I have a few of the low honour things running on my other monitor, and it looks like a low honour Arthur has a lot more dialogue where he talks about needing money to go "on vacation" to help him recover from his TB. That makes the option to go for the money in the end a lot more understandable, on a high honour run it's totally out of character, on low honour he's been talking about it for a while.
I'm actually really impressed that they gently curve the game to make sense if you're playing as a dickhead.
The main thing I wonder about is how/if they modify the setup to helping Eagle Flies and Rains Fall. There is no reason for Arthur to get involved if he's a selfish prick.
I know, it’s reductive. I wish we had gotten more. I wanted to see more of the good that their relationship had. It just seemed like she took advantage of him to do favors for her sometimes.
To be fair I may have missed some dialogue because
I accidentally left the theater early. My kiddo pushed the circle button mid-date as I had put the controller down to watch the show and my last manual save was hours earlier, so I never saw Arthur make a move.
It took me three hours to grind the double-down blackjack gambling challenge. Double down on twelve? Every single time get delt a face card. Double down and get twenty or blackjack? Dealer gets blackjack so either I'd lose or get pushed. I lost to a dealer blackjack on dual twenties.
the game correctly assumes that you aren't going to see all of these scenes. I didn't see any! In the context of seeing one of these (or perhaps just the mandatory cutscene where he slaps Bill), it comes across as "Micah is a shitty bully sometimes, when he can get away with it". In the context of watching them all cued up on Youtube it becomes "Micah is trying to get himself shot".
I think
that it comes down to the nature of the gang not simply as an outlaw gang, but as this surrogate family with Dutch as the patriarch.
Any other gang? Micah probably gets shot. In the O’Driscolls? He probably gets shot the next time a job goes wrong and it’s gets chalked up to the heat of the gunfight.
But in the Van Der Linde gang? Micah’s family. And sure, maybe sometimes ya might lay your brother out if he steps too far
But you kill him and Mrs. Grimshaw probably puts a spray of buckshot in your chest.
gimme a red dead one remake where there’s an alternate ending where John doesn’t die and it’s just a ranching simulator for the rest of the post game.
DLC where blackwater hosts a fair and you gotta get your best damn sheep down in time for the judging.
Additional DLC where Jack became a writer and did the real biography of Calloway and what a hack he was. Heavily sourced from Belle.
Quest where he’s almost got that done but doesn’t know what he’s gonna write about next so you gotta figure out where the hell you left Arthur’s old Journal and he takes that and dedicates a novel about it to “my Uncle, Arthur”
Additional DLC where you finally goddamn find out what the hell is up with Emerald Ranch
It felt like she was giving Arthur a chance right up until the moment his name showed up in the papers due to the St. Denis bank heist.
So note ahead, his wound up spiraling in the spoiler into a whole thematic thing:
I’m thinking this as well. There’s a reason that she doesn’t return the ring until that letter.
Like the thing it’s them is they both have mostly given up on the dream of a life together, but every time they meet up there’s still that little ember of hope there. That “if we could just change this or that, then we’d have a life.”
But Arthur’s still unable and unwilling to leave. It’s not till Guarma where he finally really realizes things are falling apart, and it’s not till the issue with John that he realizes the gang is broken.
And the other thing is... he loves Mary. Genuinely does. But, at least if you’re playing a high honor Arthur, Arthur Morgan is not a man who loves himself. Multiple times, people will tell him they think he’s a good man and he’ll tell them they just don’t know him, or right out that he’s a bad man. If you continue the Downes storyline, he’ll write in his journal that he’s not looking for any kind of forgiveness or salvation, he knows where his road is heading and he just wants to pay them back as much of what he owes them for destroying their lives that he can. And so for Arthur... I think he wants to be with Mary... that maybe there’s something he sees in a life with her that’ll lead to him being better... but I think he still has that self-loathing that pushes her away for her sake, to not get caught up in the hell he brings in his wake as a member of Dutch’s gang.
And then it’s not until
Dutch leaves him for dead with an army man trying to shove a knife into his sternum that he realizes none of it can be fixed and the only thing left is to get folk out.
The many miles we walked
The many things we learned
The building of a shrine
Only just to burn
That’s the way it is
That’s the way it is
May the wind be at your back
Good fortune touch your hand
May the cards lay out a straight
All from your command
That’s the way it is
That’s the way it is
Shine light into darkness
Shine light into darkness
So in the end, if you’re going high honor... Arthur knows he’s dying. And he’s not a man searching for his own salvation. You get that with Micah over and over again, that Micah is a “Survivor” and he’s fairly clear he’ll do whatever it takes to do so.
And there’s even a bit I think early on where Kieran where they’re heading to the camp to find Colm, and they talk about how the O’Driscolls are also just “trying to survive” and John points how shallow and empty that all is, compared to the “Freedom” that Dutch is preaching. And like... I think the deal isn’t what Dutch is preaching so much as what they think he’s doing for them, that he’s trying to give them this better life even though it’s all just a lot of glitz and delusion about the nature of the way the gang works within the world, or at least does now. You remember that Arthur talks about how the gang changed, in a way like they’re waking up to it finally. That used to be they did used to help, like actually help people... and then that turned into just propaganda to reaffirm the gang’s morality over the “civilized world” even though they’d long sense abandoned it for... well, mere survival.
So they’re clearly trying to build this idea that just your own personal survival, no matter the costs, is ultimately this destructive, selfish thing, and with Arthur, I think what they’re building towards is this idea of helping others, even through complete self-sacrifice, is where virtue really is.
That’s why, in the end, as Arthur is coughing his lungs out, John’s gotten away to meet up with his family, Sadie and Tilly to get the hell out out the area, as Charles is off to help the Wapiti escape... all while Micah and him beat the shit out of each other... he just lays it out: “I won.”
And in the end, if you go up to Arthur’s plot, with a high honor play through (not sure if it’s inscribed there if you’re a bastard), his grave marker reads “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.”
So with Arthur and Mary... he knows he life he has, and what that life really does to folk, within and without, and he doesn’t want that anywhere near her. And that means he doesn’t want her near him, because he’s chained hard to it.

