I liked it quite a bit, once I got my head around how to properly maneuver around enemies. I like the setpieces (my favorite being the giant dreadnought whose shield you need to infiltrate, then destroy from within using the walker). I enjoyed the options for branching paths. I can see why someone might dislike the moment-to-moment gameplay, but I wasn't one of them. I'd not mind an updated game that more would like, mind you.
What I didn't like so much was the reboot. This is the third dang game to run through the story of Star Fox 1. We had a nice expanded cast with Assault on, and that just got set to one side. There was some potential with the time-space warp gates to make the story stray into something new, but it largely just went with Star Fox 1, but the final boss is in a pocket dimension instead of on Venom.
Got a Switch for the ole birthday and am exploring game options. Probably mostly as handheld.
When I used my DS for the commutes more frequently I trended towards long strategy or turn based rpg games that I'd invariably burn out on before completing them.
SMT4, various Fire Emblems, Persona Q. I pretty certain I'm going to buy Disgaea 5 complete, so I'm keeping true to form on the Switch.
I may buy Banner Saga Trilogy instead though. I've been meaning to replay 1&2 prior to playing through 3 and just don't see the game time opening up while at home, so the commute may be a good place for it.

Usually I don't do pie in the sky predictions and the directs usually make me happy, even if there is only one thing I'm interested in.
Today though, I'm going to give my super wild desires that I don't think will be fulfilled but I am tired of working so here we go:
Xenoblade Chronicles X port
N64 Mini
Earthbound Collection for Switch or 3DS (I don't care which)
Metroid Collection
Paper Mario TTYD HD or a Paper Mario Classics Collection (or even a Color Splash port, forget you haters, it is the 2nd best Paper Mario)
Pikmin 4 finally revealed

I would like some Legend of Heroes ports. Trails of Cold Steel is a series I have also not gotten around to at home that seems like it'd be a nice fit for Switch.
Switch thread and all, and that's where all my hype is pretty much, but on the 3DS side of things, I thought there was another M&L announcement pending or something? Did they remake all of the older ones yet?

Bowser's Inside Story remake is coming early next year...which I'm really excited about as it is my favorite game from the series.
I'm keeping my expectations low and expecting them to spend about half the time talking about the upcoming Yokai Watch 3DS games.
Reminds me of what happened when I went into Toys R Us during the last week it was open. The place was absolutely decimated. There were just tiny bits and pieces of things here and there breaking up the vast stretches of emptiness.
...except the Yo-Kai Watch section. It still looked completely stocked. Even at 70 percent off, no one wanted to buy the things.
I'm a little amazed Nintendo keeps releasing the games over here.
Welp, looks like I won't be able to watch it live after all, don't think I'll get home by midnight given how crazy it's been at work this week.
As for predictions, there are a couple of safe bets:
- Nintendo Switch Online info
- Smash character reveal (Decidueye pls)
- the rumored port of New Super Mario Bros. U
- new trailers for Super Mario Party and Pokemon Let's Go
- new trailers for Luigi's Mansion and Bowser's Inside Story
Also, I hope they announce a localization for Persona Q2. Generally, I don't think we're gonna get anything crazy in this Direct. Maybe a couple of new third party games, some DLC and indies, but nothing major. I also don't think we're gonna see anything from Nintendo's 2019 games.

Star Fox needs a Doom 2016 style reboot. Take everything that was great about the original 2 games and crank that shit up to 11.

By original 2, do you mean Star Fox 1 and Star Fox 64, or Star Fox 1 and Star Fox 2? Because it still interests me how much Star Fox 2 influenced some later games, when we didn't really have it until recently.
The quake doesn't really affect Nintendo itself, but I'm sure this is out of respect for the people affected. Bad times in Japan this year and I hope everyone will be OK.
I'm doubtful. It feels like a bunch of rumormongers reporting on each other's rumors. I'll believe there's gonna be a Direct once Nintendo announces there's gonna be a Direct and not before.
I left mine undocked for a week or so while away on holiday and they drained so they seem to do something even while not connected.
I have two sets so I can swap them around as needed so I don't really notice charge time otherwise but they seem to last longer than I ever need. They certainly don't ever go from full to empty and cause me to end game sessions earlier than I wanted unlike the WiiU tablet.
Like with in the day it's really odd as I switched machines and then joycons to see if they was way nope it's the joycons it's just odd

I feel like the reason might be that the content of the Direct would've insensitive at this time, i.e. a scene prominently featured an earthquake, or maybe they were going to announce a Switch version of that recent Disaster Report game.
Eh, maybe. I won't attempt to speculate. I suppose the benefit of a prerecorded video is that you can make changes or delay it without too much trouble. But that's business talk, really. Not relevant.
Random moment: I was going to say that the quake 'doesn't affect Nintendo directly' but I caught myself.
In all seriousness, I hope everyone's okay. Japan needs a break.
Of course you're kidding, but I honestly don't see them delaying it more than a week barring any other tragedies (god, let's hope there aren't any more. Japan has had it bad this year). I know, business talk again.

Oh boo I thought if you owned it either way you would get the discount
Boo indeed! For some reason I'm under the impression the Japanese release of VC4 on Switch actually includes VC1.
Then again, I did get VC1 in a Humble Bundle at some point, and it's been sitting in my steam library unplayed for years. So I guess I could always do that...
When is my Hyper Light Drifter preorder gonna' unlock? It's September 6th - it said it'll be playable on September 6th - what gives? What giiiiives?!
I believe the eShop updates at noon Eastern
Thank you ^.^
I get the hype, and appreciate the reminder that HLD is out now, but don't we have a rundown on release times on the first post? Nintendo published and 'special' releases sometimes come out at midnight ET the morning of, but most releases are at Noon ET the day of.

I think I'm going to go for one of the HD versions of NBA 2K this year, if I even bother getting it this year, but I'd love to hear how this year's Switch version turns out and if they were able to get it running or looking much better than last year's version.

I agree. I have several ideas in my head about how it may work and they all fucking rule. There's a lot of potential.

I wasn't aware of that. Hope there were no casualties. I'm sure Nintendo brass want to monitor the situation and help their employees.
