I'm really paranoid about the TSA thing because of this stupid, unending shutdown. I was planning to leave my house by 7 AM for my 10:30 flight (takes at least an hour to get to the airport) but now I'm wondering if I should get there earlier.
I'm really paranoid about the TSA thing because of this stupid, unending shutdown. I was planning to leave my house by 7 AM for my 10:30 flight (takes at least an hour to get to the airport) but now I'm wondering if I should get there earlier.
Yeah... my normal level of pre-flight paranoia tends to get waiting at my gate at least 2 hours early, usually more like 3 or 4. This time, my flight leaves at 3PM and my brain spiders are whispering to me that I should get a hotel room next door to the airport so I can be there before sunrise.
It doesn't help at all that I still haven't found an anxiety med strong enough to deal with my airplane fears that doesn't also give me stomach troubles to a degree that's untenable on a flight. If I want to deal with all my airplane-related decision making in a rational, calm, chemically-supported manner, I also get to become a portal to the fart dimension while I'm inside a sealed enclosure with a hundred strangers. It's a hell of a choice.

Fortunately the Wichita airport is real small, they have just 1 TSA area with two lanes, and my flight is at 6:30 am, so thee probably won't be much delay.
And friend is driving down in the evening, so worst case i can hitch a ride with him.

The good news is nobody should be needing to go through security in Houston.
The bad news is you will have to go through security in airports that aren’t Houston and probably take even longer.

The MyTSA app tells me there was a 45 minute wait/delay this morning.
EDIT: But Monday is typically a busy day, Wednesdays doesn't look too bad.

This is definitely the hardest PAX to pack for, though I've never been to East.
Let's see, high of 75F/24C on Thursday, storms Friday morning, wind Saturday, and then a clear day Sunday but with a high of 51F/11C and a low of 28F/-2C.
Or maybe this is just normal weather everywhere else and I'm just soft from living in California for the past decade.
I guess it's that time of year where I pop up and make empty promises about being more active this year.
But also, is there a rough schedule of things people are planning somewhere in the thread? I uh have a baby now, so my time will be limited, but I want to be extra sure I make it to a few forum events/meals.

My dad always teases me for arriving 2.5 - 3 hours early, but I've never had to sprint to my assigned gate as I anxiously look at the time.
Besides, the only thing I'd do with that extra hour or two is look at my phone/computer, which I can do at the airport, too.
