Hotel Recommendation for 5?

PirateTruckPirateTruck Registered User regular
I have a group of 3 adults, a 17 year old, and a 10 year old planning to attend PAX South 2019. I was hoping we could split the cost of a large suite that might have 3 beds and a sofa. Does anyone know if a close by hotel has such a room? Would we probably be better off just getting 2 separate rooms? Is it hard to get 2 rooms adjacent to each other? Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I can't answer your first question, but I would hope that anyone running the reservation desk at a hotel would be smart enough to know that someone booking two rooms under one reservation would want the rooms to be next to each other. In any case it would probably be wise to call the hotel after making your reservation to let them know you want the rooms to be adjacent. Worst case, you have to cancel and look elsewhere.

A quick search seems to suggest that the best you can hope for is a suite with 2 Queen beds and then bring air mattresses/sleeping bags for the kids.

No place has 3 beds and a sofa. The best you will find is 2 beds and sofa. Look on hotels.com or whatever your preferred site is, and search for 6 adults per room. Thats how you find sofabed rooms.
Also, personal opinion, Unless you spend the $180+ a night at the LaQuinta/BestWestern/Staybridge thats 1-block away. Just stay at a $60-80 place 3-4 miles away. Nice and easy to ride the bus to the convention. Or to drive and park in the mall parking garage. Also, easier access to a WalMart for forgotten essentials. And best part, you don't blow half your budget on hotel.

I think I found a somewhat reasonable one. I booked a suite at the Staybridge about half a mile away, which isn't too terrible of a walk. It's $300 a night but that will split 3 ways so $100 each isn't terrible. It's a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom so we won't be fighting for showers, sinks, and toilets either. 1 room has a queen, the other has 2 doubles. There's a kitchen and living room with a sofa bed. Free breakfast as well. I know there are cheaper options but for how much less cramped this will be and still let us all hang out in the same room, I think it's worth it.

Pfft, put that 10 year old to work! $75/night per person is much more reasonable!

the homewood suites has some rooms that are 1 king, 2 doubles, and a sofabed (or at least they did during the first pax south, cause I had one of those rooms). No clue as to the price though, and it's not usually on the pax hotel site.

SpringHill Suites have rooms for 5 (2 qn, 1 sofa, tech holds 6) or if you can snag a 2 bedroom suite (still a max of 6) at one of the Residence Inns downtown is going to be your best bet.
That or spring for a Vacation Rental (there's a good number in good walking distance).

Either way, you'll be paying for it. ;)

The Staybridge Suites on Bowie St is a fine hotel, and it's a straight shot from there to the convention center that is a nice, easy walk. I stayed there last year and am planning to use it again this year.
