My group is fairly casual we're all just a bunch of friends having fun so we're not going to be busting the end boss down on week one but we did go 3/8 tonight with only 3 wipes and i got a staff off the chimera guy who was probably the easiest boss ever?
Not perfect for Shadow but it replaced seabreeze which i depressingly found out that the proc sounds nicer then it is.
I run a lot of island expeditions with Pugs and i have to say it baffles me over these reasons.
1.So many people outright ignore the "Eruption event." It's like 2.5-3k azerite ripe for the taking and the NPC calls it out but nope we're going to just ignore it and kill non-elites
2.STOP STANDING IN SHIT OH MY GOD THAT 10 SECOND CAST 1-SHOTS YOU MOVE OUT OF IT.
3.I am a shadow priest i can barely keep myself alive don't screech at me for not keeping you alive through 1-shots
On a side note, if you're going to try to fill your Conquest bar, make sure to do the Brawl. The Something Different quest also rewards like 60-odd Conquest for finishing it, plus you get the normal 40 from the First Win of the Day.
And the weapon reward on the bar actually has a display bug, it's actually a il345 weapon, not 280.

Thanks for the tip on faction rep! I had just enough WQ left to finish off Highmountain and I think I'm almost done with the quest chain now.
edit: so yeah...turns out doing the Highmountain quest chain on a separate character who doesn't have the flight points unlocked makes you do a lot of walking.
it's like they forgot that the reason they put junk weapons for transmog purposes on raid loot tables in legion was because of artifact weapons, and not because junk transmog weapons dropping is inherently desirable and fun

Did transmog weapons exist before Legion? Because I'm guessing that was also part of the problem: Legion transmog weapons came at the "right" ilvl for the raid. It wasn't necessary to down-level them because of artifact weapons.

I even levelled with my Taeshalach, it was a higher ilvl than my artifact post squish.
My best group was me, a disc priest and a warlock for island expedition. Me and the priest started out, and the warlock went out to God knows where. But apparently, he was mining all the safe nodes while we took out the bigger nodes. Won with a 5k advantage.

blood DK makes islands a relative joke, as they're the only tank spec that can essentially fully self sustain, so you can just take a blood DK and two DPS and do massive pulls. We usually finish a Heroic island in 4 total pulls, maybe 5 if we get rough luck on mob spawns and end up with a ton of casters which you can't safely mass pull.
My guild beat Uldir on normal to night after getting stuck on Mythrax for 2 hours previously
Kinda sucks that the last two bosses have a higher ramp up in difficulty but doesn't drop anything more interesting and/or higher in ilevel
Also no tier set kinda blows because technically the entire raid could have taken those two hours wiping on Mythrax and go do M+ for more gear of the same quality. Don't get me wrong, I liked spending some time on interesting encounters but if you're just playing to win, M+ dungeons are the way to go it seems

that's why very few top guilds (I'm pretty none of the top ten) have cleared Heroic yet.

I'm sure it will. If they notice that none of the top guilds are clearing Uldir, they're going to want to know why.
This seems like yet another not fully thought out implementation. Add it to the stack.

Fetid Devourer alone is night and day on heroic compared to normal. Can't even imagine the jump for the last two.
Woke up early this morning. Decided to pass time before work by doing a few daily quests. I did a quest that gave me gloves that Titanforged up to 355.
Yay!
Except that I had gotten Existence-Shattering Gauntlets yesterday off of Warbringer Yenajz, at the same ilevel, and they have Haste.
On the bright side, the Veiled Crystal meant that I was able to enchant my weapon, so that's nice.
So much stuff to do on my main this weekend. Churn through more of the "Oh right, Jaina" plotline. Churn through more of the 7th Legion war campaign thing and get my fifth follower. Get 7th Legion up to Revered and get some new boots. Try to remember where to go to do island expeditions (there was an NPC in the harbor, right? I seem to recall that, but beyond that have no clue who to speak to). Do more of the Warfront thing once Horde finally takes over and I can queue (I need to wait for Horde to take over, right? I fought a boss and did a bunch of quests that gave me War Resources and a 340 weapon, but I can't queue for anything). And then I want to go back to Pandaria and start trying to unlock the White Tiger sets for transmog purposes.
And then continue leveling my Lightforged Priest (84 and counting, working my way through Panda-land) and my Void Elf Monk (22 and counting - I'm toying around with "no kills" leveling, using gathering skills and pet quests for XP).
I'll say this for WOW, there's always more to do.

It's not about them being unable to. It's just not worth the time when M+ is easier and drops gear that is essentially just as good. Without tier sets, what purpose does a raid serve?
My guild is stepping into Mythic day one next week, so the only purpose this week serves for us is gearing two characters per raider so that we are ready for the tuning pass that comes. We haven't gone any further than 5/8 Heroic because it's less time efficient to try to progress the heroic bosses for a handful of gear pieces when we could split the whole raid up and get half a dozen M+s done in that prog time.

