The Bit.Trip people are making a fucking Bubsy game.

This really is the worst timeline.

It rules you have to unlock most of the characters in Smash, I'm so glad that's still a thing.

I would honestly assume that the Bit.Trip folks could make a decent Bubsy game.

Why they would make a Bubsy game of all things I don’t know. They probably picked up the rights for a buck and were like “Fuckin’ why not?”

I think that in the specific case of Smash it makes for a better game, but it is generally super obnoxious in other fighting games, and it would be nice if they had a mode in Smash for tournament organizers that unlocked all the characters immediately

That Bubsy game just looks like a reskinned Bit.Trip Runner, so it'll probably competent at the very least.

Re: Smash, if I were them I'd release a Master Hand amiibo for $20 that unlocks all characters when used.

I like it and hate it because I kind of suck at smash
It doesn't help I get frustraited put it down come back after a time my skills have disappeared and the computer assumes I still was a tad above crap
The advice I have bene given just pick someone and get good which I feel doesn't help

If people are gonna keep calling Amiibo physical dlc might as well actually do something to justify it I guess

Finished Wandersong, what a wonderful, emotional journey.

    Ending spoilers
Part of me hoped that The Hero would redeem herself, but alas. I respect the developer for going in that direction - that bit of bitterness makes the sweetness of everything else more enjoyable. The Mountain Bird segment is definitely on of my favourite gaming moments in recent history. And the heart-to-hearts between The Bard and Miriam about why they act the way they do definitely struck a cord.

There's also a cool secret in the credits

    Hint:
Check out around The Bard's house before going to sleep at the end. What you'll see will be relevant for Chapter 1 in the same spot.

    Answer:
Recruit the bird and head to the left, stand still in the middle of the secret area and a constellation will appear. Take a screenshot, then use this key

and sing the password to the cat in Chapter 1 in the same spot.

In conclusion, I give this game 10 dances out of 10.

It always annoyed me that Melee didn’t unlock everything if you booted it without any memory cards in the system. It’s a terrible failure mode if you don’t a working memory card.

Hey, about that. Would you mind spoiling me on what actually happens if you do that last thing? I got there, tried my damnedest to follow the instructions, and never got it to work. At this point I don't feel like sitting through the credits for a third time just to take another stab at it and I couldn't find it on YouTube either.

Well, it depends what you want.

Castlevania 1 and 3 are hard. Fucking hard. Even by bullshit NES hard standards. It requires a lot of careful, patient thinking.

Castlevania 4 is much easier for a number of reasons. Your whip just does everything you could ever need.

Symphony of the Night is when they entered the Metroidvania type and is widely considered a classic. Based on the systems you mentioned, I think it's the only one of that type available. Most of the rest are for the DS.

I have heard that Rondo of Blood is the best of the original Castlevania offerings in many respects. I have also heard that it is as hard as balls.

    Don't play castlevania 2.

I do think Castlevania 2 is notable at least for the fact that it tried such a weird thing. Did it succeed? Not at all. But it's neat that they tried.

    pls no

but yeah most of the above is correct. if you have a ps4 the sotn/rondo collection offers what is considered the best of the classic and post ps1 era games (rondo is easily one of my top 5 games of all time)

if you have a gba/ds most of the games on those were very good and followed in sotn's footsteps. Though they are somewhat valuable and hard to come by

most of the 3d console ones are bad but lament of innocence is solid imo and lords of shadow 1 is also pretty ok but those are more character action games

The thing to remember when playing original flavor Castlevania games (except 4) is that the subweapons all have uses. Yes, the cross is a straight up better version of the knife, but you don't always want to use it, even though it is the highest damage thing usually. The Axe has an arc to hit people above you, and the water hits things below you. Considering that your whip only goes to the left or the right in a short distance, having the correct subweapon to cover your shortcomings is essential.

It's probably also notable for inspiring Symphony of the Night and, by extension, Metroidvanias as a genre. (Weirdly enough, SotN was more influenced by CV2 and Zelda than Metroid. There was an interview about it somewhere, IIRC, and it kind of blew my mind at the time.)

Nonlinearity and RPG elements are really inspiring, I guess. It's kind of nuts how they returned to a Zelda 2-esque experimental sequel years later and went "alright, can we do this again but good this time?" and then it was great and redefined the franchise.

Unlocking characters in a fighting game is just the worst in the modern era. I want to play as these characters. Don't make me do shit that isn't "Playing the characters I want to play with my friends" in order to use the characters I want to use.

Like, the single player mode of these things is an extra at best. The trials from Melee were fun and target practice shit can be cool, but having to slog through all the modes to do little things or even repeatedly doing the arcade mode and beating Master Hand 50 times is fuckin too much, man.

other notable exception there is the bible in rondo

its pretty busted and does some unintended things on bosses where you can get the curse debuff, slowing down all its active hitboxes

In this day and age, where every character is announced before a game comes out, it's just like, give me the characters. I know they're there, why are you making me work for it?

But back when Melee came out and I was playing it for the first time, I had no idea about the characters. Whenever one showed up it was genuinely surprising and exciting. Fighting them was stressful because I wanted to unlock them and was scared I'd fail. Then you do unlock them and it felt like a real accomplishment.

So if, somewhere in the world, there's a kid who picks up the game, not having any clue about the roster, and is genuinely surprised when they see an Inkling or their husbando Chrom, then I'm okay with them keeping unlockable characters. Because that shit was cool.

If you play any of the handheld games don't start with Circle of the Moon or Order of Ecclesia. They're both quite good, but both are quite hard even by castlevania standards. Especially Circle of the Moon. It might be the hardest "new-type" Castlevania game.

Just picked up Night in the Woods at 40% off, I've heard a lot about this game and looking forward to playing through it with my wife. There's not a lot of actual difficult platforming or anything is there? Thinking of leaving the controller in her hands, but if she starts getting frustrated we may not make it through.
