wondering how the deck gets value out of the Meat Wagon summon, the wagon pulls Summoning Portal which then lets you start popping off big summons early, or a bunch of 1-mana echo Phantom Militia

Jaraxxus is definitely more for the memes in that deck -- he can lead to some shenanigans because he's discounted by the summoning portal. If you don't have him, just put Gul'dan in the list or just add 1 copy of some 3 drop that does funny things if you've got Glinda and a Summoning Portal up.

4 Heal Zoos in a row is fucking exhausting. The only thing worse is having the streak being broken by Shudderwock Shaman.

I've never felt this way before, but I might stop playing Hearthstone if that deck continues to remain a thing. Something has to be done as it's the most unfun and non-interactive deck I've faced since Freeze Mage...a deck which I would rather play 100 times in a row before Shudderwock.

I'd say it's likely that Shudder is played much less next expac, not because it'll be any weaker, but because Druid will severely outclass it as as combo deck.

I feel like 70% of the time it's really bad, and 30% of the time it's amazing.

It kinda feels like snake trap? It's cheaper and in a better class for finding and playing secrets, but there's been many times in hearthstone where it's possible to totally ignore the creatures your opponent plays - effectively making this a lost card.

Obviously works well with taunts, if there's a paladin deck that wants that kind of effect.

Not commenting on the effectiveness of the deck, but it seems strange to classify a deck based around playing non-charge minions that wait until next turn to attack face or trade as "non-interactive."

If you played it with "GET DOWN!" you end up with a 2/1 with Divine Shield who takes the hit and stays on the board. Takes 2 cards to do, so not strictly better than Wandering Monster but pretty good.

I'd guess that the interactions depend on the order you played those secrets, though.

Part of why Snake Trap is bad is Hunter's tendency to not run taunt. Paladin runs lots of taunts.

Paladin secrets will always have the problem of being unplayable without being heavily cheated out. They take up precious card slots better used for other cards.

Even though Mysterious Challenger Paladin was amazing, it really relied on the power of Shielded Minibot and Muster for Battle to win.

Because the attacking face and trading isn't the goal of the deck at all, it's to just play those minions. Which is something you can't stop them from doing. The only way you stop them, at all, is to kill their face before Shudderwock comes out.