I want to level up to see the horde side of the story, but the idea of working on reps/WQs/heart level again sound kind meh. Maybe I'll wait for the first patch and see if anything major happens.

You will get honorbound pretty easily. Do the islands over a week. Just do some dailies for gear you want. You don't have to grind it that much. I got revered with them just kind of doing it piecemeal and making sure I do my island weekly quest in like two weeks.

I think after this week I'm walking away from the game for awhile. With no tier set or interesting gear or anything, there's no real incentive to raid once you've seen all the content, and raiding was the one thing I was looking forward to keeping me engaged.
So far, this is a real wet fart of an expansion. I don't know how we went from how good Legion was to this!
The fact that they thought players would be excited by super generic and non-interesting traits on Azerite gear was a major error in their planning.
Azerite armor is super dumb. They should have held back some of the best traits (or actually they should have created some better traits) that are raid-only traits.
Finding a piece of 355 Azerite armor with the same generic traits that my 280 quest armor has from Vol'dun is a letdown. A major letdown.
Not to mention class sets lend to class identity and are a fun thing to collect. Collecting generic pieces of gear that everyone else in your same armor class wears is not fun or interesting at all.
We already have a situation where Rogues, Monks, Druids, DH all look the same, Priests, Mages Warlocks all look the same, and so forth.
They went from maximum class identity in Legion to worst class identity in the history of the game.
The only other time we had the similarity between classes for armors was in Wrath during the Tournament I think right? Those sets at least made some sense in the game at that point in time (even if a giant tournament right before we go to fight the Lich King may not have made sense).
I loved Legion BECAUSE of the difference in stories between my different classes and just how everything made you feel involved as whatever class you were.
BfA started off strong with a good leveling experience, but the max level experience thus far is really not well done.
Azerite traits just feel like a half ass attempt at re-implementing old school talent trees, tbh.

The incentive to raid has always been just to face challenges with friends. If your only goal is to see it, there has been a remarkably easy path toward that for a while now and legion was no different.
I still think this is a great expansion. I think if you came back to wow hoping to be enthralled for a long time like you never were before you either never played a single other expansion, or have selective memory. The first few weeks to a month tend to be loved by a large amount of players, but you kind of have to love monotony to play any mmo beyond that and wow still is that type of game
I think Uldir is awesome and still look forward to running it without hoping to be fully geared to the teeth in a week.
Also with regards to raid gear, are tall accounting for how strong that matrix aspect of the azerite power on uldir pieces is gonna be?
The moral of BFA is that in war, we are all the same. We the proletariat are all turned into faceless soldiers for the capitalist oligarchs to die on a meaningless muddy field in the Arathi Highlands over and over again. Meanwhile, the petty bourgeoisie pretends that this war is normal and necessary. Down with the war-mongering leaders! Raiders of the world unite!

Doesn't really matter how strong it is, it's just Concordance again and thus boring.
They went from maximum class identity in Legion to worst class identity in the history of the game.
I think it's 100% fair to say that a huge desire for this expansion was to focus on faction identity instead of class identity, probably in the hopes that they could do for faction identity what they did for class identity.
That M+ continues to cannibalize raiding is also a problem I think. It's great that it's another way for players to engage in progression, but it feels like it was just tacked on as an afterthought, which it kinda was, and it doesn't have remotely the same systemic support, making it an awful experience to PUG. (i.e. LFR, mechanical tuning, etc.)
Azerite armor is super dumb. They should have held back some of the best traits (or actually they should have created some better traits) that are raid-only traits.
There actually are raid-only traits, Laser Matrix and Archive of the Titans immediately come to mind - Laser Matrix is really good for casters at least. They also provide a small passive stat buff that's active while in Uldir.
However they're still generic boring stat/damage procs.
They should've just swapped to a consumable version of tier sets that you apply to gear. Rune of the First Raid Tier Warrior or something like that. They only drop via raiding, and the reforging ethereal can remove them but it scraps the item. Donezo.
I got a piece with Archive of the Titans. Also has reorgination matrix or something effect that you unlock after 3 or 4 boss kills. Gives me 70 of your second highest stat while in Uldir. So useless after this tier and the actual Archive of the Titans perk isn't super compelling apparently.
So the latency problem has finally gone away in Arathi. Ran around doing quests and killing all sorts of 'rare' enemies. It's fun starting a fight (because nobody else will) and seeing TONS of players flock in. I am a leader!
Unfortunately I guess the Alliance 'won' the engagement for now so I can't do the scenario. The Horde has to fill a progress bar that I can see. In the last hour they went from 32% to 32%.
Yup that is my tactic as a warlock. I know my pet can survive long enough for the vultures to notice the boss is being attacked and 5 or 6 dudes parachute onto it to help murder my target haha.

There was a warlock and hunter yesterday I was seeing pretty often at those encounters, and I was healing their pets as they tanked. The only person to do so, mind you, and I'm an enhancement shammy. Everyone else got all "OMG ATTACK."
