I love how predictable this game is and yet how fun it still manages to be.
Middle of act 2 spoilers:
Oh, the tortured knight is Hero’s father?! I would never have guessed! And let’s see... oh yes, he can only break his father’s spirit free by going back to the night of his father’s death. Oh! And the ghostly voice he’s been hearing is his mother!
I'm well into the postgame at this point. I had been avoiding any talk on this game until being done the main game, although it seems like everyone here has been good about spoilers anyway.
I think this game does a much better job with characters and story than DQ8 did. The story is still largely predictable, but it got me more than a few times. I was pleasantly surprised.
The story might be pretty predictable, but the characters are interesting and well written so that even though you know where you'll end up the ride is still fun and enjoyable.
I reached the end of Act 1 about 50 hrs in.
End of Act 2 about 90 hrs in.
I completed the post-game, aka Act 3, at about 150 hrs in and that was NOT 100%ing the game - I left about 8 quests unfinished, I never spent any time in the casino, and I unlocked very few special outfits. I may save trying for achievements for when it comes out for Switch.
You can certainly complete Act 3 in far less time, especially if you take more time during Act 2, but there’s still a fair amount of story to pick up in Act 3. It’s definitely a game in itself.
Anyway yes, it’s such a fantastic game!

I'm usually slow because I love the grind.
I was wrong earlier. I had 2 orbs left to get. I'm at the camp right before yggdrasil now.

Middle of act 2 spoilers:
I’ll still nearly cry anyway.

Now sylvando is giving poop to a dragon and is still the best.
Edit

Puff puff is apparently a lady rubbing her boobies on each side of your head

Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
Was pretty great.
I got a real good laugh out of that.
Editing this post a month later because
Without spoilers about how far into the game am I if I'm about to get the last orb?
It feels like it's nearing the end but if I know anything about DQ games they take 100 hours and I'm barely 30 in
That's near the end...of Act I. So about a third of the way total, maybe a little less.
Damn. I'm good with that though.
It's very very good.
I just finished up the postgame a week or two ago and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
End of Act 2 about 90 hrs in.

I did most of the post game challenges, but not all of them.
I grind in these games ALOT. I'm usually way overleveled for everything.
My heart literally broke.
It never ends. It's like 3 amazing games in one and I love it so much. I'm going to cry when u have nothing left to accomplish.
Made it to act 3?
Yup!
It really is!
My kids cried hard when I finished it.
I'm still playing the demo. I figured it would end at the door of departure but nope, I'm still trucking along.
The crafting in this game is really fun.
I don't know if I want to go down that path again on Switch...
The demo goes beyond the door of departure? That’s a long demo!
Ha, very true...
