There is a good mix of everything, but Jeskai is certainly less common Dimir. I think because of the matchmaking algorithm you are a lot more likely to face Dimir on game 1 than on game 7. Mostly I see RDW, mono-white, izzet, and golgari. But there is a little bit of everything played.

I mean I've played 7 or 8 Golgari runs and I don't hate it, I just think I have bad luck with what I run into when I queue as Golgari.

I definitely see mono-U and turbofog a reasonable amount when playing constructed event.

Also, it's really silly to say you can't run all-in decks ("bullshit", in your evocative parlance) in bo1. They're actually generally better there! Turbofog was amazingly strong in Arena pre-rotation because it was an all-in deck thats weaknesses could never be exploited mainboard by creature decks, which were >50% of the meta on RB aggro and midrange alone. Aetherflux Storm was likewise an all in strategy that did far better in Bo1. Sideboarding hurts those decks a lot, though pre-rotation turbofog was also just dominant enough to be good even after creature decks sided in hate for it

Like, the reason Turbofog isn't big in Bo1 right now is because it's a bad deck compared to pre-rotation and pure RDW naturally runs more face damage than pre-rotation RB aggro, along with having far more reach via Experimental Frenzy, while mono-U can tempo out critical fogs or even nexii maindeck. In a meta that actually favored turbofog it'd be brutal in Bo1

Reading pro game decklists is super interesting because their sideboards look nothing like what you'd want to run in MTGA. Every Golgari list is sideboarding 1-2 Deathgorge Scavengers because that card crushes in the mirror, but I play like maybe 1 Golgari mirror every 7 or 8 games in MTGA and it'd be absolutely incorrect to spend sideboard slots on.

  • 3clipse3clipse I will build a labyrinth to house the cheese Registered User regular
It's for both! But you've inadvertently hit on another fun point, which is that most pro-game Izzet lists are Phoenix Drakes and a lot of the Izzet Drakes lists I've run into in MTGA have ditched the Phoenixes completely.

Oh yeah, another more bullshit all-in deck is the Drake list that runs tons of bad cyclers like crash through along with maximize velocity in order to attempt massive alpha strikes. Vulnerable in Bo3 where heavily siding in removal and holding it when the opponent is at 5+ mana, great in Bo1

So here's a sponsored streamer code, if anyone's still lacking.

    Woot, I finally got one!

Also, to earlier discussions: My golgari deck runs neither reaper nor nullhide. I dunno, it works fairly well but I'm trying to decide what to tweak next. It's a reliable 5-6 win in Bo1.

In your defense, Golgari typically doesn't run Nullhide because it runs a lot of non-Creature stuff.

Would someone please give me some pointers on this "fun jank" pirates tribal deck in U/R? I emphasize the fun because beating someone with Lightning-Rig Crew is super satisfying and I emphasize jank because in Arena ladder I get paired with starter decks, unfinished decks, some mill, a lot of merfolk, etc. I want this to be an aggressive deck that doesn't fizzle out mid-game so I added some draw and the Treasure Maps (Treasure!!) with a sprinkle of Tezzeret (totally a pirate).
Just some thoughts of my own:
    • Storm the Vault seems like a cool card, but I don't think it fits this deck (Vance's Blasting Cannons maybe?).
    • Kitesail Corsair is useful sometimes, but most of the time it sucks.
    • Hornswaggle vs Admiral's Order (I am attacking a bunch so makes sense to switch?)
    • I'd like to stay out of black colors and I guess keep the pirate theme (Yes, it limits the card selection. Pirates!)
    • Prying Blade as an equipment is probably not the best.

It's really cool I think, but I wanna be top seadog of the jank!

You have a mix of aggressive creatures and defensive creatures in there. Do you want to be the pirate beatdown, or do you want to be more controlling? UR would be better as a more beatdowny deck.

Aggression: Remove the defensive creatures, Sailor of Means, and Lightning-Rig Crew. You can probably lose Storm the Vault and Hornswoggle. Build the more aggressive creatures up to 4 ofs, and add Shocks, as a start?

All we know about Ravnica Allegiances so far:
    • It has the 5 guilds we haven't seen yet.
    • Shocklands are in the set.
    • Dovin Baan (UW), Domri Rade (GR), and Kaya (BW) are in the set, almost certainly as the Bolas aligned PW guild heads. This would color balance the pro and anti Bolas guilds at Golgari, Izzet, Azorius, Gruul, and Izzet for Bolas, and Boros, Dimir, Selesnya, Simic, and Rakdos against.

I think that Bad versus Evil is a lot more interesting than "oh yeah, Bolas has all the factions in his colors and every black-affiliated guild wants to jump on the evil train." Let's see some Dimir "knowledge is ours, not yours" and Rakdos "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" against Bolas's schemes.

Rakdos makes perfect sense because they are all about that debauchary and chaos and anarchy and just fuckin whatever makes em happy. Bolas isn't really about that.

Dimir makes a lot less sense.

But Azorious makes total sense because of course the cop guild is a bunch of fascists. I just find it hilarious because that's the traditional "good guy" color combo.

I think what all of this says is that the matchmaking is pretty weird. I know, small sample size and everything, but it seems a bit too different between individuals. If half the field is RDW, then it should be around some for everyone, not just totally absent for some players.
