Hannity is shitty and awful, but what he's saying isn't illegal at all. It's actually not substantially different from saying "don't talk to the cops, they'll just try to pin something on you," which, in certain circumstances, wouldn't be terribly inaccurate.

I mean, the difference is that he's only saying this because the FBI is going after people on his team, but there's no credible way to spin this as illegal.

I think it's more significant because he's not denying crimes happened! He's not denying that people know crimes happened!

I also wonder if the legal calculus changes if he becomes an indicted co-conspirator.

If Hannity is involved in this investigation to any degree, which isn't unlikely (the dude became Trump's unofficial advisor a while ago), Mueller's going to flip him like a pancake within 2 minutes.

I’m pretty sure a private citizen like Sean can tell people to not talk to cops all day long.

Pac Man's character is difficult to explain even to the Japanese -- he is an innocent character. He hasn't been educated to discern between good and evil. He acts more like a small child than a grown-up person. Think of him as a child learning in the course of his daily activities. If someone tells him guns are evil, he would be the type to rush out and eat guns. But he would most probably eat any gun, even the pistols of policemen who need them.

    “Muellergate”

Definitive proof that we have failed as a species

I take issue with the -gate suffix as a matter of pedantic annoyance, but using it with Mueller is, just

What’s the scandal? Is it that he exists? Maybe that he is catching so many criminals?

The original Watergate scandal, the one that apparently made us all collectively drop about 65 IQ points and use half the hotel name to dumb future scandal names down (because otherwise nobody would know what the hell anyone was talking about when they reference wrongdoing, I guess), was about breaking into a political opponents’ headquarters, which unraveled all kinds of other Nixon nastiness like bugging, wiretapping, etc.

Clearly an investigator uncovering crimes, prosecuting criminals, and getting justice for the American people are similarly salacious and heinous

It’s the kind of thing that drives me insane because it’s not just stupid, it’s maliciously stupid

Yeah, but if anything was going to come outta that I assume Sean would have got swept up in it already. I suspect he was a client for the same reasons as the others; for paying off a mistress, but ultimately it's none of our business. Sean is a sad little bully's lackey no doubt, and I hope to hell he sees repercussions for becoming the defacto Trump administration propagandist, but it doesn't seem like he has much of anything to do with Mueller's investigation. Though my god that tan is fucking awful, I swear someone screwed with that image.

Though that Sean is out there saying "hey criminals stop talking" is kind of a bad like PR thing for the Trump admin.

The whole "gate" suffix was designed for this purpose. It was coined by William Safire, a conservative columnist at the New York Times, who basically kept trying to make "gate" happen. He used it from "Vietgate" (pardon of Vietnam draft dodgers in the 1970s) through to "Whitewatergate" (Clinton "scandal" from the 1990s).

No, our forum doesn’t reach millions of people. No, none of us (that I know of..) are potentially about to be involved (if not indicted) in Mueller’s investigation. There are plenty of ways to nitpick how this isn’t a perfect 1:1 situation.

But at a base level, “don’t talk to the cops” might as well be our tag line here. For that alone this Hannity thing gets a big eye roll. For now.

You can’t even fucking say “the Trump Tower meeting” now without clarifying if you’re talking about the meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower in NY to discuss the Clinton dirt or the meeting with the Russians about Trump Tower Moscow to discuss the Putin penthouse.

It remains to be seen if Trump can Gish Gallop his scandals sufficiently to “Three Stooges” up the doorway to justice, but he has definitely succeeded in jamming up the doorway to linguistic ease.

At least “the Mueller investigation” benefits from the fact that Mueller has a tighter mandate than “all the crimes ever,” even though that mandate is just “Russian interference in the election, but also any crimes you happen to find along the way.”

Perhaps so, but that’s not a level of nuance I expect from said contractually obligated re-linking.

You might mean it. Maybe many do. Almost nobody (that I can recall) does much more than that. “Don’t talk to the police, link video, collect agrees”

And that might well be an important distinction I had overlooked, one that hopefully some of the regulars who do so will keep in mind the next time the topic comes up.

But without some local law folk weighing in, I think calling it a crime is a bit far.

I mean, I really, really dislike the -gate suffix on every political scandal but as Captain Inertia said...

This is almost literally exactly Watergate. It started with the person who went on to become the President of the United States openly calling for Foreign agents to steal incriminating documents on public television, and now it's coming to light that foreign agents did exactly that!

And then the President either fires or talks about firing all the people who would investigate him for this act!
