Battletech: What’s the point of having system and macro reputation? Are the devs trying to encourage players to move around more? Also what’s the point of allying with pirates? I already have access to the black market so I’m not sure if there’s any reason for a pirate alliance.

I’m in love with the Hachetman. It’s true what someone said earlier in the thread, it lacks the support hard points to really be a good melee specialist, but it is very fun.

I’ve been searching high and low for a crab but haven’t gotten enough parts yet. They hardly show up for me :(

I regret not getting the 9A1, but I already had the MAL for multiple AC shenanigans

    Heh...

For me, the Mauler is my twin-heavy gauss rifle platform. The Victor-9B, however, can fit three RAC2s in a single arm. Because of that, it can hug a corner, expose only the right arm, and just dump teeny bullets at targets. Streak-4s and a pair of medium lasers for when folks get a little too close.

There's a MAL build I came across that runs 4xAC2/2xRAC2 that I may try out in the future, right now it's the 4 LB-10X build.

TTB's Mauler of Love build? Yeah, seems nasty as hell for a DPS build.

So I finished a flashpoint that was rather fun.
It was the one where House Steiner has you sneaking a convoy under the noses of House Liao. You have two choices of when you want to do it. When the patrol lance full of a lot of long ranged support is in the area, or when god knows what is.

I picked "god knows what". It turned out to be a Cicada, Hunchback, Wolverine and then, from out of the shadows, an 80T Mech with 3 PPCs. A mother fucking Awesome!

On it's first volley it nearly headcapped one of my Shadowhawks.

The Cicada went down absurdly fast, as they do. The Hunchback was the laser vomit variant which slagged most of the armor off my trusty missile boat Kintaro. The Wolverine... well it tried. But I was luckily able to amputate the Hunchbacks right shoulder.

The problem I had was they were spotting quite well for the Awesome, content to lob PPCs at me from out of my range. So I tried to finish them off quicker, while maneuvering a small hill to break LOS with the Awesome lobbing plasma death. It worked well enough. Once the Awesome got close enough, I was able to circle my Kintaro around to it's back and really start doing some damage. I think that guy is carrying a collect SRM20++?

Then some other crap showed up that wasn't too interesting except that they were really hammering my sad little Shadowhawks, both of which had critical leg damage, and one of which nearly lost it's head. It was a race against time kill them before I lost a limb, a race I won, but barely. One Shadowhawk had 5 internal structure left in it's leg!

The next mission was an immediate redeploy where my forces were supplemented by a Hatcetman, and I was defending a base. Enemies start coming from the west, but it's obvious to me that at some point they'll come from the east too. So I leave my Jagermech at the crossroad to catch any flankers trying to scale that hill.

I run down the western hill and absolutely annihilate what lies down there. The Hatchetman is severing limbs left and right. When he legs things, the Kintaro comes along to force feed it SRMS until it goes to sleep.

Then a Cicada pops up on the eastern ridge. The Jagermech cores it out with a single volley. Good thing too because an LRM carrier rolls up behind it, and that Cicada would have been a pain in the ass spotter for it. Probably would have lost the mission right then and there if the LRMs fired at my critical base structure. The Kintaro rolls up on that and takes it out before it gets off a volley. Then an enemy... Hatchetman shows up? So much for it being a top secret Steiner Project.

I mean, I gave the game a pass on the fact that I already had a Hatchetman. They can't control that. But for them to show up in the OpFor when the story is calling it a top secret design? Come on.

Anyways, I murderify everything and win a lot easier than the escort mission that preceeded it. And I got 2/5th of an Awesome for my trouble, and some pretty sweet loot on top of it, including another heat exchanger. I think I know just who that's going in to.

Man, the Charger is butt ugly in game. I'd also bitch about the HTM being a distracting change from the normal mech form/design, but it turns out they were pretty true to the original art.

Hmm decisions decisions on my career mode. The area I'm in is selling a blackjack for like 450K cbills. I could sell my spider and still have enough money left to pay my bills for through next month, but would have to take on another mission. I could put some medium lasers and an AC2 onto it, and it would be more armored than my light mechs. Is it worth it?

