A pair of turrets, one causing a status effect and the other getting a damage bonus for the same effect, will melt the first two bosses with minimal risk.
It's the teleporting elites with ranged attacks that tend to end my runs.
The final level doesn't fuck around, especially not when you have multiple boss stem cells activated

Noooooooooo, I lost my Death Orb run by getting blown up by some explode asshole in the Clock Tower. His explosions blew me into some spikes on the ceiling which killed me.
Damn, I keep having great runs that come to a screeching halt due to me not knowing things.
Run before this one was interacting with my first cursed treasure chest.
This run was going into some light/dark zone and not being able to figure out the mechanic fast enough and dying. Argh. I had a really solid load out.
My concierge strat: I basically reserve my R2/L2 slots for crowd control, heavily prioritizing freeze. Once the Concierge winds up an attack he won't keep tracking you, so if he is slowed/frozen dodging gets really easy.

Hitting the Concierge mid-jump with a Wolf Trap is hilarious.
He just freezes mid-animation going "Well then. This is my life now."

Having fuck all luck in the Ossuary
I can pretty consistently get up to it no problems, but those giant sworddudes and spindudes can fuck all the way off forever, they have so much health and huge attacks

I want this on the Switch eventually, but I think the reports of slowdown and hitching are enough to get me to wait until they drop a big fat patch on it, likely early next year (They said November at the earliest, but I'm trying to be realistic)
The slowdown isn't that bad, I think! Like it's definitely noticeable but I've never felt it particularly made the game difficult to play? But everyone has their tolerances, so.
Also I just beat the Concierge, basically by using a bear trap + auto crossbow combo.
Also having so much HP that it didn't matter if he hit me too much.

beat the concierge with a shield that does an extra long stun on a parry.

okay for those who don't know: cursed chests give you a pretty good item, but also inflict a status on you which causes you to die if you take any damage
it is not worth it

I've made it work in certain stages with certain loadouts

Made the mistake of opening a cursed chest for the first time in the stilt village after clearing all the enemies
It actually worked out alright, ice grenade plus gold twin blade/gold throwing knife is pretty effective for the clock tower and explosive decoy saved my ass so many times. The boss fight is so very anime
High peak castle is so much bullshit, death was almost a relief
Anyone have any luck with the whip? Afaik it takes too long to kill and never seems to stun
There is one (and only one) thing that I really don't like about this game so far, and it's that weapon swings murdering your aerial momentum sucks and makes slow weapons agony to use. If you can't abuse momentum and animation cancels to totally negate the downsides of a greatsword then can you really call it a 'vania?
I have not played a real game since 3 years but oh boy this game feels so good to play
One thing I am not sure is if I am supposed to slowly clear everything or just blaze through the area as fast as possible

Either strategy is fine, just stick to one or the other.
That said early on I feel like slow clear is better because you have story things to see and stuff to unlock.
They are worth it if you find them during the first or second area and you have crap in your weapon/inventory. It's not that hard to kill 10 mobs from a distance safely with a ranged weapon at least the first 3-4 areas.
Spoiler: I fucking called it, like 9 minutes later.
I had at one point, 1 legendary weapon, one legendary accessory, and 1 colorless weapon and 1 colorless accessory...and 14 points in brutality. still died.

Kick open that chest
The curse only lasts until you kill 10 enemies. so if you find a chest, just look around for an area, leave the easy enemies, kill the dangerous ones, then open the chest and clean up the 10 easy mobs to remove the curse.

last night I finally got to the end of the Ossuary, and thought "oh hold on lemme just look through the rest of this level before I continue" and the short version is I died to something stupid and lost like six blueprints and fifty cells
@Peas well that take double damage affix on the balance blade probably did it. waaaay too dangerous to take that.

masterofmetroidHave you ever looked at a worldand seen it as a kind of challenge?Registered Userregular
The double damage combined with other low health mutations and items is probably how you get those super broken damage numbers that the speed runners crave but i've never been good enough to make use of that sort of thing

the one that doubles damage dealt is good, the one that recovers health is....not so much, imo

Melee is fine for most mooks but for tougher fellas it's really setting yourself up to be murdered

I upgraded this loudout with a V4-L firebrand and then a stomp that left oil, and it pretty much became my "keep them in place and BURN".
Took me all the way to the clock room boss.
Of course I fucked up around a shield dude and that was that

b) this game is still really fucking good.
c) I'm feeling more and more that I just really don't like playing stuff in handheld mode.
Also I just beat the Concierge, basically by using a bear trap + auto crossbow combo.

it is not worth it
But more often than not it'll end a run
If you have anything of value already though its definitely not worth it
Which was cool but the item I got for it didn’t seem suuuper worth it?

Yeah they need to make the cursed chest items better. They're just not worth the risk right now.

That's a mean thing to put at the edges of a boss fight.
I survived the curse but it was nervewracking and I didn't feel like I got anything worthwhile enough for the risk.
