Well, my really good dimir draft ended up going 1-2 overall thanks to some really bad draws.
Oh well
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
wait so how does arena actually handle infinite loop combos
like, if you had splinter twin on pestermite, you'd have to manually tap it each time, right? the game wouldn't recognise the loop and let you say "i create avogadro's number of pestermites" like you can in paper magic
are there any actual combos like that in the format?

There were Powerstone Shard combos with Kaladesh block that could go infinite, and Polyraptor combos with Forerunner of the Empire plus Indestructible.

AP times out unless the loop includes a phase change
Ok, so I took a look at my "performance" so far in draft. I actually made a second account just so I could draft more often and get back into practice. So far I am... 41-27 with 2 runs less than 3 wins, and 2 7 win runs at least since I started using the tracking tool. I had 1 7-0 run (my first draft in arena was a super lucky boros deck), and quite a few really bad runs as I learned before I started tracking.
I think I had better be super happy about this. I am I think outperforming my expectations at the moment. For reference, even with a record that good, I'm not really close to "going infinite". I have had regular stretches of just grinding quests to get back to 5000 gold to go again because I lost out.
Alternatively, you can get up and walk away from the table because you don't need to do anything. He has to stay there and play Nexus every minute or so. Eventually he'll get bored and let himself die.
You have to be there to pass priority.
Yes the deck is annoying, don't be a deuche. Concede
No you don't. Somebody literally wrote "F6" and walked off when an eggs deck was going off on camera in a major tournament.
Anyway in P10s case he had a clear wincon ("eventually hit him with firemind"), but if you don't then yes, you cannot loop indefinitely and would eventually be asked to take another action in paper. There's a slight issue with Nexus, though; since the card goes in your deck it isn't a clean loop because (technically) the card in your library is hidden information
Constructed events continue to shower me with rares/mythics. If you aren't playing them you are really missing out. It's all about the free cards. At 4+ wins you get a rare that has a 33% chance of becoming a mythic.
Even if you are terrible at the game and maintain a 40% win rate in there it is still a much much better way to lose gold than packs are.

Thinking about it, I should just run one of the precons through Bo1 and see if I get mirror matches with newbies.

Pretty sure the paid things don't have any matchmaking based on deck, only the regular queue does that.
Anyone have ideas for that jeskai mill thing I posted about last page?
did a game with my incredibly stupid gate mill deck. matched up against what looked to be an izzet player who got completely manascrewed (stuck on 2 mountains), but hung around long enough for me to scapeshift for 8 new gates with tatyova + guild summit + 2x psychic corrosions in play
draw 16 mill 64 combo, unstoppable, only requires opponent to do literally nothing for ~8 turns
Does an exile effect still work on indestructible?
-/- effects like Bloodtallow Candle's -5/-5 can also destroy indestructible creatures if the /- lowers its toughness to zero or lower.
How does this interaction work with blocking?
Like say they have a 5/5 indestructible and you block it with a pair of 2/2s and then give their creature -1/-1 until end of turn?
Does it still live because through it's toughness is reduced to zero by the -1/-1 it's still effectively a 4/4 that has taken 4 combat damage until end of turn?

It's toughness has been reduced to 4, not 0. Damage doesn't reduce toughness.
No.
Damage checks as a state thing at all points during a turn and stack.
So if something 1/1 gets +2/+2 on the stack, and you then Shock it for 2 in response, that thing dies before it gets +2/+2.
Yeah, I'd love to hear an explanation of how match making works.
I'm assuming that the events match you up randomly against other people with the same WL ratio. So if you are 0-0 you get matched against someone randomly at 0-0 in the queue. Alternatively, you have an event specific ELO that increases or decreases over time. But now that I think about it it's probably the first one.
That means that if you are silver on ladder you probably have an easy time of the events.
Okay, first time doing a magic draft .. maybe ever? Ended up with a mix of white/blue with a couple artifacts. General plan is to get some small white creatures out, make them fly, then once the opponent has used up all their anti-air bring out Lyra to finish them off. Thoughts or suggested tweaks?

Indestructible is nonintuitive thanks to the GUI of Arena. It shows you how much damage a creature has taken as reducing their toughness to X value.
This is fine in most cases, as hitting it for lethal afterwards works or reducing its toughness to make the previous damage lethal works.
But indestructible keeps shit from dying to damage and destroy effects. It could take a million damage and it would have no effect on it.

This video might be worth checking out, if you haven't:
I don't think most milling decks would run creatures that don't themselves mill. It's such a difficult and slow win condition that you basically need to focus your deck completely on mill and survival, and there's a real advantage to blanking most of the opponent's removal spells by running no creatures.

Living the dream of Entrancing Melody on a Ravenous Harpy, followed next turn by an Act of Treason on their vampire lord dude.
Later, that Harpy ate a creature they blocked, which gave me just enough damage to win.
*chef kiss*
e: ahahahahaaaa fuck you, mill deck! Was plinking away with a Beamsplitter Mage after they bounced/countered my drakes, got them down to 23, then they foolishly played a creature. Act of Treason into Sure Strike into Sure Strike into Run Amok and we are swinging for 21, and cleaned them up with a burn spell the next turn.
I think a complete list of codes and other unlocks led from tie ins and such would be good
Wait, are there more codes for free shit outside of the one mentioned in the OP?
Also, what's the best way to spend gold? I was doing 5k drafts, but didn't perform well at all. Granted, I got a bunch of cards, but I could always open packs for near the same amount. Currently I'm trying out the 500g Constructed mode. We'll see how far the Merfolk can carry me.

my rate of return on guilds of ravnica sealed was about 2.5 times the rares/mythics compared to buying packs.
probably slightly fewer wildcards, but it was fun. too bad it's such a seasonal format.
I bet if you look at all of the formats they are a much better way to lose gold than packs even if you are bad.
I was looking at draft for this. I just started last night. Opening a normal pack gets you a wild card. Do you get wild cards from drafts? Those seem like the most important resource available because they're essentially a percentage of a Chase mythic, guaranteed.
Assuming you get the wild card credit, you've got three packs for the price of five off the bat. If you're competitively drafting you'll probably actually get lower return on those since you won't be rare drafting. What's the guaranteed reward for losing a draft?

I thought so too!
He played Lingering Phantom into Traxos into Arvad into two more Historic spells, I drew the wrong half of my deck, and he took the game.

Built a Rat Colony deck to screw with matching.
It's possible no-one's running rats though.
Find//Finality is just -4/-4, there are no -1/-1 counters involved. Other than the two +1/+1 counters on one of your creatures.

I ran into a rat colony deck yesterday, but they must have gotten unlucky as only one rat was played

10 draw triggers from two Midnight Reaper's at once, following by a crackback turn where you play three wildgrowth walkers into two Seeker's Squires.

I like Draft for cards because I can pull all the rares/Mythics the AI doesn't take.
Also more commons too.
