"why be goose?" doesn't strike me as the best route to de-escalation. It's cool though. I just thought it'd be nice to post up about getting this thing done on day one, given all the speculation. It wasn't easy! But it does seem manageable as a thing to do over the course of the week.
i just don’t think “you’re just being dramatic” is the most diplomatic response to someone describing their experience and disappointment with it
like, it’s pretty obvious at this point bungie thinks making everything take longer is equivalent to adding new content
and it’s pretty obvious a subset of players buy into that premise and think Y2 has been an improvement
but it’s also pretty obvious a fair amount of people aren’t pleased with new content being dropped that they can’t reach at all meaningfully without an extended grind to get there
i don’t know why people keep feeling like they need to just be completely dismissive of that opinion
Oh god, they brought back Surrounded? Did they improve it at all?
No idea! Haven't done any testing with it yet, but I'm not expecting to hold onto anything that ends up with it. I suppose it has some synergy with Threat Detector, hah. Nothing like a CQC LMG :P
Well, this is the gun I got by beating the first EDZ forge today with a couple of randos who got matchmade with me. Not the most exciting rolls! (Threat Detector and Surrounded) But it makes a nice chunka-chunka sound.
It seems like going with a mob-clearing super and Whisper of the Worm works pretty well, to ensure you have enough resources to finish off the boss. I haven't tried geomags yet but they probably do pretty well.
That thing is 616, what PL were you and your blueberries when you finished the forge?
I was at 610. No idea what the randos were the round where we succeeded, I didn't check their levels on that run. The match before we got very close (maybe 15% health left on boss?) and the blueberries I had that time were 604 and 605. I don't know if it keeps the group together from one attempt to the next, but if it does it may have been the same players.

And that's where I get my two weeks estimate from. I'm 603 after doing half of my powerful engrams. At that pace, I'll hit 606 at the end of the week. Meaning I'll need a second week's worth of powerfuls to crest 610 and have a shot at the forge.
Its not "dramatic" when I'm just using current trends of my power level growth.

I hated the inconsistent overly grindy levelling system the most in Forsaken and this seems like that, just with way less content to do after you finish in the light level mines.
This DLC rates below Curse of Osiris to me right now.
The biggest upgrades come from primes. I wouldn't sweat too much over how many weekly task drops you have remaining. And the nice thing about primes is you can get them by doing whatever you like doing most in Destiny anyway. Today I got one from EP and one from a strike.

Probably because people like to deliver that idea with hyperbole and literally "I'm drinking the tears of your suffering" memes.
I mean, I wouldn't even agree with the basic premise here. Bungie isn't doing anything like "making everything take longer is equivalent to adding new content".

sorry if it wasn’t clear but “ok bud” was meant to be entirely dismissive of the premise it’s okay to be dismissive of people’s experiences because you think they are being hyperbolic and then following that with a hyperbolic dismissal of the premise laid out
Allegedly a voice of reason.

In a couple weeks I'll be traveling for the holidays and won't have any access to my PS4. Probably the opposite problem of a lot of people, but its kind of weird that I likely won't be able to enjoy the new stuff until Jan. unless I get fairly lucky with progression drops.

More dumb questions from me. Is this roll any good? Edit: spoilered image cuz huuuge.
Outlaw doesn't seem great for a shotgun, but full auto yes please. Trying to figure out if this is worth keeping around.
What’s the rest of the roll? Barrel/mag perks are pretty crucial in determining if a shotgun is worth keeping. Full auto trigger on an aggressive frame with full choke/rifled barrel with accurized rounds would be lovely, even after the rebalance
Edit: to elaborate, you basically want to achieve the tightest spread you can with the highest range, as what determines your total kill range is how far away the pellets start to spread too far to land enough on your target.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

That definitely sounds like a thing I want said about my leisure time hobbies.
Holy shit, I finally got a new exotic! Its only been like 4 weeks since I last had a Forsaken exotic drop for me. Of course, it was legs, and came as my Gambit daily, which means 4 of my first 8 powerful engrams this week were legs. Good old RNG.

I’m finally starting to come around on the new Arcstrider tree, especially in Gambit. The staff shoryuken is real nice for taking out groups of trash mobs or stunning majors, and I can easily gambler dodge to recharge it. I’m not sure I’ve ever successfully used the whirlwind guard to block an attack, but conceptually at least I like the idea of proccing triple damage.

The conversation Ada had with herself about whether or not to let Guardians in creeped me the fuck out and I don't think that was the intention.
boy, putting a light level increase into the game but infusion costs are still fucked
bold move bungie
I'd hold off spending enhancement cores for a while, duplicate infusions only cost glimmer and the game considers your overall light level when giving you powerful upgrades, not just your equipped level

Hypothetical situation -
Black Armory launch is crap, people get cranky. But then the Forges and Raid wind up being fun three weeks in.
Jokers Wild launches, is crap because it is ostensibly only Gambit content. Gambit folks like it, others don't.
Penumbra launches, is ok, wraps up Calus, has a Raid (that you complete on the third week), but also lays some foundation for D3. Overall, it is satisfying, and people say " Black Armory should have been like this."
Overall, you spend maybe 150 hours playing Destiny in the next year to gear up for, and then play, this new content.
Was that worth your $35?

Seems like the theme of Destiny 2 in general is exploring the less glorified and often shadier parts of humanity/guardians that have arisen since the Traveler arrived. Between the Drifter, Rasputin, working for Calus, Prison of Elders, Spider, the Awoken, and now Ada-1 we are being shown that even though "we" the player try to be good, there are many things that are willing and able to corrupt us. The Black Armory isn't even subtle about it being the "black market" of the Destiny world. And by us doing what Ada wants, we are essentially rebooting the seedy arms dealers of this world. Thats not great.

I mean it's usable due to Full Auto but if you're looking for an actually good shotgun that ain't it.
Decently useable is fine criteria for me. I don’t care too much about perfect rolls. Just trying to get a sense of what’s good and what isn’t.
tl;dr for good shotguns is:
PvE: Rapid-fire (IKELOS shotgun), range/reload/mag size perks. You can make do with a full-auto precision or aggressive shotgun.
PvP: Aggressive (Dust Rock Blues, Black Armory Baligant) Same as above but instead of reload or mag size, you want more range, Slideshot, and either Rampage or Full Auto. The ideal perks are Full Choke and Accurized Rounds. You can make do with a rapid-fire or full-auto precision shotgun
Full Auto, unlike other weapon types, increases shotgun rate of fire, which is useful in both PvE and PvP. I've been using a decidedly suboptimal Parcel of Stardust which I like because going fast is fun.
Also I should mention the new shotguns in BA can have Trench Barrel which is optimal for PvE.
