    CAREPOST INCOMING

I finished the campaign last night and I was shocked by how good it was. It's lame to say it but I feel like they actually finally delivered on the destiny that lives in our imagination

    Story- lore & intrigue
For I think the first time ever, they managed to embed the mystery that lore nerds find in the margins of destiny into the main campaign. 'What the hell is creating the scorn?' 'why does the baron call uldren daddy?' and 'fuck/marry/kill savathun/mara/riven?' are all actually important issues in the story that are discussed and hinted at but left leaving you wanting to explore the lore

    Story- pacing
For I think the first time ever, 90% of the campaign is not restarting machinery that will let you get to a piece of golden age tech that will tell you where the macguffin that lets you into the place where the bad thing might be happening.

Each mission is killing a guy you have a reason to want to kill. Most of the time you don't even get waylaid and have to press a button. A shocking revelation that you can structure a shooting game about wanting to shoot people rather than blowing cobwebs off devices

    Story- pathos
Uldren is a fucking fantastic antagonist. I don't know if I'm reading too much into things but it seems like he kinda suspected he was going mad/getting played. The facial animation was excellent and the voice acting was very good. I really felt sorry for him at the end. Compare this to Gaul who had daddy issues with a fucking spheroid and his adoptive father. The Gaul cutscenes were very bad.

Also marakir pointed out to me that it was the vestian dynasty that killed Uldren. Subtlety! In Destiny~! How!?!?!

    Gameplay- variety
My biggest complaint with pre-endgame destiny has always been the lack of variety. FINALLY, every mission had at least one thing that was DIFFERENT than the other missions. That's all I ask Bungie.

Now I'm at the endgame. The intro to the Dreaming City was fantastic, Gambit is awesome, and the new (old) sandbox is extremely fun. I'm excited to explore the dreaming city and i am all the way bought in for SHOCKING REVELATIONS in the raid.

I love this stupid skinner box and Bungie's insistence on fucking everything up to test if we really love them

Can you point me to where (Forsaken story ending spoiler)
it's confirmed that Petra killed Uldren instead of your Guardian?
when petra gives you the vestian dynasty the text is "the gun that.... well...." or something like that. I played the final mission with marakir and that line made him suspicious so he went out of the spiders lair and fired the vestian dynasty. He was pretty sure that the gunshot effect from the end of the campaign was the sidearm and not the ace of spades. I couldn't tell you for sure

It's pretty ambiguous tho and I'm amazed the Bungie managed to restrain themselves from hitting us over the head with something.

Boo top of page spoiler-ness. Anyway, enclosed spoiler is talking about campaign ending scene alongside mission Nothing Left to Say
The text has her say "I want you to have my sidearm, the Vestian Dynasty. It's the weapon that... well. You know. Nothing left to say about that." OH HEY DAT MISSION NAME.
So it's a pretty solid interpretation of the implication.

So if Y2 versions of old exotics have more perks... does that mean there will be two entries for each exotic in your Collection? Like... how does that work.

I want to raid with you again. Sadly, I'll be away next weekend for a bach party

I suspect a lot of folks are not going to be finishing the raid next weekend.
I'm signed up for one Friday but I'm not entirely certain I'll be high enough light to even unlock the event. Definitely won't be high enough to finish.
Raid level requirements spoilers based on something I saw on reddit
Someone apparently datamined the raid levels, somehow? I guess that's a thing people do.
The word is it's 520 to unlock and 550 recommended. Which I assume means the last section will be like 580.

OK, so Destiny 2 is free for PS+ user, which allowed me to give it a try.
So in the beginning of the week it was relatively easy to upgrade my 2 exotics’s Light level.
The new expansion dropped, and suddenly I need Masterwork Cores or something for that.
My mate who just started has his light 50 coat, but his other gear is far better. Furthermore stuff like the Graviton Lance is stuck at 100 with him.

So how can a non-DLC Destiny 2 player get those cores? Is that something that Xur sells? I’ve looked around the tower and can’t find anyone who is selling them.

And have factions been abandoned? I walked to the faction peeps, and I can’t even talk to them? So I can’t get pretty FWC or New Monarchy stuff anymore?

I did receive a Masterwork Drang after completing the quest of finding Failsafe’s Captain, so that’s something...

Basically Carl they made it so that they want you to not infuse constantly anymore. At least having to think about it or choose what you want at max level. However it has put people without the xpack, that didn't play slot Or never saved up many cores behind the 8 ball. Effectively what most people are doing is just wearing whatever is highest and creeping their way up with the exception of a few stand out pieces of equipment and weapons.
    Wait... what?!

Bungie has made some stupid decisions in the past but this is one of the dumbest. So, basically what you're saying is that if a player didn't buy Forsaken, they are NEVER going to be able to infuse gear.

New players coming in to the game are going to get gear during the initial campaign that they outgrow and they have no way to upgrade it. Sure, their 'effective power level' will continue to increase as they get bigger and better rewards (and try not to use them because the stats are wrong for their build, or they like the perks on their current gear), but they're going to run into a difficulty problem at some point where they are -forced- to use higher PL gear just to advance the campaign missions.