Gimme an Uncharted: Lost Legacy length inbetweenquel called "The Edifying Adventures of Misters Josiah Trelawny and Nigel West Dickens".
When I was trying to do the dry run challenge that starts way up in Van Horn, I picked up
a poster promising a reward for the return of a missing girl from the area. Is there supposed to be new content released periodically, or is this a side story I just kind of stumbled into? Don't remember seeing anyone mention it so far, and I'd assume it was just set dressing, but it let me read it and store it like the bounty posters. Anyone else come across it?
So uhh preacher tip for RDR online, if you buy ammo at camp you can uhhh buy all the ammo? Like I lost 40 bucks on 999 arrows this morning. I mean plus side I'll be a better archer I guess?
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

There's another one for the same girl in Saint Denis. Never came across the quest, though.
Part of me wonders if it is an Easter Egg style quest, where you'd actually have to come across and recognize her.
I finally cracked and just read the rest of the story
I don't know if I'm gonna go back to this, while I'm still like just starting chapter 3
I really like the tone, I think the characters are really well-done, I love exploring the world
but it's just so ungodly slow and heavy that I never want to play it, when I could be playing Hitman 2, or Pokemon, or Obra Dinn, or Vampyr, or Astro Bot, or Moss, or Smash Bros, all of which I equally enjoy with the added benefit of not feeling like homework
and the rub is I actually really like that it's slow and heavy, but it comes with the added side effect of it feels like a chore

A newspaper clipping mentions her, as well as a few npcs. The fence in Van Horn has some things that possibly belong to her.
There's a theory that the rancher's daughter at Emerald Ranch is her.
No one has been able to find her yet, though. Its either an unfinished sidequest or she's hidden extremely well.
I'm also a bad person in the online. Because the game doesn't have "mercy kill" as an option or at my rank I don't have it, so to preserve pelts on wounded animals I uhh have to let them bleed out. I'm sorry fake woodland creatures I need the money.

I was gonna make a glib remark about shooting them better, but it just occurred to me that online obviously wouldn't have either deadeye or aim assist. That'll be a big check in the 'con' column for me

Has both actually! Deadeye just doesn't slow down everything, but you can still paint. Aim assist is only disabled in some of the matchmaking gametypes like racing.
Well you can paint if you choose the card for that, but compared to the other option of boosting posse damage or giving yourself some health regain, painting targets is super useful.

I did some shit in the very bottom area of the swamp zone south of Saint Denis and I genuinely feel terrible, that wasn't a game, why was that a game, why did I do that, who am I

I have no idea why when I pick a location to set up camp in online, it gets set up on the complete opposite end of where I picked, but it's getting tiresome.

I never set my camp. I just ride around the world and I'm mildly bemused where it winds up.

Apparently it may be because someone else is camped in that spot and rather than giving me some sort of notification, my camp just gets slapped down wherever there's a free spot.

Honestly the "greet" options are pretty harsh for a lot of the gang. He's still really pissy with John, Micah, Bill etc.
Also I caught a fucking massive three star alligator gar, is there any use of it in crafting or it for selling and eating only?

It's definitely in some crafting, both at Pearson and the Trapper.
