I have never lost a fight to conjunctivius because I haven’t gotten to him.

I think there are definitely builds that are better/worse for fighting bosses though
Like, some of my favorite weapons are really bad for fighting bosses - the quick sword and the marksman's bow specifically spring to mind, as you'll have a hell of a time getting their crits to go off, and at that point, you're just left with a boring sword and a slow bow
At that point you're going to need a fair amount more skill at fighting the boss in order to do well against them

I find that more important than gear is just having collected enough stats before a boss
I've had runs where I sped through and didn't get enough stat boosts, and even though I had fantastic gear I just wasn't doing enough damage to Concierge and didn't have any health
I've also had runs where I could essentially stand in his face and kill him without fear of reprisal
I don't know that I have ever lost to concierge, but it definitely gets easier the more I fight him. Like, these days I can beat him with starting sword and board, because his tells are clear and parry is super effective.
I still haven't gotten through the Hand of the King though. It's just hard to get reps when it's so far into the game and the high peak castle is so deadly.
I can't beat Conjunctivius yet but boy oh boy does a double trap + tactics build MELT his stupid tentacles. Just not sure what good weapon combo I need to hurt HIM. Poison Impaler/bow of some kind maybe?

I got to Conjuctivitus for the first time and had a comically awful loadout to try to beat him. Quick bow, front line shield, wolf trap, and slicer. Oof.
The first time I encountered Conjunctivius I steamrolled him and every time since I have had a rough time of it, even if I manage to eke out a victory
I do not remember how I did it the first time
The key to beating him pretty easy is to be able to set the floor on fire easily, then you spend your time dodging the tentacles while they burn to death even underground.
I'm so pissed. I had what some would consider the perfect setup last night.
A Legendary infinite arrows bow that left a trail of fire in its path AND applied oil to its targets + an Ice bow + double crossbow trap + the blade shooting trap. EVERYTHING did 100% more damage to things burning as well and everything was always burning.
Then i hit that motherfucking level where you have to stay in the lit areas, and I swear they increased the distance between them cause i was sweating my ass off to reach the next light globe, and eventually got trapped in the almost darkness and ran into a mob that pingponged me cause i was rushing.
Well it was my first chance at going through the graveyard level and i wanted those juicy blueprints, so i had to then go into that level. i miss that bow. everything was on fire. always. it was glorious.
I did just about the same thing last night, went into the low light level with a colorless marksmans bow and a colorless quick bow, one started fires and the other dropped oil on the ground and they were tucking amazing and I just panicked to death in a corner because I couldn't goddamn see anything!
Fuck this game!
Can't wait to play it some more!!

I found phaser was useful against conjunctivitis, let you dodge past some of his bullet hell attacks (though not the big one). Probably not as effective as a barnacle though.
After learning that after more than 20 scrolls they start to hurt your build more than they are helping you, I started to completely ignore Cursed Chests.

I get the idea of Spartan Sandals and even like them a little in levels with lots of small platforms to kick doofuses off of, but they are easily the worst melee weapon I've found so far.
I've found the Hayabusa boots exactly once, those seem like the good boots, even if you find a good pair of the Spartans they seem totally poop useless against bosses

Spartan sandals are great because the interrupt gives so much breathing room. Pair well with a slow melee weapon.
After learning that after more than 20 scrolls they start to hurt your build more than they are helping you, I started to completely ignore Cursed Chests.
This way is definitely less rage inducing.
Wait, how does this work exactly? I didn’t realize there was a point where scrolls started hindering you

Supposedly every scroll you get strengthens enemies in the next level by 9% dps and 8% health. Hard to find a definitive source if this is the case in the release build. This would mean that if a scroll gives less than 15%dps+3%hp, or 18%hp alone, then by the numbers it would be counterproductive to take. I still take every scroll I can get and put it towards damage, as damage out grows their hp and that's fun, just don't get hit!

I think at least some levels have set scaling, like killing zombies on later stages while collecting no scrolls seems to be more difficult the further you go, especially when you're on alt-path levels.
From what I read, the optimal build Brutality / Tactics / Survival in the context of how much health you can get and how much damage enemies will deal to you is 8 / 7 / 13, which favors investing in Survival items (or just colorless ones).
The real problem is with final boss - he has built in damage reduction, meaning that no matter how much damage you can deal, you will only take 5 % of his health bar at most, while his own damage and health pool grows with each scroll taken, so taking too much of them is acutally punishing to the player, if you plan to defeat him.

I've had some good runs with Spartan Sandals through the first few levels. Kicking them into walls does a lot of damage

Yeah I basically always end with a 1 or 2 in survival.

Okay?
I find him kind of hard to beat sometimes!
What I mean is that losing to him does not mean you are bad
It just means that RNG did not bless you this day

Except against the eye boss because he has no feets
just use it like literally inside him
I'm not hiding behind a shield like a coward. I'm dashing forward in the hopes that I can roll well enough.
I kind of wish there were options to turn off stuff youre just never ever going to use
The devs have been promising some kind of option for about a year, but nothing yet.
WHY
would you open the CURSED chest
you moron
you had ALL THE WEAPONS YOU NEEDED
you were SURROUNDED BY SPIKE TRAPS AND RANGED ENEMIES THAT CAN SHOOT THROUGH WALLS
the chest got you like 3000 gold and 10% health boost and also eternal damnation
one more run

In situations where I'm forced to play quickly I fuck up bad and make basic mistakes

Game is actually less fun using them.
they're very situational
it does a bunch of stun
and you can kick people into walls and off cliffs and that does a bunch of damage
