i started to realise that some of my favourite moments in film really, really played with tension and dread, and that there was probably a whole lot of good film i was missing out on because i really refused to even engage with it
i basically spent the first 20 something years of my life terrified by the mere concept of horror, and as a child i had to walk out of a goddam eddie murphy haunted house film
Dread is a better indicator of horror than a cat jumping out of a closet every fifteen minutes. There Will Be Blood was an excellent horror movie, imo.
Anyone with any interest in horror films should watch Jacob's Ladder, because it's just a great movie that happens to have some of the most viscerally upsetting and emotionally disturbing scenes I've seen in any movie, horror or otherwise, and it's also really beautiful
There's also the fact that it's directly responsible for some of the best scares from the first four Silent Hill games
dang, you can definitely tell which region of Britain that writers like the most
Huh, England spells "acre" weird.
I'd love to work out how they positioned Dandytown -vs- Beanotown -vs- Whizztown. (I briefly thought that Dandytown had to be in Newcastle because of The Jocks and the Geordies but it turns out that's set in a nearby village called Crosspatch. It looks like Dandytown is Perth and Beanotown is Dundee, which probably makes sense.
"100 Aker wood" comes from map illustrations in the original 1926 version of Winnie the Pooh.

How is anyone supposed to be remotely sympathetic to Amber
They both have tragic backstories that explain their behavior that day, so she doesn't have that over Sal
And whereas Sal was able to realize what she was doing before anyone got actually hurt and give up (while also being forgiven by the guy she came closest to hurting), Amber snapped and stabbed her after she was already restrained and in custody
It's fuckin dumb as hell to try and present both of them as equally "broken" or whatever the hell Willis is doing

They're both broken, but not equally, and not by each other.
Amber is severely broken at the 'court-mandated therapy sessions' level thanks to her dad and some serious mental issues.
Sal is broken by repeated experiences with a busted justice system that's convinced her that she'll never be believed when she tries to do what she's 'supposed' to, and guilt over a friends life-altering injury.

Also, it's neat that they worked out where The Black Island is.
And of course Danebury, which is just down the road from where I grew up.
I would rather compare it to a population density map: https://medium.com/@briskat/england-wales-population-density-heat-map-26a28a2b6091
Comparing the two it seems that like, old wessex / dorset, wiltshire, hampshire stand out

I love the optics and character design in this, but feel the plot is moving a little fast.
