If anyone's into old Dan Swanö stuff, sounds like he's going to be taking down his bandcamp page soon.
Honestly, from what I've listened, not much of it is for me. Might pick up the Unicorn album since I kinda like that old happy prog rock project of his and I think he re-recorded the vocals on it.
I disagree strongly! Yeah High Command is cool they play around here pretty often, because well, they're form here. One of the 'house bands' at Ralph's where all the good shows go. Let's see if they go on to huge things.
Another busy week of metal...new Cult of Luna, new Blut Aus Nord (which is incredible), new Ereb Altor, new Monolord, new Coffins.

Vinyl pickup for the day!
Garry: I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time I'd rather not spend the rest of the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!

In line waiting for the venue to open for Ghost in Seattle. It has been years since I have been to a concert.
Another good new record, the latest from Finland's Urn. Black/thrash metal with a great production and lots of dynamic songwriting. Absolutely worth a listen if you're into Destroyer 666.
Tis a grand day for metalings oh threshy brethren! Lord Mantis have put out a single from their upcoming album. Nasty, doomy, sludginess. The mix seems a tad cleaner this time, but with better dynamics and song structure. Really looking forward to the rest of this now.
New Leprous out too. I'm really looking forward to this album, even though they've dropped a lot of their heavier aspects, there's still a uniquely 'Leprous' feel around their new stuff.
Metal adjacent, if you care at all about or have fond memories of Danzig era Misfits I highly recommend catching the MSG show if you can. I saw them last weekend and it was a REALLY good time. The entire audience basically singing every word and woah-oh-aoh. Danzig was in fine form and Jerry Only threw his first bass directly into the crowd, and over the course of the evening smashing 4 more, it was pretty great. It was also the first time I'd seen The Damned lived and they were one of my bucket list bands. They still put on a mean show, playing everything you want to hear.
Another band which has been around for awhile significantly steps up their game and produces one of the best death metal albums of the year so far. Spain's Graveyard, not to be confused with the Swedish hard rockers (who I also like a lot).

Silvertomb, whose members include Kenny Hickey and Johnny Silver from Type O Negative, put out their first song a year ago on youtube. They got signed and have a full album coming out in November and put this single out: https://youtu.be/i5T3upjMI9I
Not sure if Kenny's voice works for me over an acoustic guitar, but it sounds all right once the song gets going. It is definitely a departure from their previous band, Seventh Void. Doesn't do much for me, unfortunately.
If you enjoy the new Crypt Sermon, or comparable bands, then you should definitely check out the new Capilla Ardiente album from Chile. Sick traditional doom broz, riffs for days.
In other news, the new Blut Aus Nord is fantastic.
It's one of my favorites this year, truly hypnotic.
Should I be on someform of the title before listening to it?
Also, the new Sonata Arctica is rough. It may indeed be the power metal equivalent of St. Anger. An album of okay to decent songs so destroyed by shitty production that it seems destined to be burned in effigy. At least there isn't the Lars trash can snare.
I'm curious how the songs play live, since I'm seeing them on Tuesday.

I don't know but they managed it. Drums and vocals are buried/put in the back of the sound stage and while I don't find the guitar and keyboards as overdriven as some, the whole thing is amazingly both way off dynamically but still very flat overall.
Whatever happened in the mixing booth it should never happen to a vocally driven band.
I don't know who they think they're kidding, but Pitchfork reviewed A Blaze in the Northern Sky today. It got a 9.2.
In other news, the new Blut Aus Nord is fantastic. Also enjoying the new Agenda for some classic crust punk intensity.
Is it not worthy of that score?
Oh it is, though the review seems to be more interested in the "legacy" of Darkthrone than the music on that particular album. I meant I don't know who P4K think they're kidding by positioning themselves as an authority on metal at all, they review like 5 metal records a year and always with a medium score unless it's Deafheaven.

Ah that makes sense
Tho Darkthrone are kinda perfect for that crowd - it’s an old enough album that they can write about it positively because it’s been accepted into the canon with all of the controversy filed off

Listening to the new Exhumed and Borknagar in full tonight!
Also, it won't be the popular opinion but I think the new Exhorder is better than their old albums.

Am v excited by Exhumed
It's decent, it hearkens back to their grind roots, so a lot of shorter songs, etc. But it's fun.

This song's pretty fucking killer though, album's out next week.

how do you let that happen
Never hurts, but not necessary! I'd say it's probably their most accessible album overall, or at least as accessible as Memoria Vetusta II & III.

That's one of the better mixed songs on it.
