I missed out on this one because I moved out of Chicagoland in the early 80s, but I'll forever have the Empire Carpet 588-2300 jingle stuck in my head. Years later they added 800 to the beginning of the jingle. I only learned a few years ago that the guy from all those commercials was an actor and not the owner, although honestly I hadn't thought much about it until he passed away.

To this day I say "Bacon!!!" in that voice whenever we make bacon at the house.
There are several versions, but I think that's the original and the one I have in my head.
If the best you can come up with against someone who's patently ignorant is to yell back at him, "Yeah? Well there's BOOKS, and they say you're WRONG!"
Then honestly you're not coming out of this looking great either.
Keeping on trend, if you were in Chicago in the 80s you should remember commercials for Celozzi-Ettleson Chevrolet - "Where you always save more money!"
There were a ton of them. To the point that I vaguely remembered a parody commercial for pizza that ended with "Where you always get great pepperoni!" . I thought it was for a local joint, but after searching it turns out it was a regional Pizza Hut commercial. Also it wasn't a parody, they actually got Celozzi and Ettleson to do the commercial.
Tried to find this, but failed. Best I can do is a description that's almost unbelievable.
Back in the late 90's, three Michigan supreme Court justices were up for election. An attack add accused them of not convicting a single criminal while on the bench (which the supreme court doesn't do). The ad included cartoon dancing trees singing "Markman and Taylor and Young, oh my!" in the tune of "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" It was followed by an even more bizarre apology in which the guy who funded it donned a tree costume and apologized for not understanding basic civics, made several tree and wood puns ("I feel like a block head!") and sang, "Markman and Taylor and Young, OK!"
It's the single political ad from more than six months ago I can remember in any real detail, and I have tried several times to find it on the internet somewhere, to no avail.

I literally remember this from a 2-week vacation in Florida I took when I was about 9 (I'm from the UK)... there was also a version with a male announcer too, I think. So that's truly memorable!
I came here to talk about Terry Tate, office linebacker, but I have been thoroughly beaten to the punch. "If you kill the joe, you make some mo'" is a common reprise in my office.
It's telling how I can recognize a lot of these merely by their thumbnail.
Here's my contribution. I can't believe I'm the first to post these. Not strictly commercials, but bumpers for ABC's Saturday Morning Cartoon lineup from the eighties.
Anyone my age who watched saturday morning cartoons should know exactly what I'm about to post:

Wasnt he also a sidekick in some Yakisoba commercials ?
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen

I'm not old enough to have actually seen that in a movie theater, but it's been revived a time or two, and I worked at a movie theater in the 90s so that must be where I heard it. I sing that song all the time to my kids, but I change the end line.
"Let's all go to our bedrooms!"
"Let's all go to school!"
"Let's all go to grandmas!"
This thread just reminds me how much I miss the Clio awards for commercials. They used to televise the winners in what I recall being a half hour special, and for the handful of years I remember seeing them, it was always a blast, especially the ones from places other than North America.
They still exist, and I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to dig up various winners over the years, but having that little special was a nice tidy package at the time, and it's been a good decade or two since I last saw them doing their thing.
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

A fair number of drive ins I've been to keep these going. Mansfield, Connecticut in particular has a large collection.

Not quite an ad, but this ident for Vue Cinemas always gets me super pumped to be at the movies, and makes great use of Dolby Atmos if the theatre has it:

He was the sidekick Legend in the second generation of the UFO Ramen commercials. First generation was the adventures of Yakisoban and his fight against Kettleman's evil plan to steal all the world's kettles (so people can't boil water to make instant noodles, see).
And ugh...going through YouTube to find a complete compilation is slow-going on my phone because there was a Super Famicom game, so I'm getting LPs of that. But here's five minutes of the first generation (before Segata Sanshiro came to save our noodles with the power of judo)
Yes, I love all the Ufo commercials, the new ones are good too, but Im missing a grup that had some sort of Flash Gordon vibe, where UFO rescues the space princess and then is hit by a meteor.
Anyway, the Segata ones are always good, there were a bunch, but I couldnt find a compilation.

I mean, if we're going to set a metric of 'great commercial' to be 'something that makes you really think about an idea and hold it in your brain for years and years' then this road safety commercial from the UK in the late 90s is the greatest commercial of all time. I've literally remembered every second of this from the first instant I saw it. For those who are squeemish, this commercial is utterly horrifying. It is a mind poison from which you will never escape. However, you will never consider getting in a car without wearing a seatbelt again.

This is objectively funny:
You can't give someone a pirate ship in one game, and then take it back in the next game. It's rude.

Reminds me of this Snuggle Fabric Softener parody from Mad TV
Language is a bit on the NSFW side

There's a bonus Chicago commercial cameo at the end!
I remember being weirded out when they changed it to "Real Men of Genius."

I don't say it every time I leave a room, but a good number of times when I leave a room I sing "after these messages, I'll be right back!".
Speaking of that, do movie theater commercials count for the thread?
'Cause there's this gem:
I'm not old enough to have actually seen that in a movie theater, but it's been revived a time or two, and I worked at a movie theater in the 90s so that must be where I heard it. I sing that song all the time to my kids, but I change the end line.

I've never smoked but I'll sing this jingle from time to time, switching around some words.