That's got to be way up there on the list of ways to ruin a game: make it a horrible experience for new players!

I don't disagree that its a bad system largely because its prohibitively expensive, but Carl said he got a masterwork weapon? He would be able to breakdown that any others that he got for masterwork cores. He just can't buy them from Spider (buying gets more expensive for each one you buy anyway, so its still not a great source of them, just a slow reliable dribble). He can still infuse gear. Just that it would be unwise to do so until hes hit some sort of LL cap

I mean, its always been a thing to wear blues while leveling up since D1?
Except that the D2 campaign awards you with two exotics as you level up and the first one is given at 100. So the game is basically saying, "Here, have this really cool piece of gear that is amazeballs... but it will be completely underpowered and useless for you until you give us an extra $60 - and grind through 40 more levels of content before you unlock any reasonable way to upgrade it."

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but this kind of shit doesn't exactly make me want to buy the expansion. I mean, the whole idea behind making the Y1 content "free" is to make players want to upgrade right? This doesn't exactly encourage that.

I don't understand... Are you saying that you don't like that year one exotics can't be updated without y2 mats?

You know you can draw a new one from your collection that's a little lower light (probably not enough to matter) from your collection for glimmer, shards and some gunsmith parts.

I did it with Whisper to make a couple of the forsaken campaign bossed easy-mode.
I did not know that and (if true) that would satisfy me. Like so many things in Destiny, this is not explained (at all) or even hinted at in the game.

@Corporal Carl (and his friend, according to his earlier post) and myself have hit this roadblock where we have Y1 exotics that claim to require masterwork cores to infuse. As not-owning-Forsaken players, we have no (reliable) way to get masterwork cores. Not even prohibitively expensive ways. Access to the Forsaken core vendor requires the Forsaken expansion that we don't have.

Since returning to the game after a year-long absence, I've completed the Curse of Osiris content, about half of the Warmind DLC, plus several nights of roaming around to grind out power levels (needed to not be obliterated by Warmind). In ten days of play, I have seen exactly one masterwork item (a titan mark) which apparently yielded two cores when I deconstructed it. (I only know this because I somehow have two cores and I don't know of any other way that I could have gotten them.)

Right now I'm sitting at the soft-cap of 340 (without exotics). My highest Y1 exotic is 285. To infuse a Y1 exotic takes three cores. Cores, which are impossible for a Y1 player to obtain in any way other than waiting for a ridiculously low drop rate to cough one up. Cores, which could literally take weeks of play to get single one. A new player could easily complete the entire campaign and only see one masterwork item, or maybe none at all!!

You can't tell me that's not going to drive new players away from the game.

Some Super Good Advice. When you get to a certain stage where you need Taken kills to unlock something, the Shadow Thrall in the bottom of the Whisper of the Worm heroic do count as taken. Makes it super fast if you have it unlocked on that character.

Also also seems like there's a bugged interaction between the new Sentinel Super and the Dawnblade super rift. As soon as you use the new Banner shield while attached/in the rift, your super instantly depletes to zero and goes away.

It's happened every time I tried to use it in conjunction with @Luarithae 's super rift.

One entry. You can only get Y1 versions of exotics out of the vault. No random rolls.

I just tried it to see. Bought a Nazerac's Sin off Xur, got the one out of my vault, and looked it up in the Collection.
Collection and vault ones match (sidearm targeting is the only 3rd row perk, special ammo finder is the only 4th row). The one from Xur has 3 perks in the 3rd row, none of which are Sidearm and two on the 4th row, neither of which is special ammo finder.

So I guess Collection exotics are the Y1 ones and you can only get Y2 ones in Y2.

I've experienced this as well, and it seems to be documented on Reddit. I also had the same thing occur when someone used the new superman smash to fly through the banner shield. Instantly deactivated the super and drained energy to zero.

Guessing there is a lot to unpack here involving the vials of something something that occasionally drop. Haven't interacted with the cats I found yet either as I am not sure if it starts some kinda timed event or which item it will take from my inventory. Got around 35 kills in the two matches I did today, won both and got like 7 Army of One medals during that.

I haven't done any invading yet, since all my gambit time has been spent working on Cayde's Will. Given that I've completed that, I may just go back and see if its as fun as it looked on the receiving end. I'm contemplating finally getting around to finishing the steps for Sleeper first, though, as I imagine sleeper + super = dead enemy team.

(Note: I haven't beaten the Forsaken story all the way through and thus might not know certain developments from the end of that story. If something from it makes any of these ideas impossible, alright, that part would have to change.)

