MVP is meaningless. Played a game where I got it, and wasn't even the top earner in any category. Someone else had top earner in three stats. That guy was robbed, f'real.

Of course it is.
It was literally the HotS team looking at Overwatch at the time and going "that's cool. can we do that in our game? let's do that in our game. kk cool cool cool" without even a second thought as to how they'd actually implement it. They just haphazardly slapped it in on the side and called it a day.
The initial implementation was even worse, to the point of people complaining about it. They made a few small tiny tweaks to it and then left it to rot again. Most people still don't vote, especially since you can skip it now. And the way it selects people to put on the screen is all fucked up, the algorithms make no goddamn sense.
I dunno. Sometimes I like other people dooting me and it makes me feel appreciated, but man the implementation is wack. But no one's complaining about it anymore so they're not even gonna glance in its direction again.

I had my best game ever with Genji, got all kinds of dashing resets and finished my quest early and kept the pressure on.
Didn't even card but my team said they woulda voted for me afterwards : P
Brings my all time Genji record to a WHOPPING 5-18 : D

Yeah, it's tough when you have to put in a lot of work to get good with a difficult hero, because you're going to lose a bunch of matches to get there. And then when you finally feel confident enough to play that hero at a competitive level, everyone will look at your record and be like, "you suck with genji play someone you're good with".
I like it, too. It's fun to see who got cards for what, even if it doesn't matter at all.
Yeah I mean, don't get me wrong, I like it also. I think it's a fun thing, it's nice to be appreciated and appreciate others. I always doot!! Never skip!!
I just meant that there are still improvements that need to be made to it. Sometimes it still feels weird, especially when someone shows up on the screen with, yknow, a Pity Award. Even though you KNOW that they (or you!!) did much better than the Pity Award suggests.
Some of the awards don't even merit being an award, like "Escaped death X times" like bruhhh come on.
I think it'd better if it just took the 5 best players in that match, showed their stats, had better awards. I dunnoooo.
I like it, I just want it to be better than it is.

Oh no, I still suck as Genji. I just happened to have a singular game where everything clicked decently.

This is gonna sound dumb, but I always feel like I need to hold on to my doot in case someone doots me. Because if I just get the one doot, it looks like I'm just dooting myself. So if someone doots me, I need to doot myself to prove that somebody else dooted me and that I'm not just dooting myself.... But consequently I am dooting myself! Ahhhhhhhhhh!

I would love it if they implemented the old Goldeneye style awards. Some 'Highest Damage' and 'Best Tank' awards, but also 'Most Cowardly' and 'Mostly Harmless'.

That sounds neat and all, then you remember how toxic MOBA communities are and giving out awards like that is likely to incite dickery instead of camaraderie

Yeah, that would not be treated as "good fun" and would entirely be used as justification for abuse.
So my suggestion is to make all the cards stuff like that, but only for custom matches :P
I only doot other people because I can't doot myself
Can confirm.
Also see: Attacking heroes instead of core to inflate damage numbers.
Look, if the Core is gonna die in the next 5 seconds and there's no way for the other team to come back, there's no reason for me NOT to spend an extra 5 seconds inflating my stats. Don't @ me
look bruh if i can get my merc camp award bumped from 11 to 12 when my team is wailing on the fuckin core u best kno i'm doin thos mercs........................
I'm curious as to what the thresholds are for the various rewards.
Sometimes you see a merc award, sometimes you don't, when obviously a lot of games have mercs.
Sometimes you see a silence award, generally when there's a hero with long-silence abilities (stukov / alarak).
These feel weird at times because no other hero could have gotten the award.. so it was more of a self-competitive award rather than competing vs others.

I assume they each get translated to a single universal score. Then the top five highest score with no dupes get shown

i just love getting a shithead mal'ganis on my team that dives in 1v5 and immediately goes out of my heal range and dies
and we lose the first obj because of that
and he calls early gg
and then calls us "fucking noobs"
and then just stands in top lane doing nooooooooothing all fucking game
and i report him
and i requeue
...
and he's in my fucking game again ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS
i grit my teeth and kept playing though but i got 13 minutes in before i just couldn't take it anymore and quit out. our hanzo ragequit, our thrall is running in and facetanking lightning breath, everyone was yelling, our mal'ganis was practically fucking inting, nope. nope. wasn't gonna stick around for that.

For how OP Mal'ganis is, there are a ton of shitty Mal'ganis players.
Dibby weren't you taking a break? I mean, don't get me wrong, I generally love your posts about your games, but just for your own mental health and enjoyment
Anyways though, I think you can open a whisper with them, and then not say anything, but watch in your chat window for when they enter a game. Just to make sure you don't requeue immediately into the same person.

Uh, yeah, I already took a break. I came back after about 5 days, was enjoying the game a lot again.
I went 4-1 yesterday, it was great!!
My mental health and enjoyment are fuckin' fine.
So I logged in today, I played exactly two games as Whitemane, and they were fucking abysmal.
Like I can accept normal losses, I just can't fucking handle when I get some fucking shithead 12 year old who calls early ggs, calls us "fucking noobs", and then AFKs/ints the entire rest of the game. And then gets paired with me the next game. By some fucking stroke of twisted fucked up un-luck. THAT set me off. I'm fine otherwise.
Yknow, like, it's no wonder people have no faith in the reporting system. It doesn't fucking do anything.
I'm generally a pleb enough that there are enough players on my level that I don't see the same person twice in a row :P
My MMR is high enough that I wouldn't have expected to immediately run into this same guy again. I thought, man, no way. Just a fluke, right. Has to be a fluke.

Specifically it seems to weight time spent dead (wish send correct to me), as in, late game deaths are penalized a lot more than early deaths.

We only have Blizzard to blame because there's a reward for camping, not core.

If nothing else, it's fun to gloat/make fun of myself when I get MVP or am the only blue team member excluded from the screen, even if it's arbitrary.
