So I’m listening to the latest Dollop, and at some point Dave and Gareth spend far too long riffing on a witness describing a crowd as being “between 65 and 500 people.” I eventually just tapped the skip-45-seconds button on Pocketcasts, and that got me right to the point where Dave starts reading from his notes again, and his notes immediately provide a way better punchline.
I like the Dollop, but it’s kind of amazing how it’s also a anti-advertisement for the hosts’ standup careers.
I don't get actively angry or anything at the riffing
I just feel it goes on for WAY too long most of the time

i enjoy plenty of dumbass podcast riffing, enough that I can't cast aspersions on anyone liking a different flavor of it. but dave and gareth's doesn't do it for me
please explain to me the difference between a riff a bit and a goof.
Riffs are extended and generally involve expounding on a single topic
Bits usually involve a pretense or a character that you're maintaining as a joke
Goofs are just jokes or banter

I actually think I can do this! Obviously these aren't 100% solid but they're how I view things
A riff is kind of a small improv run that comes off of a 'prompt', in the case of The Dollop its something they find particularly funny
A goof is just a joke, a single funny thing
A BIT is some kind of running joke. So like in Blank Check, the fact that Griffin acts shocked when David mentions he's from england is a Bit
