Definitely better on an SMG than others. Probably solid for PVE for Heavy reloads. Just was hoping for Zen Moment or Kill Clip. But who knows, maybe could do some work.
And Random Rolls already has appeal. Ooof

The lore is DEEP in this expansion. I feel like I haven't even scratched the surface on the lore surrounding what will likely be the endgame. So I was surprised that there is even some crazy lore being pieced together about the Drifter:
Shortly after the collapse, the Ghosts started reviving people. Without the vanguard or even the idea of a "Guardian", they were called "The Risen". With Humanity scattered and resources thin, humans did what they always do. They fought. Some of the Risen became Warlords. Wresting control over the surviving humans like old feudal lords. Light fought the light ferociously until the Iron Lords and later The Guardians stood for humanity as a whole.
The drifter is one of those light-wielders, he is NOT a guardian.
Now, let's talk about The Drifter and his lore found in The Ancient Apocalypse gear you can find all of it and its lore here. He raids Vanguard shipments for guns and talks fondly of the guns of the dark age that were more efficient at killing the light.
No one made Dark Age guns anymore. Drifter had looked far and wide. The one source of Dark Age weaponry in this system was him. Gambit.
Dark Age weapons had been forged at a time when Light fought Light. Everything was just a little more efficient back then. And lethal. In Drifter's opinion, of course.
And he's really into the dark and how it can be used to snuff out the light
Turns out one'a those creatures just slithered by, and close proximity to it from inside our shelter just… silenced that poor bastard's Light.
It was unfortunate, but it also lit a fire under us. The next morning, we realized we had a potential weapon on our hands that could change everything in battles of Light versus Light.
After the heist he confronts the guardians he brought with him. The guardians are having second thoughts and are not fond of the damage Drifter had wrought to the tower Redjacks. He sits them down and shows them A Mote Of Dark
He pulled a Mote of Dark out of his pocket. It glowed coldly. "Think about how many Motes of Light you've collected over your lifetime. A lot, right?"
"I miss my Mythoclast," Joxer said. Drifter could hear the frown in his voice.
"Yeah, you had a Mythoclast! And still the Cabal took the Tower. The Light failed you. Failed me, too."
Drifter held the Mote of Dark up to them. "This, though. It's something special. I made 'em. And you've seen the things you can do when you find even a handful of 'em. Think long and hard about it." Drifter slung the launcher back on his shoulder and turned to leave without looking back.
"Stick with me long enough, and I'll show you what the dark can really do."
When the Cabal shut off our light, he even murdered 3 guardians.. His ghost's light is described as "Red as a Vex Eye", and those motes of dark? Well... what they do is terrifying
Drifter shook his head. "You're not gonna fight me. I like to watch," he says and keys the Mote of Dark in his hand.
An unearthly howl filled his ears and he cursed. He never quite got used to it. The sky turned a shade of fiery green and split in half.
Nine creatures that Guardians would know as Primevals stepped onto the sand of the Emerald Coast, out of place—impossible, massive, and wrong.
The Drifter's smile was all teeth.
Now, with all of this said, it's clear that he is NOT on our side. The things he's doing with the darkness are terrifying, and he's using Gambit, through it US, to manufacture his darkness. He's seen throughout our lore cards to be clearly ruthless, disdainful of the Vanguard and Guardians in general, and with no reverence for the light even he holds. There's an element of horror in being so close and friendly with a character who's blatantly falling to the darkness. This'll be a fun year eh?
TLDR: The Drifter is not what he seems, plays with The Darkness, and is certainly not on our side.
I feel like they are pulling inspiration from Stephen King and the Dark Tower and I am geeking out so hard right now.

The implications regarding characters
we've grown attached too are deeply disturbing. Lovecraftian even
When Forsaken comes out, the thread will move at pages at a time and be basically unusable. Gonna make it hard to come back and check on these spoilers...
Edit: And don't discuss the implications of spoilers outside of spoilers, come the fuck on...
So I hear there's going to be added content on this game that will make D2 a lot like No Man's Sky. Anyone know if it's worth picking up in the future as a pc player, or is this game dead in the water?

Destiny is nothing like No Man's Sky. If you mean "add a lot to it", sure. That is happening with Forsaken. And the game is not at all dead, no.

Yes. He runs Gambit, the new game mode. He seems to be using it to manufacture Motes of Dark for some unknown purpose.

Yeah, thats the Drifter. He's the guy that basically runs Gambit.
As far as what THE Dark is, we still don't know. The Hive aren't The Dark, so the whole Sword Space thing wouldn't be relevant here, I don't think. It literally sounds like he's tapped into the actual Darkness, which is the thing that is the direct opposition to the Light and the Traveler. And he's both trying to tempt us into using the Darkness as well as using us as a testing/breeding ground for the Darkness in Gambit.

Regarding Fallen and Hive biology as it pertains to one of the prison escapees
Apparently one of these assholes took a hive wizard as his consort. They even have a son and shit. Haha I don't know if that's gross or rad. It's definitely metal as hell.

I thought it was generally accepted that the Hive Worms' power, drawn from the Deep, is what 'Dark' refers to in the context of sources of power? 'The Darkness' as an entity is still unknown, unless it's the Worms themselves, but I thought the Hive had access to Sword Space via the opposite of Light. That being why the Worms hate the Traveler, 'cause they're opposites or whatever.
Which would make Toland another Guardian who messed with using Dark instead of Light.

