One of Nintendo's biggest franchises is now loosely connected to a game series featuring weaponized stands of Satan, Lucifer and a giant green penis monster on a chariot.
Think about that for a moment.
Nintendo's been there for a long time though. The devil was in a game made by Miyamoto for the NES, and was subsequently an assist trophy in Brawl and later Smashes.

One thing I will say is that I sometimes struggles to execute my specials, especially my up-special which obviously led to lots of deaths.
I played on a single joycon with the default control scheme all night because that’s what was available so maybe there’s some way I’m holding it wrong.
So apparently only spirits that explicitly say can upgrade at lv 99 get the upgrade.
Got rayman to 99 and nothing happened.
Yeah I had to go into my own enhance menu and click on it to upgrade, it tells you it will reset to lvl 1 but gain new skills.
I nabbed a Metroid spirit and upgraded it now it’s level 1 but has lifesteal.
Oh, really? Hmmm....
Some spirits have legit good stats, might be worth upgrading one or two.
Then again, not sure how much longer the light world is, to worry about this so much. Was surprised the cave search will take 6.5 hours... that's prob cuz I put all low levels in there prob.

There are several areas like that, with different durations. Cave is 6 hours, ruins is 2, and you find a Jungle later that's 10 hours

Am I crazy, or is it really weird that these real-time waiting games and multiple different types of currency that are gacha trappings (without even having microtransactions like an actual gacha) are in Smash?
For somebody with no built in muscle memory with a GameCube controller, does it have any advantages over using the Pro? I’m really into this game, which is great but also a little surprising because I wasn’t a huge fan of the series before Ultimate. I played everything except the WiiU version, but not for very long.
I want to make sure I’m not missing out on something by using the Pro controller, even though I love it. Might be my favorite console controller of all time. Definitely top 3, but if the “best” setup is the GC, I’d like to switch over ASAP
It is very hard for me to say, my perception is super biased by having years of muscle memory on the 'cube controller making it feel better even if the pro controller would be just as good for a new player with no existing bias.

I've been really struggling with how to get the controls close to I remember on cube. I think I have it sorted out for the most part but I screw up directional inputs the most. I've SD'd a bunch of times because I wasn't pressing up quite enough for the up special.

One thing I've been feeling as I go through World of Light stuff is that there's just... so much stuff going on. It's a bit overwhelming for me at the moment.
You're going and fighting all these different super creatively conditioned stages, that's super cool. And you can equip the spirits you earn, okay. Oh but they also have types, I guess, which do... something, especially when it comes to matchups? And don't forget to mix and match support spirits based on the available slots of your primary spirit. And you can level them up with snacks. But also cores? But also the cores can be used to make other spirits? And then there's dojos you can leave them in to gain different fighting styles, which... affect stats? Maybe? And then don't forget the skill tree that you unlock stuff for. Or the consumables you can use before a match.
And then my eyes slowly defocus and I just fsmash through the next stage.
the types are a rock-paper-scissors triangle of types, attack (sword) beats grab (robo claw) beats guard (shield) beats attack
also the grey icon is neutral to everything

But what does this mean.
(i assume it's just a general buff/debuff based on the matchup but ???)
whatever the spirit power does is better for you when your type beats the other one I guess, I guess more damage and knockback dealt and less recieved or something

Does anyone have a good setup for the brawler mii? This character had been frustrating to play and try to get good with. It feels so weak compared to the sword mii.

Yeah they super overdesigned the extra systems on top of World of Light, and it feels like they detract rather than add.

