But like, not have it be connected to the film version of Annihilation, considering how much that deviated from the book.
It’s honestly pretty astonishing they managed to turn annihilation into a movie. A full two thirds of that trilogy feels like it’s just one character silently thinking to themselves “did they lie to me? I think they did. But maybe not? Oh well no way of knowing who cares”
A lot of what I attributed to the author's writing style (the distant tone; the weirdly emotionless descriptions of everything including her husband) I realized, after reading more of his work, were deliberate stylistic choices.
Given we've posted different ones like 4 times now, anyone who hasn't checked out the whole tweet chain of that "midnight society" thing should. The poster is still going and has been going at it for months.

King would wanna hear about the Ghost what likes to Fuck.
Yeah, I was thinking that if you were to divide horror authors into who is going to be down for some ghost fucking and those who are strictly anti-ghost fucking, King is going to land firmly on the pro side.

Like, a critical plot point in the Dark Tower series is a ghost what really wanted to fuck.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Show me a man too good to fuck a ghost and I'll show you a man who lies to himself a lot.

I generally prefer Lovecraft's shorter stories over his longer ones. The longer his stories gets, the more stuffed full of exposition they get, the more racism you have to wade through, and the more obvious it becomes what's going on and you're just waiting for the protagonist to catch up.
Except for The Unnamable. That one was such a cop-out.
