I like being able to build characters differently, and looking online there seems to be talk of D3 character builds but I don't know what that entails. I like skill points and investments like that but also the ability to respec.
Are you saying it's like Fallout 4 or something, dumbing down any player choice and just giving everyone everything all the time?
If you make a Demon Hunter in D3 there's almost no reason for you to make another Demon Hunter again because you can just change your skills at any point in time. It kinda sucks (IMO, of course) because I loved D2 for having a hundred different characters with various skillsets and all that.
That was great when D2 came out and I had more time, but now I'm a dad of 2 with a job and responsibilities. The ability to respec gives me the only chance to check out some of those skills, since there's no way I can invest an additional 50+ hours on a new character. Another reason I love the Switch, since I can play it when I have the time wherever I am, not just when I'm at home and the TV is free.
Strong agree. Obviously different people have different preferences, but I've never felt like my choices didn't matter in D3. On the flip side, the idea that you get to the level cap and realize that you don't actually like your build, or you picked some strictly-numerically-inferior skill because you didn't understand the game as well 20 hours ago, or you flat-out misclicked at some point, gives me a stomach ache.
Anyway, the D3 thread on this very forum is very good and helpful and can point you in the right direction. The r/Diablo3 subreddit (and the subreddits for all the D3 classes) are also good resources, although they're a little slow these days (bet they'll pick up once the Switch version's out). I'd stay away from r/Diablo, though, because it is currently filled with so much hyperbolic wailing and gnashing of teeth about how Blizzard is a monster for warning people to temper their Diablo expectations for BlizzCon that there's really no actually useful content.
Sure, you don't have to make a new character when you want to try different skills on a class. You get enough character slots to make 2 of every class, though. Which is what I did, male/female of each class. Two and a half times... every character maxed out twice on PS3 and PS4, and almost on XBone. It's mostly the reason I'm not picking it up on Switch any time soon, I burned myself out something fierce on Diablo 3 :P
I still love the game, but I just can't bring myself to play it anymore.
Now if Blizz would hurry the eff up with Diablo 4, I'd be all over that in an instant.
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.
Catching up on the Nintendo Direct from today, and holy crap. This spirit mode in Smash is exactly the sort of single player fighting game experience I could vanish down for months.
Now that I have a larger SD card, I'm really tempted to cancel my Amazon preorder, even though I have $10 off, to get it digitally and not have to swap out carts.

Yeah I wasn't really sold on Smash Bros until I heard about the Spirits. Now I'm all in.
Is there a downside to making a seasonal character in D3?
You can't transfer stuff from a seasonal character to a non-seasonal character. Any items in your vault do no carry over as well as gold.
e: Basically think of a Seasonal character as a hard reset on the game and you have to start over at level 1.
No, you can't transfer from non-seasonal to seasonal. Any loot, paragon xp, etc. on seasonal characters goes to your non-seasonal at the end of the season (at which point seasonal chars become non-seasonal).

Although at the end of the season, everything that was seasonal gets transferred over to the non-seasonal stuff. Which can be annoying. If you have a stash full of crap, it all gets sent as mail to your non-seasonal characters, and you have to sort through it and restash it, if you care enough to do so.

Sorry I wasn't clear. That's kinda what I meant... Anything you've collected on your other characters will not be available to seasonal characters, unless they collected it during that season. This sounds more confusing than it really is.

Didnt they at least eventually clean that up to be somewhat automatic for generic mats, etc?

What happens to that character when the season is over?
They go to a special farm upstate. It's a really nice place with wide open fields. Plenty of room to run and play and massacre all the demons they want!

Before it goes off sale, what are the thread's opinions on Resident Evil Rev 1&2?
I love them, they're great games. I had an awesome time playing through all of Rev2 and its raid mode with a buddy a few months ago. And Rev1 has a good story mode too and its own raid mode. Controls well and looks good on Switch.
Never played either one of them. Is there a lot to unlock? Replayability?
Wait, is this an amiibo that summons a portal to Greed or something?
Cause that's just... wow.
Awesome? I agree!
It feels like a "gimme more loot" button if that's what it does. Which is just a time-saver anyways with how much loot is in caches anyways. Yeah, I'm on board with it, I guess. Or would be, but I doubt I'll be dipping into Diablo III again. I have too many other irons in the fire atm.
There's some info in the OP, and questions and such are always welcome. Some folks are also keeping the thread up to date with the links for the current switch/d3 promotion Blizzard is running.
Wait, is this an amiibo that summons a portal to Greed or something?

Based on some *hot leaked info* that I've seen on the Internet (and who knows how accurate that is), that's what it does, but it can only be used only, like, once a day or something.
According to the same *hot leaked info*, there'll also be a demon amiibo that just like... "puts a powerful demon on the map"? Which I guess probably just summons an elite pack at your location? Also on a cooldown timer.
I think summoning a portal to Greed's Realm is fine, because after one single trip there, money just loses all meaning, you will never run out, so being able to hit it daily is almost irrelevant. Not getting that first lucky portal for a while can be frustrating, though, so this is like a nice safety net.
My main criteria for amiibo is "Do I like this as a little statuette thing?", though, and never the in-game bonuses, so I'm bummed that I don't like this one.

Man, I've only ever been there once in D3. So the Goblin Amiibo summons a portal that will take you there whenever? I'm sure there's a daily limit, but that's pretty awesome!

They have the same amount of replayability as other Resident Evil games, which is, it's about the same on a replay except you can start with the ammo and guns you had at the end of the game and can unlock cool new weapons for later plays. The ultimate being an
infinite rocket launcher that just blows up literally everything and you can coast hilariously through the game.
At least this applies to Revelations 2, I forget about 1 but I think it's about the same. Rev 2 is more full-featured in that respect. There are a lot of achievements, some very difficult to get, to unlock various modes and artwork and whatever. New costumes to play through the game, add a black and white horror filter, etc.
Raid mode also lasts a long time, you keep getting guns and upgrade parts dropping at random with various features like adding flame to your bullets or more capacity or reload speed etc. It's got that "one more round" addictiveness of Diablo or Borderlands, trying to get the best drops. There are still ongoing online challenges for big rewards, including (in Rev 2) fighting a giant Godzilla-like monster lumbering towards the coast which you have to kill in cooperation with every other Rev 2 player.
Lots of unlockable characters to play as in both games in raid mode. And skills to unlock and equip that change your abilities.

Is raid mode soloable? Or do you need a coop partner to get anywhere?
Can anyone give me a quick description of the Smash single player mode? I doubt I would ever use the multiplayer, local OR online, but I do like fulfilling arbitrary goals to unlock things.

You unlock all but the original eight fighters. "Spirits" let you collect a crapton of cameos from other games (including Eternal Darkness!) by participating in weird fights that kinda sorta vaguely evoke each character. There are other challenges of some sort as well. There's also an adventure mode where everyone but Kirby gets killed by bolts of light and the Internet is now crying because of a tender scene between Sonic and Pikachu.

It's totally soloable but best with a friend. Oh also in Revelations 2 you can play with 2 players on one TV co-op in both the main story and raid mode, only one copy of the game needed. Rev 1 does not have that feature though, and its story mode is not co-op either, just its raid mode. But I still recommend Rev 1 for its gameplay, it was primarily designed as a good return-to-roots horror Resident Evil game for a single player. Rev 2 was designed for co-op in the story mode, you can play it solo but it is clunkier switching between two characters.
I recommend them as a pair, each has its own strengths.
