    I love spookybot

But then again I love everything about QC in the last few years
I would not mind spookybot but spookybot is such like a clear, clear reference that it's hard to take the character seriously.

It'd be like if someone riffing on darth vader just suddenly popped up. Like sure I like Darth Vader but it'd be kind of hard to take a character explicitly riffing on darth vader seriously.

But in general yeah JJ's writing mostly just seems to gradually improve over time.

What are they a reference to?
They are a reference to 'The Endless' of the graphic novel series Sandman, and specifically with their aesthetic and personality they are very much just Desire from said series.

They may both look a bit similar, but Desire is the most purely evil character in that series and spookybot has shown themselves to have a strong sense of ethics and actual personality.
I wouldn't call Desire evil, personally. The most antagonistic character in the series? Sure. But evil? nah. That's like calling a hurricane evil. I consider lots of other characters, Morpheus included, to actually be on morally shakier ground than Desire.

I thought of posting last night: depicting and/or describing Desire as evil is, in one sense, a weirdly/wonderfully Buddhist take.

I've never understood liking something ironically. Either like it or don't, no need to try and play it off.

Ever since I was introduced to the concept, I've understood it to mean "stuff that you enjoy but that you wouldn't go to bat for". Like me and the Commissars in Warhammer 40 000. Or just... 40K in general. Stuff that you appreciate from an emotional distance.

The other case I've felt enjoying something ironically is "this thing I used to like has become so bad that it's entertaining watching how bad it's become and while I openly recognize the new stuff is trash, I can mentally allow myself to enjoy the trainwreck so I can justify still liking the early stuff."

Poster child for this is Bleach.

Good thought. I also think the seven have some wiggle room to depart from what they represent. Desire is evil not because it must be but because this incarnation of it is. See Destruction and how the current one opted out there and how Dream isn't the same as Dream.

i remember when i first started coming here and QC was only posted ironically. not sure if people were only faking it being ironic or his writing improved. though i think a turning point began once people realized JJ actually seemed like a good dude.

You can only post something ironically for so long before it starts being something you sincerely enjoy

I wish we could have stopped you from posting Day by Day before you crossed that line.

I would say its similar to how alcohol kills brain cells in large enough amounts, and that sometimes you dive into the rancid stuff and crawl your way out the other side

There's no such thing as ironic enjoyment. Any reason that something is enjoyable to a person is legitimate.

I think a lot of times '"liking ironically" gets used to mean "guilty pleasure"

Guilty pleasure but you want people to think you're cool.

    I'm confused.
    Is this a quadruple japing?

Probability its one of her dorm sisters wandering the street alone. No wait, probably going to find all of them freshly kidnapped and sitting outside a slaver base, confused......that would have been a good fallout 3 quest
