If you're taking camps on cd you're not lining them up optimally with objectives. Taking them on cd means the enemy team just clears them instantly and you get no value from the camp. You're supposed to wait, line it up with the obj, then cap and have it going off during the obj.

But that won't matter anymore. Mercs granting +100% exp and the removal of exp from Forts and decreased exp from Towers means that lining up mercs with obj is meaningless. You will simply get more exp for capping on CD because they just grant SO goddamn much exp. Won't even matter if the camp gets no value or if the enemy team clears it. Who cares? You just got 100% extra exp.
It's horseshit. Removes all strategic thought from when to cap mercs and makes it something you mindlessly do on cd.

You can also just take a camp whenever as long as you actually push with it. People are allergic to any lane friendly mercs are in and it's infuriating. They're a force multiplier!
i really really wish blizz would stop dropping major system-wide changes right before the fucking holiday break
no one's in the office. they can't make any changes until everyone comes back. and even then they can't do anything right away cause they were out of the office so they need to sort through all the data first
the last time this happened (laning changes) the game was actually unplayable for me until they came back and fixed it. and they never nail this shit on the first try.

Uncontested mercs can do work, but there is definitely a predisposition by players to leave mercs to die on their own. There are several cases where you're better off helping to protect the mercs and pushing with them. Especially siege camps, which don't have the HP to tank waves/structures but can shit out a ton of damage if those are cleared and tanked for them. Dragon Shire in particular has an incredibly powerful merc lane in bot, and people are way too happy to just let those mercs get easily cleared instead of pushing with them.

If they changed the timing, I don't think much would change, to be honest. They need a lot of data in order to assess these kinds of changes, and the holiday break before the start of a new HGC season is probably the best time to do that, from a scheduling perspective. This gives them a chance to make one or two more passes before they have to keep things relatively stable for the rest of the year.
As long as there aren't any major bugs, they might as well just let people play and see what comes out.
I mean, bugs are what I'm mostly worried about! There are a lot of big changes here!
Wasn't part of the problem last year that they messed up HL placements for everyone or something and couldn't fix it till they got back? I may be misremembering.

Elite Mercenary Camps are Unstoppable & Unbribable
A much-needed nerf to Bribe.
The unit radius values for most Heroes has been reduced by 5-15%
If this is a change to unit hitboxes, it's a huge gameplay change that is being given a one-line reference in the patch notes. People will have to re-learn small things like body blocking and positioning based on terrain all over again. It's unclear to me what the impacts will be on things like whether you can expect to body block someone from getting back to their wall. It may make body blocking easier or harder depending upon the relative changes.
Chromie: Dragon’s Breath’s warning splat will now display after the ability has been cast.
This is a small-but-meaningful buff, assuming it means that you won't see the Dragon's Breath circle until Chromie completes the cast animation, as opposed to right when she starts the cast. A lot of players/heroes who could normally mosey on out will no longer have the reaction or mobility to do so in some situations.
