I wish the online part was so bad, the feedback from y'all and elsewhere and the micro-transactions have put me off it completely
It's rather a shame, it's absolutely just as much of an idiot trashfest as GTAV online but with no spectacle, like GTA is inherently something of an idiot trashfest so really the online compliments it, with this one they've implemented an idiot trashfest in into a sad somber medium sim cowboy game
I had heard about Chapter 5 and was actually looking forward to it but then
I realized it wasn't the whole camp on a Caribbean island just just Dutch and his most damned souls, I thought there'd be all sorts of unique animals and plants and so forth and a whole new biome to ride around in
But nope! Just some lame dumb pointless horseshit for no one to possibly enjoy. Also I am straight up legit sick of Dutch, like shut the flying fuck up you terrible hollow nothing man. Like I get it but he may suck too much, like what did Hosea ever see in this grey crumbly dog turd
I feel like I'm the only guy who enjoyed Chapter 5. I enjoyed Chapter 5, it was a neat change of pace and didn't overstay its welcome.
It also served as an extremely powerful indicator of how capable Sadie has become. Dutch is expecting everything to have gone to hell, and god damn, Sadie has got shit covered, boys.
I just banged them all out as fast as I could once I realized there was nothing worthwhile to do there.
They really should have cut that section out.
It's the biggest weak point of the game, imo

This game has rekindled my desire to move out west, away from Seattle. Two towns near the Olympic mountains that have stores I could transfer to while keeping my pay rate. I moved to this city in 2009, and it doesn't really hold any charm for me anymore. I'm also older, obviously, and getting tired of paying near $1700 a month for a one bedroom apartment when I could have a house where I can sit out and view the mountains with my morning coffee.

If you get your online account adjusted for the recent economy changes, make sure you keep track of it. I received $623 tonight, then a few disconnects later it was gone.
edit: completely forgot I upgraded an abilities card for $350. Whoooops.

I know I spent hours in RDR1. . . but I legit was stunned to find out Bill is the same Bill and John is the same John. Reading the synopsis for the first game apparently I only actually completed like 1/4 or less of that game.
. . . which is unsurprising as I'm still in Chapter 2 after playing all week.
Got to rank 30 this morning! I can finally buy express ammo!
How are you building XP so fast?
Couple things I use. One is just doing pvp big battles. Every match is worth like 150 to 300 based on performance and that ignores kill exp and any challenges you accomplish.
I also hunt bandit dens/ambushes for the 150 completion there, plus again kill exp. I use a bow while doing that for the 100 bow head shots challenge you can reset (and they increased gold for resetting challenges, used to be .05 nuggets, now its .2 nuggets so a fifth of a bar). I use any dynamite I gather from killing bandits to dynamite fish for the other resetable challenge of killing two animals with dynamite twenty times.
I also collect herbs to sell to the doctor, and occasionally buy things from the store for again two more repeatable challenges. And when its late at night I do open world quests which got an exp and money increase with the patch.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Without some strong inventive to not just shoot everyone all the time, Red Dead Online is basically nonfunctional as far as I'm concerned
Yeah, it's p bad. I was able to hang out for several hours without being shot at at all last night though. I think one person tried, but I happened to be in my camp with the white flag up.
Races are the most enjoyable thing right now for me, and the every single one of the deathmatch with objective things are terrible because nobody plays the objective.
And that's even without the + from having the elite edition, so that was all base leveling.
Big things early on I'd say is get a varmint rifle and bow (thanks to reduced costs both are more obtainable now) and hunt small game along your bandit hunting so you can make some coin at the various towns along with your bandit shooting. And again there are challenges with regards to killing animals, skinning, and selling.
Basically look at the challenges, find ones that are repeatable (usually the ones that are multiples of ten, aside from the dynamite one) and then find ones you can do.

Man the varmint rifle needs a nerf in pvp yesterday, its way too accurate and head shots with it should not kill you at like super long range. It should actually just be removed from being selected in pvp play lists.

I got to 28 and unlocked the pamphlet for crafting split point ammo. It's $385 at the fence. Purchasing express ammo at a store unlocks at 31, for $0.20 more per box. For the price of unlocking split point crafting, you could buy over 14 THOUSAND express rifle rounds if you wait for 3 more levels.
Just why?

It took me what felt like 17 years but I finally managed to hunt my first legendary. Luckily I saved after I put him on my horse cause I took it to the trapper and promptly got attacked by a bear

Nah, I don't get all the hate for Chapter 5 either, especially in regard to the storyline
It's honestly the pivotal point of the whole breakdown of Dutch as the father figure, you have Bill and Javier who are fully ingratiated into the cultism of it while Arthur finally realizes not even that Dutch is a liar- it's that Dutch has always been a liar, but now he's a liar who has also gone nuts
And yeah, to cap that off with coming back to find out that, that's right, the gang honestly can get along okay without you is where Dutch finally flips the "all those who oppose me must die" switch.
Without the major tone/location setting of Chapter 5 I think both Dutch's forced realization that his con game on his own followers has come to an end and Arthur's final lap into focusing on redemption and saving whoever from the gang he can would have been even more of a slog. It was a good way to get the Dark Night of the Soul scene out of a bunch of people who already had "irredeemable criminal monsters" as their baseline.
I took a little break and came back to it and now I'm in chapter 6.
I forgot how gorgeous this game is. Riding up in the Rockies around Wapiti and it's just like... damn.
Also, I just really enjoy the progression of Arthur's character.
He's sick and tired and the gilt wore off a while back. It's kind of even changed how I play the game. I have a tendency to play the goody two shoes characters in general but I guess I'm kind of tired of all the killing? I just want to ride in peace and help people out along the way to whatever terrible end awaits. I don't think I've ever encountered a game that did that to me?

Yeah the cost of the recipes even with reduction (and these are reduced from what they were if you can believe that!) is exorbitant. Especially since split ammo doesn't count for like the survival challenge, and sitting in camp splitting my bullets sounds like the most mind numbing of busy work.
Got to 34 today just doing some open world missions on an empty server (lucked into it ran with it) and hunting. I need at some point to get one of the multi class horses because my race horse is so obnoxious to load up and its stamina drain ramps up to crazy town.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
So, in the single player game, I was ambushed by some Lemoyne Raiders and killed. When I respawned, my lovely fully bonded white Arabian was replaced by a generic ass brown Tennessee Walker. Last save was 10% ago. Then I trotted 15 yards and we were both killed by a cougar.
Also pro tip never bring a bear skin back. NEVER! They are not worth it versus how annoying it is to kill bears, and unlike say a cougar you can't bring the corpse back. Like a black bear pelt is only worth around 4 dollars perfect and it takes up the corpse spot on your horse. Grizzly is better at like 8 dollars but jesus killing a grizzly in online ain't no joke let alone perfect kill.

Yeah, I lost a very nice horse that way. I was killed trying to catch a bounty, then my horse was gone. replaced by a generic brown Tennessee Walker.
