Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
[Armada|PBP] Game 1: Denouements (Audience Opinions Wanted)
Well, okay, we're not going for anything quite that big ... Plus they haven't released the Executor ... yet ...
I'm looking to referee a play-by-post game of SW: Armada. I'm looking for up to 4 players, though I'll run for 2 if we don't get enough interest. Each player should build a 200-point fleet, following normal fleet construction rules - one flagship, one commander, no more than 67 points of fighters, no more than one of a uniquely-named card for each side - except that, for our first trip out, we won't be using an objective. That'll probably change if this is popular enough for subsequent rounds.
Normally, there is a lot of flexibility involved in Armada's movement, which would make it difficult to run a non-real-time game / PBP. To adjust for that, players will instead give general maneuvering directions, and indicate whether or not they're cool with running into things; I'll then move the ships to match the desired movement as closely as possible. As an example, a movement command for a ship might be, "Turn to port as hard as possible, but don't run into my Corvette," or for a fighter, "Move up-to speed 3 towards Cruiser A, but stop if I reach engagement range with an enemy fighter." Teams will decide amongst themselves what their activation order is.
I mean, you'll probably have time [before we get started in earnest], and the fleet size per-player is a bit smaller than the normal fleet size. It's about what they recommend you start with if you're doing a "Starter Box-Only" fleet (180 vs. 200).
Alright, alright, you've got me! I prefer Imperial but if it means getting the requisite players I'll play either side. All I have IRL is Imperial stuff.
Okay, with 2 Imperial players signed up, we'll call this "wargame" instead of a fleet action.
Y'all should start considering your fleets. Again, the building rules are 200 points, no more than 67 points of fighters, and one mandatory flagship / commander. Here's the fleet-building links from the OP:
Set-up time! Normally, we'd determine initiative and then individually place ships, but we're going to speed things up. Please PM me (or post here in spoilers; no peeking! ) how you'd like your forces arrayed for battle. Please give me the location, which direction they're pointing (as appropriate) and starting speed. Second post has the map. Our obstacles today are:
A neutral station (center): they'll service anyone's hardware, removing a damage card (face up or down) from an overlapping ship or restoring a hull point to a squadron
Debris fields (far left, far right): a ship running into a debris field takes 2 damage to the hull section of their choice; squadrons easily avoid the chunks
Asteroid fields (middle): a ship running into an asteroid field takes 1 face-up damage card directly to the face; squadrons dodge them easily, ESB-style (ignore the fate of the TIEs)
Coin flip says that Imperials have initiative.

I need to figure out how to make the positions with paint. Once I do that I'll post mine.
I don't know what the hell I'm doing, so cluster my dudes in the left third of the map, between the debris fields and neutral space station. ISD in the middle, Raider on the right, and Squadron on the left.
And here we see how the bloated bureaucracy of the Empire contributed to it's eventual downfall.
Even deploying a fairly small fleet leads to confusion.

I swear I signed these maneuver orders in triplicate.
Map updated! Round 1 command phase. All commanders please submit the orders for their ships. Remember that you need to issue 1 order per Command for your ships (3 for the ISD and the MC80, 1 for the Raider); these'll be issued to your ships in-order, so for the big boys, you're actually planning what command you'll execute on rounds 1, 2, and 3.

Yeah, but you didn't fill in the bubble completely on form 34d.15.96, and that just holds the whole process up.

@Fuselage, pick one ship to activate, and tell me what you'd like it to do. Please let me know if you'd like to spend your command dial this turn or save it as a token for later (lesser) usage.
Example commands might be:
Save my Concentrate Fire command; turn to port as hard as possible, but don't run into my ISD
Straight ahead, but end with a small turn to starboard; spend my Squadron command to send my fighters towards the enemy MC80
Damn the torpedoes, straight ahead, and spend my Navigate command to increase my speed!
Spend my Repair command to get my 2 starboard shields back, then spend my Navigate token to slow down, then turn as hard to port as possible to get my damaged side away from the enemy
Edit: note that, in future turns, you’ll get to shoot before you move , but that’s not possible right out of the gate.

I think I want my Raider to move forward and use its Navigate command to go a little faster. Basically, I want to sit the Raider between those asteroids and be ready for it to swing toward the enemy fighters.
The RDR Insubordinant charges ahead, its oversized engines glowing brightly as power is redirected!
RDR Insubordinant reveals a Navigate command, which it uses to increase its speed to 3 (0-1-1).
It uses the Navigate command to turn the third knuckle one additional click, and lines itself up to move through the asteroids.
No further moves.