We don't know if thee ascendant realm is specifically a Dark thing. But yeah, the worms are direct servants of the Darkness as far as we know and use that power and thus so do the Hive.

I've been not opening spoiler tabs but I broke down and opened this one.
Is Drifter the dude from the various trailers flipping jade coins and running Gambit? And is the 'dark' of which he's manufacturing motes the Dark? I assume so since the description of what happens when he uses one sounds an awful lot like he opened a tear into Sword Space...
My recollection of the Books of Sorrow is rusty but I'm pretty sure the Hive lifecycle had Thralls developing into either Knights or Mothers, prior to Oryx and his sisters bonding the Worms. They didn't have any form of magic paracausal agency, so the ability to create Throne Worlds and so forth would have been purely a mechanism of their access to the Worms' power. And I believe Quira the Blade Transform gained the ability to open tears as well, didn't it? Which would imply that it's just a function of harnessing energy from the Deep.

A good idea, but I don't think it supports special characters, and I'd prefer something more "serious" I suppose

This seems like the point to come back for me, again.
I heard dem shoulder charges oneshot now huh? Grenades were buffed in Crucible? I guess I need to list again. Cautiously excited.
Grenades - any oneshots? Do stickies oneshot again?
Where do I start as a Returning player from before Raid Lairs?
Should I buy the existing DLC/season pass for must have gear?
Also uh, does anyone play duos locally with an SO? Let's pretend I have 2 consoles, two TVs, one internet router, and one copy of the game digitally. Do I buy a 2nd copy for the 2nd person? Do they just piggyback off my gamertag? Is there such a thing as two separate guardians on one console acct?
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

Shoulder charges do OHK, I believe. Dunno about grenades.
In order to play Forsaken (which launches on Tuesday next week) you have to own both of the Y1 DLCs as well as purchasing Forsaken itself. The Crucible meta is a bit all over the place right now due to all the changes that happened the other day. It will be even more all over the place come Tuesday.
You can have three guardians on one console account. You can use the same console account on multiple consoles. I do not believe it is possible to use the same account simultaneously on different consoles to play the same game. So in your situation you'd need to own D2 on two different accounts to play with one another.

At one point, this was true generally but I'm unsure if it still is. Weirdly it was basically the same on Xbox and PS.
When you digitally "buy" a game it will be linked to your gamertag and to the console it is purchased on. 99% of the time this is irrelevant but in situations like yours it means you could go to your SO's console, put your gamertag on it, buy the digital game, then use your gamertag on the other console and play there.
SO's console: Anybody can play the game.
Your console: Have to be logged into your account to play the game.
This is all very YMMV as I haven't screwed around with it in quite some time. I believe it was true at least at the beginning of this generation, not sure if it has changed.
Edit: Oh, Live/PSN worked basically the same way. You'll definitely need different gamertags though. On PS side if the "owner" account on a console has PS+ all the other accounts there do as well.

Yeah, it's just like, will the two consoles be able to play Destiny together in the same fireteam, for example?
If my account has XBL Gold, and hers doesn't, but it's "tied" to my Gold, will it allow us both to play together?
My fear is that I get two Gold subs, two copies of the game and we still cant play together because XBL doesnt let two accounts from same IP play simultaneously.
To clarify, are there guns/gear from Osiris/Warmind that are must haves, or do I not need them and I just buy Forsaken and I'm up to date?

Nobody can say for sure but outside exotics it looks a whole lot like all the guns/gears from Y1 are going to be completely irrelevant going forward. There are maybe four legendaries that might still be worthwhile but one is impossible to get now and the other three shouldn't be going away (The Escalation Protocol guns.)
Maybe test out the XBL thing with another online game. There has got to be a host of free but need Live to play games on Xbox if it is anything like PS4.
That exclusive armor actually makes me think that they're doing it to make the community happy, i.e., "Don't tell Sony, but we made the exclusive stuff really horribly ugly so that all of us - PlayStation, Xbox, PC - can laugh about it together and consign it to the trash heap of history."
Edit: Also, I didn't think the angular red-and-black SIVA armor was much better than this lame look, for the record.
Iron Banner shit is what I want all great Destiny armor to look like. Space Knights and Moon Wizards. Not low-budget Tron.

Definitely better on an SMG than others. Probably solid for PVE for Heavy reloads. Just was hoping for Zen Moment or Kill Clip. But who knows, maybe could do some work.
And Random Rolls already has appeal. Ooof
With a slew of new items and their lore tabs up in the database, we can read into The Drifter a bit. I don't think he is what he seems, he may even have been one of the Warlords of the Dark Age.
And he's really into the dark and how it can be used to snuff out the light
After the heist he confronts the guardians he brought with him. The guardians are having second thoughts and are not fond of the damage Drifter had wrought to the tower Redjacks. He sits them down and shows them A Mote Of Dark
When the Cabal shut off our light, he even murdered 3 guardians.. His ghost's light is described as "Red as a Vex Eye", and those motes of dark? Well... what they do is terrifying

I doubt it’ll be a hidden part of this release (but maybe? That’d be an awesome hype machine for a few weeks into this season to drop )
But maybe next year or in one of the seasons this year?

Some phenomenally shitty armor and a void flavor of Coldheart.
The interaction with orbs of light sounds cool but that seems a bit much for a year long exclusive.