Oh my god yes, I have never used a GCN contriller before this and it feels so much more natural for Smash than the pro it's not even funny. I can see why bringing back Gamecube controllers for this release is a thing. The rumble is also very good, it's much... uh.. rumblier.
Well I’m sold. Is the official version my best bet? There’s usually no way in hell I’d consider a third party controller, but these have been around so long.
This was probably my favorite Spirit fight so far.
In case you didn't know, Nintendo Pocket Football Club was a really cute, lightweight football management sim on 3DS. This fight was against 11 tiny Villagers wearing yellow jerseys (because a football team consists of 11 players) on the Final Destination form of Pokemon Stadium, and the only items that spawned were footballs.
Are the challenge fighters the same CPU level as whatever you set the normal fights to? Cheesing my way through 1 minute cpu rounds and the challenge fights often seem a good deal harder.
Have a bit over half the roster unlocked now but man if ice climbers didn’t kick my ass like 3 times.
Unlocked Young Link and decided to take a break from World of Light to tackle his Classic mode. So weird to be playing that character again after 10+ years, but I'm really enjoying him so far. He seems to be right in that sweet spot between Link and Toon Link in terms of speed, weight and power. Once I unlock Toon Link, I'm really gonna have to compared the two to figure out who's my "main" Link.
I'm sure there will be a list by the end of the weekend of every single spirit, and their final stats and traits
The various rarities all seem to cap out at roughly around the same values. 2 Stars at 4-5k, 3 stars at 9-10k and 4 stars at 11-13.
Akuma is the strongest I've gotten so far and he caps out at 13k, with no slots or traits at all.
Ones I've seen so far that can be enhanced if you're looking at the spirit board.
Elincia 2 Star > 4 Star. Extra Jump, two slots.
Alm & Celica 1 Star > 3 Star. Back Shield, three slots
Lyn 3 Star > 4 Star. Haven't maxed yet
Camus 3 Star > 4 Star. Haven't maxed yet
Tsubasa Oribe 1 Star > 3 Star. Jump boost and, three slots
Chun-li 2 Star > 3 Star. Bonus damage on physical attacks, three slots
NIghtmare Orb 2 Star > 4 Star. Slows opposing FS charging, two slots.
Chao 2 Star > 3 Star. Boosts your FS charging, two slots.
Groudon 2 Star > 3 Star. Fire/Explosion resist, two slots.
Waddle Dee 1 Star > 3 Star. Battering items damage boost, three slots
Model Z 1 Star > 2 Star. Extended transformation duration, three slots
Zero (2 or 3 Star, can't remember) > 4 Star. Weapon attack and move speed up, two slots.
Kangaskhan 2 Star > Haven't maxed yet
Keldeo 2 Star > Haven't maxed yet
Diancie 2 Star > Haven't maxed yet
Boom Boom 2 Star > Haven't maxed yet
And the ones I've found so far that shut off stage damage.
Zelda (Breath of the Wild) - Poison Immunity
Dr Light - Zap Floor Immunity
Esna - Lava Floor Immunity
Chandelure - Lava Floor Immunity
Snorlax - Strong Wind Resist
Wobbuffet - Controls cannot be reversed
Roy Cambell- Controls cannot be reversed
Detective Pikachu - Fog Immunity
Dungeon Man - Earthquake Immunity
Ashley Mizuki Robins - Fog Immunity
Flash Man - Screen Flip Immunity
I went to bed and was ranked like 300k and woke up and I'm now 550k and can only play elite battle mode. I'm terrible I shouldn't have to play elite mode. I wish there was some way to drop my rank like 300k without having to just lose a bunch.
Apparently some fluke of the Switch gives you LESS input lag for wireless controllers vs wire. It’s about a frame difference, with the pro controller having a very tiny amount less va some of the third party wireless GCN controllers.
This is likely because wired controllers don’t connect DIRECTLY to the Switch but to the dock. So, now you know!

I kind of want the Dragonborn/Skyrim Man as DLC now just so there can be a cute stinger at the end of the trailer of The Ice Climbers climbing the Throat of The World.
Maybe also slaying a condor and absorbing its soul.

Maybe it will be worth trying to learn to use the Pro Controller for reasons outside of practicality and kindness to guests

I saw people saying that the gamecube controller+adapter had a bit of lag on it, but that rebooting the switch seemed to fix it.
So I'm not sure exactly what's going on but hopefully that's fixable and they can get everything working with minimal lag.
I remember feeling a guilty about liking Mii Swordfighter in Smash 4. But damn it, he's still super fun and good in Ultimate. And playing dress-up and trying different movesets is fun.
You know what's great fun? Little Mac, with Spring Man (Fist Power +), who is trained in Land Style (power up on the ground), equipped with secondary spirits Fei Long (Fist Power +), Urban Champion Fighter (Fist Power +), and some other Punch-Out guy who also gives you Fist Power +. Who needs skill? Who needs technique? My F-Smashes hit for 40% and I'm neutral-type!
(Does anyone know how to set Favorite Spirits? I know you can save specific sets, but I haven't figured out how to designate one as a "Favorite".)
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
Especially on someone like Zelda who has murderous air moves. Just being able to throw those kicks out of nowhere while on the ground...
What's this now?
I was just experimenting with the controls, trying to get a feel for the pro controller, and had come to the conclusion that the default layout was best and instead of rolling right to left from X to A (GC layout) a sort of swipe from left to right was gonna be the way to go, but it still felt quite finicky.
If there's an option to just set something to shorthop that would be aces.
e: oh, you just press both at the same time?
e2: on a similar note, there seems to be a similar shortcut for doing an up-b out of a shield. Hitting up and b together seems to do the trick, even if you have stick jump off.

Yeah, it'll say 'enhanceable at 99' or something like that
Most of the enhancements are 1 star, so they'll go from a 2 to a 3, but some are 2 stars, and legendary spirits have kind of broken stats.
Maybe ones that have special traits that boost abilities, aside from legendary spirits.
