Speaking of Scythe I also got to play the Disney Villain game Villainous. Which was described to me as Scythe like because you can't go to the same spot twice. Anyways.

Its mostly a solitaire card game, every villain is trying to lock down their own world, but you can mess with each other by forcing them to fight their own heroes. Its not bad, but its really random, if someone has the cards they need to win at the top of their deck they are probably going to win. Also Maleficent is pretty powerful. We were all screwing with her every turn but she still won. Odd choices for the Villains included as well: Ursula, Jafar, Captain Hook, Prince John, Maleficent, and Queen of Hearts. Captain Hook is from a movie Disney will never release in the United States again. I guess slot it into family games?
Eh. Captain Hook is a fairly popular villain. There was a live-action Peter Pan spin-off movie released in 2015 (which was widely panned. HAHA PANNED), so it's still likely to be in the public consciousness. Peter Pan has a large life outside of Disney, too (remember the movie "Hook"). It's not like they picked Edgar Balthazar or Frollo.

Prince John would be the most unusual choice, for me. I would have picked Gaston, Scar, or Shere Khan or any number of Disney villains before him. Ursula, Jafar, and Maleficent are solid choices, IMO.

Yeah, despite the controversial Native American content, Peter Pan is all over the place. Go to Target or Amazon or Walmart, and they all have it in stock.

Song of the South has never officially been released on DVD or Blu-Ray, as far as I know. There have been Laserdisc releases overseas.

No that one is dead and buried as far as I know. Pan's been out on DVD for over a decade now so you should probably double-check your source here. They have said they wouldn't make the film the same way if they were to release it today but that applies to far more of their stuff than just Pan.

Even if Peter Pan were locked away in the vault, Disney has a ton of other media that uses Captain Hook. The Jake and the Neverland Pirates cartoon series, some of those Tinkerbell and the fairies movies, Once Upon a Time and so on.

Just got to play Mint Delivery with 4 players. It was fun as heck!

It moves super fast, due to the 2 actions a turn and each movement costing an action. We didn't play with any of the advanced rules - road hazards or abilities.

In the end, I forced the end of the game (I was the first player) but we were at: 15 pts, 19 pts, 20 pts (me), 21 pts (the winner)! The winner ended his turn scoring 2 cards for like 5 points.

We obviously could've kept going, but we were out of time.

I'm old enough to have seen "Song of the South" at a Drive-In with my family; this would have been the early 70's, I think. That's where the song "Zippity Doo Dah" comes from:

Ha, yeah I'm old enough to just barely remember seeing a Song of the South rerelease in theaters during the 80s (I think around the same time I saw at the drive-in Temple of Doom, Short Circut, Benji The Hunted, and The Last Starfighter).

I don't even remember making a connection to slavery. I just thought Uncle Remus was some friendly hobo. Gone With the Wind was much worse in its revisionism of plantation life.

For inappropriate oldschool Disney villains they'd never release today, I don't think anything could beat out the tar baby from Brier Rabbit.

What month and what death spiral? Spoiler tags, obviously, if it's not normal Pandemic things. While there is definitely a Legacy-related benefit to eradicating diseases, it's usually a poor bet compared to just finishing your win objectives. It's something you do if you know you have some spare time to devote to it.

We're in June and our reluctance to use the military characters means we've basically been relying on the quarantine specialist to block the spread of zombies which doesn't work if you get an outbreak with them. It just seems inefficient to use the chaps who can't really cute and devote 25% of turns to yellow control

I guess I'm not understanding. Quarantine Markers should prevent Outbreaks. If you have a city with 3 Faded and a Quarantine Marker, and you have to place another Faded, an outbreak does not occur and you remove the Quarantine marker. Similarly, you can prevent Faded from spreading using Quarantine Markers in an adjacent city if an Outbreak DOES occur, since it "soaks" the adjacent Faded that gets added for that particular city. This means that the Quarantine Specialist is best used by planting them in Faded territory and not only using Remote Quarantine once per turn, but also hanging out in non-Infected cities and plopping a Quarantine on top of their head.

