I have the Best Buy brand kit on my bedroom TV. I obviously don't use it as much as the one downstairs, but I've gamed on it here and there and left it to charge overnight a few times. No issues.
So, The Messenger - I'm not super digging it yet. It just feels SO clunky after coming off Dead Cells.
Imma keep going and I know the Dead Cells comparison isn't really fair, but *shrug*.
Apparently the general consensus is that the game gets better as you play, but unfortunately that means you have to slog through stuff that maybe isn't so fun to get to the better stuff.
I'm only a few levels in so far and boy is the death mechanic grating. I thought we were done with mocking players for sucking?
I found the game fun from the get go, but it definitely gets more interesting once the time switching mechanic comes into play and new areas open up. The bosses are tough but usually interesting to fight and the controls are responsive and fun to use (even if cloud jumping off moving grapple points makes me want to apply a sharp instrument to my face).
And yes, the death mockery scenes are just irritating because they're terribly unfunny the hundredth time (hell, much earlier than that) you hear them and they break up the action too much. If there was an upgrade that would make that demon shut up and just warp me back to the save point that would be grand.
I've seen a lot of 10s for the game in reviews but I don't quiiite see it. Maybe an 8/8.5
Oh man the gameplay videos of the Japanese version of Gal Metal look bad. The drum sounds are so discordant and the players' drum audio isn't equalized to the music so it just sounds horrible, and for some reason the beat counter goes horizontally instead of vertically so it's the most confusing way possible to do it because reasons. Think I'm going to skip this one.
I've heard this from tons of people over the last couple of days, at this point I'd be really surprised if it wasn't true. Also, I hope the rumored time is correct since I should just about be home from work at that point. *knock on wood*
I'm doubtful. It feels like a bunch of rumormongers reporting on each other's rumors. I'll believe there's gonna be a Direct once Nintendo announces there's gonna be a Direct and not before.
Still using my 3rd party dock a year or so later and its still working fine. I've also seen 0 actual evidence outside the nyko dock of failures after 5.0.
I'm in this unending cycle where I read plenty of people saying this and I go "Oh, it'll probably be fine." But then I consider do I really want to risk losing the save data and having to file a warranty claim, I should just get the real one since I can make that portable with a kit. But the official dock + kit is like a hundred bucks, that's crazy I should just get the cheap portable dock.
I dunno, I love how The Messenger played right from the get-go. The cloud...jump? Mechanic where it resets your air jump when you hit something with your sword feels SO good to use. Shopkeeper might be my front runner for Best New Character 2018 too.
I love the concept of that jump but the positioning of the buttons for slash and jump make it feel clunky to me. I want one of them on the trigger so I don't have to use the same finger.

I CANNOT BREAK FREE
if you want to hedge your bets, wait until cloud saves are a thing. so worst case, if the warranty claim is rejected you can at least not lose your data.
FWIW from perusing the switch subreddit since launch I've seen just about every possible 3rd party dock cause at least one frying incident. Nyko, Insignia, Fast Snail, etc.

Yeah I'm leaning heavily towards just ponying up the money for the official dock and just buying the little kit at some point down the road when I do want to take it elsewhere. If I kill the system I doubt I'll care that I saved the money.

Since the online service is coming out second half Sep, some kind of announcement is imminent, if not tomorrow
The Umihara Kawase game teased a year ago now has a name: Umihare Kawase Fresh! Don't think there's any other game that I suck so much at yet keep buying at any opportunity.
My prediction is that a lot of what we're going to hear about will be linked to the online service somehow. The service itself is relatively simple, so besides "you can play free NES game(s) with added online multiplayer", they need to make the case that you want their online service-- so they'll discuss Mario Kart (Possible new DLC?), Splatoon 2, Smash, and maybe Animal Crossing and Pokemon.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.

I'm gonna guess another dump truck of indie titles.
A safe bet is probably a announcement on the Splatoon 4.0 update. They *did* delay this month's weapon drop until later in September... probably something to announce along with it.
Which would make sense, if they're going to be talking about the online service...

"We lied about the Smash release date... It's actually being released... RIGHT NOW! Along with our new subscription service *insert details here*. Sign up in the first week and get a year for $15 instead of $20!"
I think it's a sure bet we'll get something explaining how the online service works. Beyond that, I'm hoping for, in order of likely to pipe dream:
-Fire Emblem Three Houses info
-New Smash Bros character reveal
-Metroid Prime 4 trailer
-Tokyo Mirage Sessions port
-Star Fox Zero remaster with working controls
-New F-Zero
I was one of the people who was convinced that Star Fox Zero couldn't be as bad as everyone said it was, and even picked it up when it was on sale convinced I was going to bite into a hidden gem a la Kid Icarus: Uprising (an actually amazing game that is hampered by its controls). It's actually just a bad game. It was designed around the control scheme so thoroughly that even if you entirely revamped the controls, you'd be left with these weird, plodding levels and lackluster combat. Best to just forget it happened and hope for a new, proper Star Fox game at some point in the future. It's a really unfortunate game. I kept waiting for it to click and it just...never does.

Oh, cool. I'm going to be on a plane when this airs. No no, it's cool. I didn't want to see it live or anything.

Although, because of time zones, the Direct will broadcast at midnight precisely, which is technically the seventh. So, haha! The rumors were wrong!
Anyways, I guess I'll start trying not to get my hopes up about an announcement of an XCX port.

The entire direct will be dedicated to analyzing the moves of one specific smash character.
That's a bit optimistic, I'd guess it'd be dedicated to analyzing a single move of one specific smash character.
They should take most of them to the dump instead.
