I tried Terraria once, and it wasn't really for me. It made me sad, because it seems like the game that would be a lot of fun in co-op, but the game and I just didn't resonate with each other.
A coworker of mine is leaving next week to go do some work related to wildfires four hours away. Said coworker has a family member living at home who had a recent medical issue that isn't horrible, but she's afraid to leave the family member alone for the week. As a result I'll be staying at my coworker's house next week so that there will be someone there if anything goes awry, which means that I'll be limited to what will run on my venerable old Thinkpad for gaming for a little while. I beseech thee, Steam Thread, lend me your recommendations for games that will run decently on the following:
Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26Ghz
8GB RAM
256MB HD3470
I'll have both kbam and an Xbone controller, and I like most genres (racing, shootman, RPGs, platformers, you name it) except VNs. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated, because why should I go through my existing library and play games I already own when I could just buy new games instead?
World of Goo
Thomas Was Alone
Titan Quest
Thief 1-3
Recettear
Raptor: Call of the Shadows
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One and Two
Loom
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Jade Empire
Hexen
Fez
Fallout 2
Faerie Solitaire Remastered (really good)
Duke Nukem 3D
Doki Doki Literature Club (I know you said no VN's, but it's so gud)
Critter Crunch
Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
Braid
Blood: One Unit Whole Blood
Dark Void Zero
Shadow Warrior Classic (1997)
Final DOOM
Aquaria
Steam has consistently screwed up my playtime counts for a lot of games, I'm not sure if it's a bug or if it's from playing in offline mode a lot but I have a ton of games that I have beaten that Steam says I have no time in.
Thank you for reminding me - I totally forgot that I owned the Thief games, I need to give those a go. I love stealth games.

I think you may be sorted.
Off the top of my head, my old Dell Studio laptop which was fractionally below that spec had no problem with the likes of both L4Ds and Oblivion. Mass Effect 1 & 2 were playable on it after some .ini fiddling to get the framerate up to somewhere tolerable, and 3 is no more demanding than 2 so that would probably be okay too.
Stardew Valley may run, it depends a bit if that GPU has Shader 3.0 support.

Apparently Death's Gambit has a bug for 144hz monitors where it runs at 2x the speed on fullscreen. There's also reportedly been FPS issues with higher end hardware because nVidia doesn't pump all the performance it should into the application if you have are using 'optimized' settings.
I want to wait for those to be patched but the game is so dang pretty. Will probably pick it up today and if not then I'll grab TWD.
Death's Gambit is a really fun souls rogue game. I also just bought Dead Cells, which is also very awesome. So much rogue.
send help
How's performance on Death's Gambit for you Zavian? Any issues?
I actually got it on PS4 (dodges tomatoes) and haven't had any problems. I've actually had some dropped frames/pauses with Dead Cells occasionally, but nothing with Death's Gambit. I'm only past second boss though, just played a bit when it unlocked, gonna dive in more tonight.
Btw there are workarounds for the fps and refresh issues affecting some PC players, I found this official workaround which I'm guessing will be patched soon, but something to consider and look into if you're playing with a high refresh monitor

My thumb thanks Death's Gambit's efforts to support KBAM!
And the other game with Death in the title, Deathgarden, is free on Early Access for five days!

Yeah, I saw that thread too but there's no way I'm lowering my monitor to 60hz for a game. I might take my chances and just play in Windowed Mode.

Also a few more Death's Gambit thoughts: I like the voice acting for NPCs, but wish the player character Sorun was voiced as well. The pixel art is GORGEOUS! Top notch work, and love the animations too and how enemies telegraph their attacks. That said, combat has no feedback i.e you're taking lots of damage but only see it via healthbar; some controller vibrations, SFX or visual cues would go a long way. Also, they need to add button remapping, on controller movement is via left thumbstick, d-pad is for items. Not good! They need to at least add a toggle or some such.

So literally Dark Souls. I can get passed that. No combat feedback is kind of upsetting. Feeling the rumbling followed by a large YOU DIED is a big part of the Dark Souls experience.

It actually innovates on the dark souls formula a bit in my opinion, for example the game tallies deaths against specific bosses; which can mean new NPC dialogue, keeping a certain amount of currency depending on dmg done to boss, as well as story snippet flashbacks when you die. You do lose one health potion each time you die, but you can pick them up again going back to where you died and AFAIK they don't disappear, I've died to bosses and picked up multiple dropped healing feathers. If you dropped a bunch to a tough boss and want to explore instead, you can buy them back instead of retrieving them by beating the boss. I like it tbh, tho I'm still early into it.

One friend with 2.7 hours playtime: @Asthariel, any first impressions to share?
I played to little to be able to judge it properly, but so far:
cold war spy atmosphere is nice
character models are pretty weak, as are voice actors
there is much more focus on stealth in comparison to, let's say, Xcom
there is much less RNG
If you expect clone of Xcom 2, you may be disappointed, if you seek somethink similiar, but different, this may be something for you.
Thanks!!
I've been getting a very Silent Storm vibe from the trailers. I did play Silent Storm with a strong fix-all-problems-with-gunfore-and-explosives mindset, though, so if it turns out to be more of a sneaky Commandos-type game I'd be less interested. Please let us know as you play more!!
I'm apparently the only one who actually liked Back in Action, so I'm pretty hype about this, even if it's gonna be janky as hell.
BiA is the real time version of JA2, right? I didn't quite care for it. But maybe that was the PC I had that was probably not even minspec for the game. Also, didn't like the RT stuff because I'm shit at RTS.
Anyone ever purchase from 'WinGameStore' before? Have any reviews?
Yep, many times (as well as MacGameStore for the occasional OS agnostic Steam key deals there). Never had a problem.* I believe they are a legit key seller.
*
Well, one time I bought a key for Tales from the Borderlands, but it turned out to be for TellTale's site and not a Steam Key. That's pure user error though. It was clearly labeled.

Did it take long to get your key? I'm thinking about getting TWD from them since it's 15% off and I missed the Steam preorder 10%.

It was real-time pausable. I spent probably 75% of that game paused, issuing orders and stuff. I really liked it, it allowed you to be more flexible than you could in a straight turn-based game.

Goddamnit, first Deus Ex, now this. Why can't any good imersive sim gain the popularity they deserve?
And instead we'll possibly get "online" and "multiplayer". DAMN. IT.
Yeah, I'm fine with studios putting game series on "hold" for a bit while they try out new things, but by god am I sick and tired of online and multiplayer being all anyone thinks about these days.