So from before, I wanted to continue my train of thought. To sum it up: Zavala sucks. And has for some time.
-At the start of the Red War, he makes the civilization-destroying level mistake of ignoring the Red Legion's attack on the Traveler. Who knows how possible it would have been to stop it on short notice, but doing nothing was the only guaranteed way to completely get everyone killed.
-He then signals the survivors to a fallback planet that had apparently not been the subject of enough Vanguard oversight, killing many, many more Guardians in the process.
-He has no plan for dealing with the Legion and completely depends on the advice of his Fireteam to get anywhere.
-In Osiris, Ikora doesn't even want him informed of what's going on. Apparently, he can't be trusted with the information.
-In Warmind, Zavala takes time to chastise Ana and the Guardian for investigating some SERIOUS SHIT happening on Mars, but not enough time to actually help them deal with it? He forces a terrible plan (if not having a plan could be considered one) over an option he considers distasteful and nearly gets the Tower's best field asset killed with his stupidity. Ana takes command and resolves the situation instantly.
    -And finally, in Forsaken,
he decides the Vanguard shouldn't fight against the Barons or Uldren, even as the Prison splits open and starts spreading havoc across the system. Even as their newfound Awoken allies at the Reef are killed. Even as his beloved Fireteam is cut down by a third. He freezes up and suggests just turtling in the City.

So... I think it's story time that he gets deposed. I'm thinking something like the duel from Uncanny X-Men #201, where Storm defeats Cyclops, who had developed into a weak headed mess at that point. Ikora should stop tiptoeing around calling him a coward and just challenge him to a duel. After she crushes him (because of course she will), he should leave the Tower to clear his head (and come back later on with his head pulled out of his ass). With this done, here's my proposed new Tower leadership.

New Speaker: Ikora (her connection to the Traveler is actually a real thing, unlike the last guy)
New Titan Vanguard: Saladin (Let's stop ignoring the events of Rise of Iron and get him in the story in a big way)
New Warlock Vanguard: Osiris (he admitted Ikora had surpassed him, it's time for him to stop fucking around with his Vex video games and start contributing to Humanity again)
New Hunter Vanguard: I want Eris but would allow Hawthorne since the game seems to be leaning that way

I'm not gonna lie, my head canon is literally my Hunter taking over as the Vanguard Hunter leader.

Does anyone remember the website that showed you what location scannable you’ve found, and what Rasputin nodes you still need? I can’t for the life of me remember the name
    This one? https://lowlidev.com.au/destiny/maps/

No, there was a different one that had all the objects in list form. It actually linked to that map site, though

It's 4:30 am and I am still playing Destiny. I have missed this. I have missed this very much.

Hopping on now. Gonna probably bang out a bunch of solo story and then maybe some Crucible later.

I've waited all week for this. HEEYEYYYYYAALLLL YEEEEEAH BOIIIIIIISS

I've been meaning to ask if you're PC or console? I could always use another meatshield minion friend or two for Destiny stuff.
    I'm PS4. You?

I played solo all night (because I had to do basically the entire story, which was SO TERRIFIC, GG BUNGIE) - first campaign, public events and exploring and questing, then Crucible, then Gambit. Up in about 5 hours to do a bunch more stuff.

Will definitely be game for some Gambit or Crucible or Strikes or WHATEVER tomorrow. Maybe I'll throw a Pax Arcadia Community Party Chat up on PS4 again.

During that last Gambit match I had a guy shoot me with that new exotic Rocket Launcher Two-Tailed Fox with the double solar/void rockets while Stormtrancing...

Yeah, I survived that with a sliver of health left and still wrecked him and his team, I totally expected some hate mail for that one but nothing came from it. :crackle:

I wish that AoS's quest step was for killing as an invader instead of the other way around.

Pop a Tincture and go exploring.

Maybe in the Lost Sector near Petra... Look for things that stand out.

Gambit with full rando's is not bad. Got two of my invader kills, need to get a better handcannon than this Ten Paces I'm using with delayed explosions.

OK, Thin Line is apparently recommended, so I'll try that out next time.

Tri-Optimum reminds you that there are only one-hundred-sixty-three shopping days until Christmas. Just 1 extra work cycle twice a week will give you the spending money you need to make this holiday a very special one.

I love this game so much. I feel like I’m eternally floored by the environmental art in every area I go to. I don’t know what wizards they keep under their emoployment at Bungie.

And I’m never taking my bow off. The game is still second to none in shooting mechanics, including ancient weapons. Now just give me an exotic heavy cow.

The old standbys are not bad choices either. I used a mixture of Truth (the gambit drop) and a Zen Moment/Rangefinder Better Devils to complete the HC related stuff for the AoS quest.

The invader kills was actually the biggest PITA about that quest. What I ended up doing was heading for the middle of the map as soon as the invader warning popped and kept an eye out. Typically one of my allies would engage the invader or get killed by them, which helped in locating them before a sniper round or sleeper bolt cut me down.

Fighting Lion + Hand Cannon of choice is a great way to get invader kills solo too, as I think local H Jay suggested. The Lion takes care of the overshield, so from there you just gotta win the fight with your hand cannon.

Good luck to everyone working on it! The reward is absolutely worth it.
