See, that there is a fierce track.
The album I didn’t like was Aesthetica, but I don’t recall why. I’ll have to give it another listen.
Edit: Listening to Renihilation. Unititled 2 and 3 seem to fit, but 4 is real annoying real quick. Rest of the album is pretty good.
Descendant X on

The next Blind Guardian album is all orchestral + Hansi's voice, I guess?
Yep, it's an orchestral project they've been working for for quiet some time.
Frankly I miss the metal.
Orden Ogan's "Gunmen" has really grown on me since it came out, if you'd like the spooky but generally a little less talented substitute.
Love their instrumentation, never have developed a taste for their vocals and lyrics. Although I do feature Gunman, Come With Me To The Other Side, and Ravenhead in my more co-worker friendly playlists.

They're super into choruses. It's a definite flaw. There are a lot of 6-minute could be 4-minute tunes in their catalog!

I can dig infinite choruses (I love me some Blind Guardian A Night at the Opera and Iron Maiden), it's the fact that they're typically so languidly paced that they just meander and for all he's improved since the 90's, Seeb is no Hansi or Bruce.

So it looks like Nile have released their first song sans Dallas. It's definitely classic Nile, but with a slightly different production sound it seems, a tad cleaner.
In Mourning has a new single out. It still sounds like In Mourning but at the same time it feels like they're discovering themselves a bit more. I used to feel like they were just an Opeth tribute band back in their Monolith/Weight of Oceans days (which were albums I still liked). Maybe I should go back and listen again to those albums and see if my opinion has changed.
Boom, a whole bunch of stuff drops this week. New Baest, Blood Red Throne, Crypt Sermon, Endseeker, and RAM among others. Chelsea Wolfe, although from what I've listened through of her album it's a return to the folk stuff and kinda boring compared to the last two albums.
So Hope Drone put out a new album a few weeks ago. I'm really liking it so far. It's like a mix of Isis and Wolves in the Throne Room. Maybe they're not doing anything super mindblowingly new or genre pushing but it's pushing all the right buttons for me right now.

Oh a new Baest. Between that and the new Visceral Disgorge the "smash your fucking face into the pavement" death metal genre is covered.
How Mariusz Lewandowski’s Epic, Emotive Paintings Made Him Metal’s Most In-Demand Artist
“There is no surprise or mystery as to why we were drawn to [Lewandowski’s] work,” writes Dylan Desmond, of funeral doom greats Bell Witch, over email. “It’s dark, beautiful, and invokes uneasy questions in the mind.” Bell Witch’s Mirror Reaper, released in 2017, was the first album cover credited to Lewandowski, who refers to it as his “debut”; the art bears the specter of founding member Adrian Guerra, who died suddenly at 36 a little over a year prior. The album is as crushingly heavy in theme as it is in sound, which wasn’t lost on Lewandowski. “When I learned about Adrian’s departure and turned on their music, tears came to my eyes,” he writes. “[Bell Witch’s] music made an amazing impression on me. I’ve never heard such metal before. And when they offered me to paint a painting for their next album, I couldn’t refuse.”
Eliran Kantor's artwork is always pretty boss as well.

Mirror Reaper and Cairn have some of my favourite album artwork ever. Glad to see the artist is getting his due.

They have plenty of dumb filler in between tracks and some goofy stuff but some of their straight ahead stuff is super organic and frenetic:

It's dark, heavy and weird. Almost overbearing but in a really interesting way. Worth listening to at least once:

Looking forward to both!
The best albums of the whole new lot I mentioned above are easily Crypt Sermon and RAM.

That Bat for Lashes is her best stuff since the second album in my opinion. Very cool record. I'm only now getting to the Kanga EP.
The new Haunter album is very good, one of my favorite releases on I, Voidhanger in some time.