You can also move, plop a quarantine, move back to your "safe" zone (which has a Q marker on it already), and then remote Quarantine in a turn, since you only get scars if you START a turn in a city with Faded in it. You really want a relationship on your Quarantine specialist that allows you to hand over cards, too, since they are going to be doing defense all the time.

In fact, a Relationship probably can give your Military Guys the added boost that they need to effectively hand cards over to a person who CAN cure.

I only played with two players, but the Quarantine Specialist was our lynchpin, which I guess means that 50% of our turns were spent defending. I guess with four players, you might want to think about having Quarantine + one other person on defense. This does help free up the Quarantine Specialist to do more remote Quarantines in other hotspots if they are doing proportionately less Faded cleanup.

The other thing that we HEAVILY used was both Roadblocks and Permanent Roadblocks. They are well-worth it, and a good Roadblock setup can greatly decrease the chaining ability of a given Outbreak.

Yeah i understand the mechanics. The problem is that relying on one quarantine marker per four sets of draws from the infection deck does not cut it statistically and now we need three objectives the games the games are stretching out a bit longer

In general (pandemic legacy s1 first half spoilers)
you need to have players focusing heavily on containing the Faded and rely on a growing system of cards and abilities that facilitate assembling cures. If you don't have enough abilities that let you transfer cards in additional ways (imo the Researcher is hugely crucial at almost all stages), you will struggle to close out the game before losing control of either the Faded or the diseases you're neglecting.

This is based on memories from years back, though.

Speaking from my group's own experiences with Pandemic S1 games from around that time:
Roadblocks are super useful at helping contain the spread of the Faded, especially since you can choose to make three of them into permanent upgrades at the end of each game. On our board we have almost completely isolated the spread of Coda, and only like, four or five cities that weren't the color of the original disease ended up getting turned Faded.

Played a game of Crows this evening. It's kind of an area control game with Carcassonne tiles and crow meeples; every turn you place your crow magnet and try to suck in all the crows on a column and row of a slowly expanding board. When you get a critical mass of crows on your space, they become a murder and spread out everywhere. Also, magic spells and terrain that manipulate crows, because why not.

It has an interesting tension in turn order; sometimes going early in the turn order gets you a great square nobody else noticed, but other times a later player negates your double points square or vacuums up all your crows by playing a more shiny tile right next to you.

My one experience with it was certainly fun and streamlined the game a bit. You don't have to spend the early game trying to cross the river, and they pare down objectives slightly. The flavor is great. The animal minis are chunky and adorably detailed. Retooling combat as pie fighting gets me way more than it should.

I think it plays a little as a build up to full scythe but i might think that only because I have had the big scythe experience already to see "what's missing." But It's perfectly fine as it's own game because the core mechanics are solid.

I think it might be easier to get people to play it than lugging out the full scythe. It's deceptive about not looking as complex but still having the depth

Played Dragon Castle by CMON yesterday at the FLGS. Wife thought it looked interesting so we broke out the demo copy. It's a pretty fun little game. I think half the appeal is the chunky tiles. It's pretty strategic and interesting even though we just played the base game without any of the bonus scoring or powers. I thought it was maybe a 7-7.5 at first play but the wife really liked it so it had to be bought.

I also have some other birthday funds earmarked towards game purchases but I think I'm going to hold off. I've done a lot of research and it seems like Everdell and Teotihuacan are pretty solid bets for me. Coimbra and Lowlands are also pretty high on my list though. I may just wait until Pax Unplugged and see what I can get a demo for.

The FLGS person who helped with the rules explainer mentioned there was some take that which made me really leery since while my wife and I aren't Rahdo levels of carebear, it's not too far from it. I couldn't see anything that was really that bad. I mean I guess you could discard a tile you know somebody wants but that's not so bad.

Played a couple f games of Disney's Villainous tonight.

Actually a pretty good fun game! Certainly deeper than its branding might lead you to believe.

A few of the Villains are going to be pretty luck based on where their key cards get hidden in their deck though.