So one thing I discovered that helped keep me afloat, that I'm not sure was in the game at 1.0, is that you can sell mech pieces. Got any half salvaged mechs you don't care if you ever complete? Just goto the mech bay, check your storage, select the pieces, and hit the scrap button in the lower right of the UI.

Saved me while I was trying to get over the Medium Hump. Now I've got more money than I know what to do with, and i just bought the last piece of an Orion off the black market!

Funny thing I just found; if you put LRMs on an assault chassis in Mech-db's MWO builder, it gives a yellow warning indicator with a caption advising not to do it. I actually laughed out loud when I saw it.

If you're curious about my icon; it's an update of the early Lego Castle theme's "Black Falcons" faction.

Incursion on Crimson Straits. I’m playing my Mauler and we end up with the base that’s on the bay and a team with 5 assaults.

We set up around the platform at the saddle and discover the other team had done the same with a firing line on the other side.

Then, we discover they weren’t waiting for us to come over, they were waiting for their 3(!) Annihilators to get there and crest the hump.

Massive scrum beneath the platform, I go down, but take a Charger and a bunch of components with me. As the shooting stops, we have a Dire Whale, Assassin, and Vapor Eagle left vs their last mech, a Flea with stealth armor. All 3 of our mechs are chewed up, but the DWF is surprisingly intact with just red armor to the front CT.

The DWF looks like he’s going to chase squirrels, but really he’s going to hide on the island in the middle of the bay, declaring “we win anyway in 5 minutes and I need to eat”. Of course, this is forgetting that the game is won on base damage.

Assassin gets caught out by the Flea and taken down.

Vapor Eagle is really chewed up, open everywhere with red structure, but knows what’s required to win: putting at least some damage on their base. So he hops from top of building to top of building in that city past the tunnel to try to get close enough, but the Flea spots him and puts his CT into red structure.

VGL falls, tries to juke the Flea and turns around in the right moment to kill it with AC shots that had to be reflex.

One long ranged shot into one of their structures nets us the win a few seconds later.

Total rework of the mechanics. Stealth now generates 1.5 heat/sec while active, but weapons heat now dissipates while stealthed, too. It just made Stealth a lot more usable.

I'm not a huge fan of the Blackjack. That said, I built one that was a 2LL build and it was decent. And that was before they buffed large lasers.

Just to avoid confusion, that 450K would be the price for one blackjack part, not a whole blackjack. I don't know how close you are to getting other mediums to say whether it makes economic sense, but if you're running all lights it will be an upgrade for you. The blackjack has jump jets and a good mix of ballistic and energy hardpoints to let you be pretty flexible with builds for it. It's a solid mech and was a good choice for the campaign start, though it wouldn't be in my top 4 out of the all mediums, so for me it gets replaced fairly quickly. For example, the centurion A and shadowhawk 2D are more flexible and better armored and other ones like the hunchback and kintaro are better focused for a single role.

Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

So for Battletech Career Mode, I'm curious where people are?

I'm a little less than 500 days in, did 2 Flashpoints, and just got my 2nd Heavy. Working on my 3rd array of mech bays, and am running pretty smooth when it comes to cash. Not sure what the hump up to Assaults is going to be like, but I think my Heavy roster will fill out quickly as I have quite a few that are almost there. I might even finish a Thunderbolt on my current planet if I can make enough on contracts to buy the last 2 parts without blowing out my cash reserves. Never been much of a Thunderbolt fan though.

Feels like at this pace, I should have ample time to romp around the galaxy with more assaults than I know what to do with before 1200 days are up.

I have 250 or so days remaining and things got boring in a hurry when flashpoints stopped appearing. I asked in this thread and looked around but I can't find any place that tells you how many there are and how to trigger them.
Right now I'm just hopping around gaining rep with factions and collecting stuff.
I have a full mech bay and 12 million c-bills and a fully upgraded ship with 4 of 8 maxed out mechwarriors.

MWO: Quick question I wasn't able to google if anyone could help.

What happens to the items currently on my mech if import and save a new loadout from the web? Are they sold or do they go into my inventory?

Also, if I import a loadout does it try to use items already in my inventory?

    I would download a car.
