1. You cast a creature. Mana cost is paid. If the creature has a "When cast" ability, this goes on the stack now.
2. The creature being cast may be responded to. It is considered a spell on the stack, and not a permanent on the battlefield.
3. If no responses occur, any cast abilities resolve, and the creature enters the battlefield. It is now a permanent. Any enter the battlefield abilities go on the stack.
4. In response to the enter the battlefield abilities, the creature may be targeted. However, the ability on the stack must be directly dealt with in order to stop it.

That's too bad, I need a lot of cards from those two sets.

I need a bunch of Explore creatures. They're all uncommon.
I bought a whole buttload of ixalan packs a bit ago so I could play with dimir pirates because that deck is fun as heck.
It's still not super optimal because I'm unlucky and would have needed to clean myself out of rare wildcards, but it's still pretty good and very fun to play

My limiting factor at the moment seems to be more uncommon wildcards than rare/mythic.
I have a couple of rare and three mythic wildcards, but I need so many uncommons. 7 explore creatures, 3 Wizard's Lightning, 2 Lava Coils, etc.
Correct. Once an effect is on the stack, it doesn't matter what happens to the source.
Just to want to clarify that if you have an effect like "Prey Upon" or any other "fight" abilities on the stack, you can bounce either target to stop the effect.

Also effects that "exile until this leaves the battlefield" (Conclave Tribunal) will not exile if they leave before the ability resolves. Other side effects, such as revealing your hand for Kitesail Freebooter, will still happen.

Ok, protip for you new guys out there.
If your opponent is attacking you and it seems super duper obvious that you are just gonna block it and kill it, consider the fact that he wants you to do just that and has something to fuck you up with when you do.
Case in point: my opponent blocked my 1/2 with his 5/5 then I gave all creatures -4/-4 until end of turn :rotate:
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Very often it's right to force the trick. Like, was this Finality? I'd love my opponent to spend 6 and a body on killing one guy instead of bringing back two creatures

I mean. It depends on the situation.
I have won plenty of games because I waited for my answer and just took the life. Contrastly, sometimes I just know that I don't mind losing an early game card to take out their removal.
I'm just saying that when a person is swinging into an obviously bad situation, recognize that it probably isn't a mistake but a calculated move and try to figure out why they are doing it.

I'm just pointing out that in that situation, there's absolutely no way I'm not picking the block that makes the opponent 2-for-1 themselves and lose recursion in the process.
Its like with instant speed removal. At first, you play it on your turn and get blown out. Then, you play it on the opponent's turn, but get countered. Then, you start playing it on your turn again when appropriate. Same with tricks: get blown out, play around them, force them.
I see tons of people fall into the trap of playing ultra timidly around tricks and its really easy to win if your tricks in hand let you swing freely with crap while still getting to hold them to protect bombs

Oh I generally try to avoid 2 for 1 trades.
I'm talking about the 1 for 1 trades that give them a better boardstate than yours.

I just had a frustrating moment. Opponent plays a Planeswalker lady who has a "-3 Destroy an enemy Permanent" ability and she casts it on my legendary fish dude. I cast Blink of an Eye to send her back to his hand. It does, but her ability goes off killing him. I thought it would cancel his ability out seeing as how she isn't on the board anymore. Guessing that falls into the "I'm still blocking even though I don't exist" weirdness.
Just when you think you understand the rules....
Yeah, you should have bounced your own dude.
I didn’t even think about that. Lol

There was other stuff on the board? That changes it; I thought you literally just traded up for the 5/5.
E: also a 6 for 2; you spent a body and the finality :P
Oh, no.
I had a 5/5 and a few other weenies on the board and in myhand I had shit that activated off of GY. I wanted to make that 1/2 and my other weenies die anyway to make my Lothleth giant better and my 4 mana creatures bigger.
It was a 1 for 6.

Ultimately it depends on the value of your blocker. If you just have a guy then you should call them most of the time. If your blocker is a combo piece you probably want to take the damage.
While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.

Especially because bouncing a planeswalker after they spend the counters lets your opponent replay them with a fresh batch of counters.
You always want to consider all the different types of resources (cards, board control, life, mana, counters, creatures, tempo, etc.) and how much you'll gain for what you're paying and how much your opponent will lose or gain.
And then put that comparison in the context of how you plan to win the game; some decks might value board control, some might value dealing as much damage as possible every turn, some care about your opponent having creatures, some don't, etc.

Modifying that budget mill deck from mtggoldfish, seems like this might work pretty well. Teferi demands an answer and you have a side helping of control to keep your opponent from firing off what they want to do, with plenty of card draw to get to your answers and also make psychic corrosion happen.
Also I'm probably gonna stream a competitive ravnica draft tonight so we'll see how that goes!
Cut both nature's spirals, all three arbor armaments, one pierce the sky, one invoke the divine, two forests, and a llanowar scout and run Gaea's Protector, the RW dual land and another plains.
Also Kwende is an uncommon and standard unplayable, he really isn't a "pick for my collection" card
Have a 30-spell RW quest so I used the pre-con deck. Made a board and whittled him down to 6. He gets a few big bodies up and I have to stall.
I finally pull the +2 attack on all attacking creatures spell. I pop it and go all-in with my board. Then I'm confused when my creatures don't buff up. Confused, I reread the card...
+2/+0 on all attacking creatures
Really game? Because I cast it before they became attackers they get no buff? They should rename this game Machine Learning Language Arena.
Maybe add in a toggleable smart guide to help players avoid this sort of thing. Magic Clippy appears with a, "Are you sure you want to cast that now? Your creatures won't be affected because they aren't attacking yet."

Well you want to wait to cast stuff like that until after blockers are declared anyway usually, so you can trick your opponent into making subpar blocks.

A general tip - wait until the ABSOLUTE LAST MINUTE before casting any 'Instant' spell. You get more out of them the more information you have. Like if they cast Settle the Wreckage, you'd probably not bother casting Trumpet Blast.
Yeah magic means everything it means very literally
Like Raid, which says do something if you attacked with a creature this turn.
Did your opponent decide to kill your creature as soon as you declared it as an attacker? Guess what, raid doesn't say "if a creature dealt combat damage" or "if your attacking creature survived until the end of the declare blockers phase": he may not have made it very far but he still attacked! You still trigger your raid ability.
