Surely the play here is to gamble and threaten Trump with flipping, in order to force a Pardon. You're potentially in prison til you due anyway, and it's not like they've not tried a few Hail Marys as it is.
Declare the paperwork the investigation used in the trial to be biased and fictional, so if it pops up in any other trial you've also got that to point to.

Depends if Manafort actually knows where some of the bodies are buried, and I struggle to believe that someone who has presumably taken precautions when dealing with a variety of unsavoury characters in high office, wouldn't have done the same for Trump.
Almost to the point where part of him joining the presidential run would have been to get that exact Get Out of Jail Free card.

Yeah Manafort's main value to Mueller now is as an example to Flynn and Cohen and the rest to keep playing ball. There aren't the kinds of people who are accustomed to being threatened with jail time, so putting one of them away for up to 30 years will drive that home.

Because unless Trump decides to escalate the crap out of things by issuing pardons, and Republicans are able to withstand whatever blowback there might be from the electorate, there'll be more of this. Trump likely won't be the next one up.

yep. Either he flips, or he's an example to others. Being the first guy in front of a jury is not the best situation.

If that were the case I doubt they would only have questions about a single count.

Someone who was truly committed to torpedoing the case would have made sure he got off entirely.

I sympathize with the jurors honestly. Financial crimes are complicated even in the most cut and dry cases, and the way this trial has gone has to have led to some additional confusion. It's been tough to keep up with just reading casually on my phone, much less in an actual courtroom situation where you don't get the advantage of the bird's eye view, so to speak
