“Using a combination of their leftist politics and love of FromSoftware’s mind-blowing 2015 game Bloodborne – namely a boss called The One Reborn, a mass of skeletons and corpses that’s the result of a failed experiment in ascending mankind to a level on par with godlike beings – the trio, comprised of guitarist Trevor Van Hook, bassist Zachary Sanders (also credited with the leads and as producer) and drum programmer Marie McAuliffe, all of whom share vocal duties, address labour struggles, imperialism and anti-vaxxers on their debut EP, which boasts a scathing combination of death metal and goregrind.”
Damn, there are some killer fucking lyrics on that EP.

The Great Old Ones have put out another single from the upcoming album. Real interesting change of pace this one, still keeping their epic creepy vibes, but slowing it down real hard into a naaaaasty groove.
Solid is fair; I wouldn’t call phrenelith a 10/10 but buying their solid little 2 track release to slot into a playlist with other decent short albums like the above definitely worked for me wanting some no-frills DM to bump in the car today.

Novembers Doom have a new one coming out. Fittingly, it's being released November 1st. Cover art:
I'm always happy to pick up a new album by them. Kinda sad I won't be able to make it to Chicago this time to catch any album release show they might do this time. I saw the last two and they were great.

Yeah, that little 2-track EP is pretty good, I liked those tunes more than the full-length.
I have friends in Sedimentum, they're pretty stoked about the reaction to the demo ! They're almost all playing a new instrument on this demo, like the drummer usually plays guitar, the bassist is a drummer, etc.

Nice, never know your true niche if you don't at least try other shit, Stevie Ray Vaughn started on drums.
Course you also have ridiculous polymaths like Prince and Weird Al that can/could play at a world class level on anything that can make a discernible pitch.

So I’m about halfway through Fear Inoculum.
I’m happy to report that it gets better than the single. It’s more of a subdued album, which is why I think the single was a bit surprising; all of the songs are fairly long and pretty low-key.
It’s also got a few short vignette tracks that serve the flow well.
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

I mean, this is exactly my style so I'm biased but also ... I listen to any band I can find that sounds like this and this jumped right the fuck out at me

"Dude, our video budget is pretty thin this time."
"I've got it, we'll do some fake flames while we play our instruments and shake the camera every so often."

The album is solid though. Half of their releases I could do without, but for some straight up power metal this new Elvenking did not disappoint.

Agreed. I normally just keep a couple cuts off Heathenreel, Winter Wake, and Red Silent Tides in my normal listening rotation, but Reader of the Runes is probably my favorite album of their's this decade.

I picked up a bunch of stuff but I’m still digesting
I’m enjoying Undeath, kind of straight up DM, bit of fast-slow thing going on. I like the cover art:

Sedimentum - dirty, rolling, ugly death

Gotta listen to the rest some more
Phrenelith is solid but I'm not blown away by all their stuff as others seem to be.
Lots of cool new stuff this week, new Imperium Dekadenz and Entombed A.D. in particular!

It is Tool. It is a culmination of their work. Refined but largely unchanged. It is an album for fans.

Prog shows as well. I picked up a complete drum tab book for Train of Thought when I saw Dream Theater in 2004.

Nah. Some of the members have been in other bands, but all very underground and not the same ones.
How underground are we talking?
Do they know they've laid down Turkish Blood Orgy, yet?
